I enjoyed this journal, its a guide that most NPO's should follow when thinking about using social media sites for there organization.

Page 2 of this very long PDF has an extremely relevant list of 10 social media habits of successful NPO's.

Simple use by New York city of QR codes on building permits to provide links to additional information. 

Wow. Just think, I didn't even know what QR codes were a few weeks ago. I really see them blooming in the next few years (Ha!Bloomberg/ Blooming!). I scanned one from a Meijers grocery coupon and got a 10 second commercial sent back to me.

Very progressive! Excellent use for that specific labeling technology --- especially in a high density population area where a construction project could be a big hassle. This would make it easy for the public passerby to find out more about it, and perhaps a target completion date. Plus, you are certain the contractor has a legal permit from the city of New York for the work they are doing.

Google helps out non profits with more than just free internet services.  They also offer grants to help with technology usage.

This is an application that google offers. It helps promote non profit organizations. The ad pops up on the right side of the screen when someone is surfing the web.

This is article talks about search optimization. The process is fought continously to maintain the lead. The black and white hat approaches are mentioned. Some of the techniques used to achieve maximum results are explained, such as the use of algorithms.

Technology investment as a strategic investment. Also, collaboration between peer organizations is something technology does best.

I was pretty impressed how people are using this for donations. If only smaller nonprofits could use technology like this. Whole world could be a better place.

Highly recommended article. The CITIZEN SUPERHEROES slideshow is hilarious. Basically, this article explains how technology makes government less bureacratic.

For what it's worth, I always find snippets like this in the news to be interesting because everyone thinks the same thing: What are they talking about? A dozen tech execs attended a private dinner hosted by President Obama in California. With Zuckerberg to his right and Jobs to his left, one can't help but wonder what was discussed. Being a poli sci major, I feel the Obama administration certainly needs the Silicon Valley tech giants to help get re-elected in 2012. Nonetheless, i guess investment in Silicon Valley is obviously worth a dinner with the President.

This article shows how governmental agencies are using technology tools to help gather the taxes that people have failed to pay in the past. This technology tool analyzes the data that has been collected about an individual and uses that to compare the different ways of going about collecting the past due taxes. Using this analyzing tool allows the government to spend less resources trying to collect the taxes and also has proven to increase the amount of past taxes that are collected.

Wireless technology platforms are changing rapidly and there is always an emerging battle between two or more delivery paths. LTE appears to have an edge in the immediate future but WiMaxx is one of the technologies that hopes to supplant it. Public safety organizations are endorsing LTE.

There is a definite correlation in mobile wireless applications for public safety and nonprofits alike

Although this article speaks mainly about protecting yourself on a network I think it applied very well with this class. It offers many good tips and points as to precautions to take to protect yourself. These precautions are important to consider especially if any work at your non-profit or public place of employment can be completed outside of work at at perhaps a local "hot-spot". This leads me to wonder how safe the new cellphone hot-spots are.

My subject of discussion on posterous this week was about Grand Rapids trying to pass a millage for the Rapid this May. Improved public transit has proven to spur economic growth in "dying" cities (or areas of cities). Better transportation means better employment, incentives to build businesses, and saving money on gas!

There is a growing volume of literature that points to the potential for small technology-based firms to achieve substantial employment growt.

Baby steps in making technology affordable changes.
