Gray Jay Bicolored Ochoco Mountains Oregon - 0 views

  •
While deep in the Ochoco Mountains we ran across a nice flowing creek. I love running water and just had to stop!! Upon inspection of where we were it was obvious this spot had been used as a hunting camp. The legs of the elk and the "meat hangers" (we laughed for I am sure there is a real name for them ha) , that were nailed to the trees. The feathers laying around looked as if maybe a turkey was in the mix with the elk? Even a spot for a bathroom. Gave us this impression. Guy wondered further down the creek then I for things happen to catch my eye. So I was wondering around on my own taking shots of the ice that was found where the water was not running fast. As I was doing my thing I heard some racket that was obviously coming from the trees and from birds. As you can imagine wild creatures do not just sit still so one can snap off photographs, so off I went to get this loud birds photographs! There were at least 3 of these birds, however non of them were all that impressed with any of us there! From the information I gathered of this bird, these must of been truly wild Gray Jays!! Not yet ingrained with human presents. I first thought this was a nutcracker. We have many of those around so it seams. Same family as these Gray Jays, but so is the steller's jay, blue jay and the western scrub jay , the crows, the ravens there is a lot of species in the Corvidae family!! From the sub species of the Gray Jay and getting these photographs in the Ochoco mountains this determined these to be the Bicolored Gray Jay. One thing all these birds have in common is, they are very smart!! Smarter then humans give them credit for! Over the Cascade Mountains there is yet another sub species of the Gray Jay over there with different needs and habits. That Gray Jay does not like snow, the ones here better like snow! Like all birds of the Corvidae family, they are pretty much scavengers, however it appears all the species of the Gray Jay have different food s

Pair Of Bald Eagles mrsroadrunner A Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Oregon - 0 views

  •
This pair of Bald Eagles have been hanging around one of the lakes here for a couple weeks now. Saturday we had snow again, which is not a huge surprise. We took off in it and thought it was not a good idea to go down into the canyon so we headed in the direction of this lake. This pair of Bald Eagles we both agreed they must of came down from the Cascade Mountains for the better fishing and all around prey on what I call the flats. Not sure what others around here call this area. I call it the flats for one can actually walk it. I trekked out into the snow to capture these photographs. The one that is on the left is keeping it's eyes on me, that one seams to be the dominant Bald Eagle and the first to fly. The other followed.

American Kestrel Or Sparrow Hawk - 0 views

  •
Just a few hours ago Guy took me around the block. Oh probably ten miles or so?? It was nice to get out of the house! I do not know about other places, but here this species of falcon are not real..... they take off as soon as attention is directed at them. In other words I have tried to get some shots of the sparrow hawk and finally I did. This American Kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America. Used in falconry so they must be pretty smart! I think they are pretty little birds! Eating grasshoppers, other small birds, and rodents so they are good to have around. Oh I believe they eat the lizards we have here too. It looks like we are in for more bad weather here in central oregon but the wildlife need to eat and I was happy we seen what we did on our short drive.

Bald Eagle Fishing, Oregon - 0 views

  •
We watched the Bald Eagles fishing for a while. I understand I need a better tele lens than what I have now for such things as this. It will come. I started out from the truck on the road. Looking down into the canyon I was not sure if I wanted to climb down but found myself doing it!! Guy parked the truck basically just on the dirt road. Over to the side the best he could just so if people were around they could get by it. No where to park! Soon Guy and the dogs were coming too, the dogs found me first of course! We all made our way down into the canyon to the water. Not only were the Bald Eagles fishing, other birds were as well. Their were two adult Bald Eagles and a younger Bald Eagle. The younger one kept trying to take the older ones fish! Big fights ensued. If I did have have this stupid tree in my way!! So we moved locations so the tree would no longer be in my way, though we were in full sight of the eagles as well. So the young Bald Eagle took off out of sight. It did appear that the Bald Eagles were curious as to what we were, and why we were there! They checked us out several times. Than the ducks, and other wildlife left. All three Bald Eagles took off to the other side of the canyon and that was that. To my understanding that side of the canyon belongs to the Warm Spring Indian Reservation, though I could be wrong. The older adults perched in the same tree, while the younger one went into a tree where he could hide from our view. We seen some of his white, but he was not to secure as the older ones were about us seeing him! It was pretty obvious that this younger Bald Eagle was not comfortable around people, or what the eagle did not understand. Here are several photographs of one of the older Bald Eagles fishing.

Bald Eagle In The Marsh mrsroadrunner A Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Oregon - 0 views

  •
This Bald Eagle I caught in a marsh. I walked through the ice and brush to get these photographs. I got pretty close to him, or I think it is a male? I really hope this Bald Eagle sticks around when all the visitors start coming back, though not holding my breath. To many people and the eagles tend to leave to another spot without so many people around.

Photographer Spends Years Documenting Immense Storm Waves that Crash Against the Porthc... - 0 views

  •
For the last six years photographer Steve Garrington has spent countless hours documenting the oceanic events surrounding a single lighthouse in Porthcawl, Wales. Built in 1860, the lighthouse itself is pretty run-of-the-mill, but the events that unfold around it as stormy winds sweep in from the Bristol Channel are anything but ordinary. Because of the point's unique sloped design, crashing waves are easily launched to extraordinary heights, especially during bad weather. It's a wonder the structure is even standing after all these years. You can explore more of his photography on Flickr, specifically his waves album.

Tutorial Slow Sync Flash in Photography | Tutorial Photography - 0 views

  •
One of the functions or features that will be fun in exploration is Slow Sync Flash. certainly not only fun but will produce more exciting. Options At Low Light Photography When shooting subjects in low-light conditions or low light, generally you will have two options, namely photographed using a flash or use a slow shutter speed. 1. Flash When you use the camera on AUTO mode, it will automatically select the shutter speed relatively quickly when photographing subjects with low-light conditions (low light) by using the flash. This means that your subject will have good lighting, and if the subject is moving then the movement will 'freeze' and razor-sharp results. The problem is likely you will be the subject of the photo is too bright and the background will look very dark, given at the time of the shooting there was not enough time for the camera to take a light around him. 2. Slow Shutter Speed Another option is to turn off the flash and then photographed using a longer shutter speed to let in more ambient light into the image sensor and produces well-exposed photo. This could be an effective technique, if you are photographing landscape in which all the elements in the photograph is silent, but if the subject of your photo portrait moves the course will produce a blur, of course you do not want it right? Both options above are techniques you can do, but of course they also have drawbacks. The other option is try to consider using Slow Sync Flash
