Ineffective lectures - 8 views

As a recent graduate, I can attest to the fact that lectures were not the most effective method for learning. The classes that contained active participation and in-depth discussions (typically the smaller sized classes) were the ones that provided a deeper level of understanding for the course material.
I also agree with the article that lecturing does not need to become obsolete. It does have a place in higher education, however based on this meta-analysis it is clear that lectures need to be complimented with a more participatory approach.

The learning environment is changing faster than we think - 18 views

I enjoyed this video as well! The scalability advantages through the use of technology are undeniable. I particularly liked how Donald talked about the advantages of recorded lectures. Repetition is the father of learning and unfortunately lecture-styled learning does not allow for this. I also liked how he mentioned the benefits of platforms like YouTube and Facebook for making learning more accessible and more effective. These platforms cannot be ignored due to the high volume of individuals on them and must continue to be used in the realm of education.
Thanks for posting, Marina!

The Khan Academy is so innovative because it allows students to really master a specific topic and at their own pace - something that traditional classroom settings have trouble doing. They are an amazing example of the benefits of technology in the classroom!
