Following are the award winning pictures of 2013 Nikon Photography Contest . This contest is running since 1969 and considered as best competition in photography around the globe. "Elegy of Autumn" is the Grand Prize winner submitted by Dina Bova for the contest. This year about 100000enteries were received from 22752 top photographers residents of 153 countries.

Winter is the best time for landscape photographers and winter photographs are always appreciated by the lovers of of landscape photography. The beauty of ice and snow fascinate the nature lovers and gleaming golden evenings and moonlit nights are just perfect to shoot. Life on the poles like Penguins remain active with a different grace and endure in this harsh environment and are perfect for winter photography. One have to be careful while shooting in winter from hypothermia for both himself and his camera. Widow Maker. A typical widow maker (slang for a limb that is just hanging, caught up within the trees), that can kill you if not paying attention to things around you.

The Social Butterfly. I was sitting in the truck minding my own, when this butterfly landed in front of me and stuck around long enough for a couple photographs. Than fluttered off.

Mare Horse. We were checking fence line and the pasture and she just had to follow us around.

One morning heading out we saw a hot air balloon in the sky. Than we seen another, and another!! Before we new it we went around the block to see them all. Of course our blocks can be rather long, and walking is not a great idea. It might take all day long! But here is one of the hot air balloons.

The Dipper is a great bird to find around unpolluted waters. I happened to catch this one along the Metolius River. When these dippers blink their eyes it looks funky with the white feathers, turns their eyes white! These dippers have a extra eye lid to allow them to see underwater. Now that would be rather cool to do! It is said they have scales that close there nose when they go underwater where they get their food at. These are funny to watch, this one just stood there and really did not mind the intrusion. Fact is I walked away before this dipper went away. This dipper new it was safe.

We have several of these herons around this part of central Oregon. I would of thought they would leave when the snow started falling, but this bird proved me wrong! It was foggy, it was cold and it was snowing Sunday! But here this bird was!

One thing about wildlife, they still have to get out in the weather and do their thing. Saturday we got snowed on. Wildlife was still doing their thing. Here are some of the mule deer photographs. Now the buck did not run, but he did not think it wise to stick around either. I am very happy that my canon camera has a nice body for this extreme weather!! My poor camera!! It gets rained on, snowed on, than we have the other extremes of high, dry temperatures here in the high desert.

I like a lot of the photography (done in black and white in locations around the world), but wasn't pleased with the presentation - all of the photos on one page, without commentary or even something other than a plain white photo, and practically no spaces between the photos, which appear in a long stack. Some of this is nice work, and deserves to be savored, not gulped down like one in a stack of potato chips, which is what the presentation is encouraging when part of the next image is always onscreen.

I did not know it was going to pour door rain on me! BUT seeing this is when my gelding loves to play...... His white is really white when he is not playing in the mud! Our mare is not as thrilled when it rains , but my gelding gets her going too. I do not make it a habit to play with my horses, they are bigger than me and accidents happen. I stand off to the side as they play. Rule is no acting up when I am standing around them. This is mostly my gelding for he is just a card when it is cool, wet and rainy.

We were up in the Malheur National Forest last Saturday and got a couple photographs. Guy had planned to go to a spot for photographs where we would hike around. This was the first trip in our dodge ram we just picked up. Our chevy suburban is no longer and we like the Ram truck, but we really loved the suburban and of course it was paid off. WOW did things not go as planned!

I got hooked on digital photography when our owner gave us his digital camera to use after he saw that we could add actual food pictures to our menus and promotional materials instead of just cliparts. The first round of pictures was really simple, real novice looking. The knob on the camera had this letters that was strange to me. Slowly but surely I learned how to use this different settings. Now my pictures look better, not great but better. Presently I have two cameras one a point and shoot type. And another slightly professional, a Sony. Our company has since changed the company camera which is in my care now. Its a Canon EOS 1000D and its great especially for closeup shots. I still do food shots for our menus and promotional materials but now I always bring my cameras around everywhere go.

We started out on our outing yesterday heading towards the Ochoco Mountains. Well, as soon as it started snowing on us, and the snow on the ground started getting deeper we decided to turn the truck around. ....

Our life's here consists of several things, hiking is a huge part of our life's. Guy calls these "walks", long walks! I admit I am not the fastest walker. To busy looking around I guess?

One thing to be assured of here in Oregon is, never know what you are going to see here! I noticed this blue butterfly fluttering around, then oh my I noticed a whole lot more! I paid attention for these photographs to just one. The site of so much blue was quite pretty. Sure the wild Lupine flowers are blue, but these were flying!! So, what is a person who is armed with their trusty camera to do? Take photographs of course!
