    What:
    Marissa Clark, Genetic Counselor at Shodair Hospital, will be presenting on a variety of topics that are commonly seen in genetics clinic as it relates to educational needs and support. The focus of the presentation will primarily be on fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and fetal alcohol effects (FAE); however, less common genetic syndromes such as: neurofibromatosis, elhers-danlos syndrome, fragile X, and chromosomal microdeletion/micoduplication disorders will be covered. In addition to the etiology of the genetic syndromes, helpful educational techniques and resources will be addressed, as well as the signs and symptoms that educators should be aware of. There will be ample time for a question and answer session that can address individual cases and situations.

Indian Education for All: An Integrated Approach - Billings - Apr. 30, 2013 - 0 views

    What:
    This workshop will employ the "Many Birds Approach" from the Framework for Implementation of Indian Education for All (IEfA) to support teachers as they develop understanding of IEfA contexts and content, while addressing the skills and concepts required to implement the Montana Common Core Standards. Teachers will leave with a dozen new strategies for close analytic reading practiced in the context of some of the highly developed, and Common Core aligned, IEfA Language Arts, Social Studies and Science lessons. Strategies practiced can be taken the next day into the classroom. Demonstrations will span multiple grade levels and content areas and will be debriefed through the lens of the MCCS and the Framework's approach to integration. If you are looking for a way to jump start your implementation of the Common Core Standards and IEfA, this is the workshop of YOU.  This workshop is available free for MSUB students.

    What:
    The OPI's Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program encourages districts to attend regional trainings or to contact your local RESA to schedule staff trainings in your district. This training is appropriate for superintendents, transportation directors, principals, clerks, school counselors, parent liaisons or other personnel who provide services to homeless children and families. Staff from community agencies that provide services to homeless children and families are also invited to attend this training. Community agency staff members will learn how to advocate for their clients and how to effectively collaborate with schools. OPI Renewal Credits will be issued at the end of the training Workshop.

    What:
    Title IX: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Title IX has been in schools since 1972. It's best known for breaking down barriers in sports for women and girls. It also opens the door for girls to pursue math and science. It requires fair treatment. It protects students from bullying and sexual harassment. And it does much more. This two-day workshop examines what Title IX is and what it encompasses. From sexual harassment to bullying will be among the topics covered . . . Including athletics, academic achievement, discipline, investigation, policies, procedures, and law suits. This is an excellent opportunity for each school and district to receive training on their Title IX requirements.

    Through MRESA3, the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics is pleased to offer a two-day workshop designed to help teacher implement the new Standards for mathematical Practice. The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students. These workshops will focus on the eight mathematical practice standards for all grade levels. Students are expected to: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, Reason abstractly and quantitatively, Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, Model with mathematics, Use appropriate tools strategically, Attend to precision, Look for and make use of structure, Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Teachers that attend the workshop will leave the workshop with an understanding of all eight prac-tices and what these practices look like in the mathematics classroom. College credit is pending.

    Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that represents a range of symptoms from mild to severe and affects overall developmental status-in social communication and other relevant cognitive and motor behaviors. In 2013, a study released by the CDC found the number of children affected by ASD to be roughly 2% of the population, or 1 in 50. Communities of support for individuals with ASD are necessary in order to bring about effective treatment, education, and inclusion. This bill, sponsored by Sen. Mary Caferro would appoint two representatives of community providers, two parents or guardians of recently discharged residents from MDC, and advocates from MCDD and DRM to a committee to write a plan to close MDC that assures that services are appropriate, that the people are served, and the communities are kept safe.

    The Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Content are designed to be focused and coherent in order to improve mathematics achievement. These content standards are articulated over time as a sequence of topics and performances that are logical and move students to deeper understanding of mathematics. The standards stress conceptual understanding of key mathematical ideas and incorporate research-based learning progressions about how students mathematical knowledge, skill, and understanding develop over time. These workshops are presented as a series of four sessions. Each session will build on the previous sessions. Participants must attend all four sessions.
