    Backtype is yet another search engine this time looking to mine "real time web based conversations". A quick check suggests that though it does quite a good job of checking through social media such as blogs and Facebook the Chatter search on the side panel misses most of the Twitter traffic. Worth a look though.

    Have you ever really listened to young people conversing and wondered if they were speaking in the same tongue you were used to? If you want to make some sense of the colloquial conversation of many of today's youth then Word Up will give you an in. This site is basically a living dictionary, drawing on user input to record. In the Resources section is a great pdf looking at the most common of these words along with a neat discussion of how communication is constantly changing. The ongoing research project is an initiative of McCrindle Research.

    Another of the really great ACMA pages, this one deals with spam in all its permutations. From the Nigerian email through to telemarketers who are acting outside the do not call register the site has advice on how to avoid, report, protect yourself and complain about spam. There is also a listing of the latest current scams. On the page you can also download SpamMATTERS which works with Outlook. Then when you delete spam from your email it will also lodge a report with ACMA automatically. Neat.

Though the learning objects are not downloadable they are eminently suited to using on an interactive whiteboard.
