Adopter distributions closely approach normality. The above figure shows the normal frequency distributions divided into five categories: innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority and laggards. Innovators are the first 2.5 percent of a group to adopt a new idea. The next 13.5 percent to adopt an innovation are labeled early adopters.

When reflecting on why every teacher isn't using their computers and Internet connections productively when schools have had computers since the early 80s and the Internet has been in schools since the early 90s, I came up with this metaphor for the various positions people assume in relation to the uptake of information and communications technologies.

Someone in my other class directed me to this video on the subject of innovation. I think it provides a great metaphor for diffusion of innovation!
