How to make old fashioned candy - 0 views

  •
I used this source to help me get ideas for hard candy recipes, particularly older styles of hard candy like lollipops and barley sugar candy, so that I could try making some new types of candy. The author talks not only about the recipe, but about the crucial steps that you have to take to make the candy come out the way that you want it to. I did not see anything like this on most of the other recipes that I looked at. I would highly recommend this to someone who has cooked candy before. I would recommend having practice in the art of cooking candy before attempting any of these recipes.

While I don't agree with all her cooking methods and ideas, I've used a few of her recipes lately as kick-starts for mine, and it's great for people on trying to make sweet things healthier, or perhaps less animal-product based (which is what I was looking for)

Music Theory Website: - 1 views

  •
Summarize: This is a music theory website which I used for a music composition course that I was taking. Common chord progressions was just one of the lessons from the website that I used. In this article that I used the main points were major and minor chord progressions. The purpose of this article is to show what chords most often progress from one chord to the next and the different chords that progress in a major vs. minor key. The theory website has many topics ranging from the basics: dotted rhythms to harder more complex things: cadences and neapolitan chords. They are all very nicely ordered and categorized if you have any specific things that you need to know about. Once you have selected a topic of interest a paragraph appears on the screen. There are two arrows at the bottom that allow the reader to read the page a sentence at a time along with the model that explains what you are reading. It is almost like a PowerPoint but you control the speed at which it moves. Review and access: This is a useful source, because the website explains everything in a clear and easy to understand way. There are pictures to guide your learning. When using other resources I find that they are hard to follow because of their advanced musical terms. Also, the models on other websites often go with one part of the paragraphs and not the other so it gets confusing. The information on this site is reliable, because we used it in class to learn some of the musical terms in each lesson. I would recommend anyone who wants, needs or just likes learning about music theory to use this website as a tool. Reflect: This source was super helpful for me and I accessed it many times throughout my composition course when I was confused on a certain topic, word or structure of song. This site helped me direct my learning because it is very organized and I could find the exact topic that I was looking for. You can use this source as a reference to terms or musical topics, or use it as notes

Biology study site: - 1 views

  •
Summarize: The main points of the Environmental Biology website is to show the five main nutrient cycles: nitrogen, oxygen, carbon, phosphorus and water and how energy flows through ecosystem. The topics covered include: ~the roles of an organism (such as a consumer, herbivores, etc.) ~energy flow through an ecosystem ~food chains and webs/ pyramids and biological magnification ~Humans vs. natural food chains This article goes through the basics of ecology and is very easy to understand. There are pictures of the cycles that relate to the reading. Review and access: This is a wonderful source because it includes all the different nutrient cycles as well as pictures and writing. It also brings up many concepts: bio magnification, the different roles of an organism and human vs. natural food chain. This website doesn't go in depth in a specific part of ecology, but is instead a basic and broad overview of the whole thing. Most websites either only talk about food chains or nutrient cycles, yet this website includes it all. This website is reliable, because I have compared it to other websites and classwork. I would recommend using this website when learning basic ecology or just refreshing your mind because a lot of simple concepts are mentioned. This article won't take long to read, because everything is pretty broad. Reflect: This source was helpful for me when refreshing my knowledge on the water cycle and learning about the oxygen and nitrogen cycle. I have used this site as a notes resource for the ecology unit in my biology class. This site has helped me to better understand the different cycles, the movement of energy through an ecosystem and food chains vs. food webs. ~Riley

Spanish site: - 0 views

Summarize: The main points of this website are different for each chapter. Each book chapter has many online activities to help you cement the Spanish into your brain. The purpose of this website is to practice Spanish through a series of different activities; depending on which lesson that you are on there are certain practices that you can do. There are also many topics depending on the lesson that you are working on practicing, for example in lesson 5A: birthdays and families are the two things to study. This lesson is all about teaching people how to talk about specific family members, how old they are and what things you would see/ have at a party. This website includes lots of information on speaking Spanish. If you are interested in culture that I would look elsewhere, but if you have a Realidad's book along with the book codes found in each lesson, than this is a very practical website for studying and practicing your vocabulary. Review and access: Phschool is a super useful source when studying or practicing. There is a test preparation for each lesson and I use it to see if I have understood all the vocab in each chapter. Other sources haven't been as helpful to me, because they don't follow the Realidad's lessons exactly and don't have all the concepts in our chapters. The information given is definitely reliable because it goes along with a Spanish textbook that our Spanish teacher from Spain recommends using to study. I would recommend this website to anyone who is learning Spanish, because it has helped me learn mine. In the beginning of the lesson everything is fairly easy and as you work your way through the practice the Spanish gets harder until you eventually get to the test preparation. Reflect: This source is very helpful and I continue to use it. Each practice takes between 1-10 minutes depending on how fluent you are at your Spanish. This source has helped to direct my studying and practicing so that I have less to do later on and mor
