This site, as well as the monthly magazine, is a great way for beginner musicians to learn some basic music theory. This site is also a great place to learn about new bands, and they usually pick ones that know their music theory.

Physics for Engineers and Scientists - 1 views

All of the physics problems assigned in MIT's OCW 8.0.1 Physics courseware in this book, and I use it to learn more about how the world works. Great resource for highly motivated high school student and college students.
  •
This is one of the books referenced by the MIT OpenCourseWare Physics class. It is an invaluable resource as it contains problems assigned in the course. These problems are used to ensure that we (students) are understanding the material and more importantly understanding what material we do not yet know.

Coconut and Quinoa - 0 views

I just discovered this blog recently, and I'm already in love. The blogger highlights seasonal vegetables and everything she posts seems to be filled with color and goodness. I'd suggest this to those who are looking to get out of the "norm" of vegetarian eating, because the stuff she makes tends to be not what most people are used to eating. Locavores, organic food market regulars, and foodies rejoice; this is your blog.

Wikipedia - 0 views

I saw Robin's bookmark of Wikipedia and was at first confused, but then realized how much I too rely on Wikipedia. Wikipedia browsing accounts for at least 1/3 of all of my computer usage. Literally whenever I find myself interested in a topic, Wikipedia is the first site I look at. The page "/wiki/Portal:Current_events" is even my primary news source. The summation of all of my experiences with Wikipedia is represented in these two xkcd comics. http://xkcd.com/903/ http://xkcd.com/214/

I love the crowdsourcing of Wikipedia. If an entry is erroneous, the crowd catches and improves it. Looking forward to seeing lots of contributions from PL kids who are creating knowledge daily. Be sure to post to Wikipedia - that is the strength of the tool!

Google Trends Visualizer - 0 views

  •
Google Trends is a way to search what is currently popular searches on Google's Search engine. This is a visualizer for that which means that it is an easy way to look at what is effectively a list of what the world cares most about currently. I could have written some huge philosophical thing about this link, but in reality it's a pretty screensaver.
  •
So, it sounds as if you do NOT recommend using this? I don't need a pretty screen saver in my life, for sure. But if there is anything to be learned by the wisdom of the crowds, this might be a place to learn? I really don't have any skin in this game and just wonder what you think.

Prep Matters- College Admission Requirements - 0 views

  •
This source was a treasure to find. Flipping from college website to college website in attempt to figure out all their individual requirements was a nightmare. Frustrated, I searched "college requirements" and found this gem of a website! Prep Matters is very simply a list of colleges and their testing and deadline requirements. It is organized in alphabetical order and lists the college or universities SAT scale, optional test and super scoring policies, ACT requirements, subject test requirements, whether or not the college is on Common App, and all early action/decision and regular admission deadlines. I think my favorite part of this website, however, is the ability to 'click' the college you are interested in, and it takes you directly to the college's homepage. The only downfall of this source is it does not have all colleges!
