Our Mission To research how online learning can be made more accessible, engaging, and effective for K-12 learners with disabilities by investigating approaches that address learner variability within the range of conditions under which online learning occurs.

In this section of the exhibit, we hope to share some of the best apps for enabling and empowering students with special learning needs. We hope to show how these can let the iPod touch serve these students in profound and unique ways, letting them to use mobile technology to not only engage, interact, and communicate with others but do it in ways they might not be able to do otherwise. Finally, good luck and please spread the word about this resource so the ideas here can be spread and helping others achieve all they can in teaching and learning.

UDL-U supports postsecondary faculty and staff by providing resources and examples to improve postsecondary education for all students, including those with disabilities. UDL-U is designed to be useful for individual inquiries related to small UDL topics, issues, or problems, as well as scalable to larger faculty development efforts (e.g., Faculty Learning Communities). "This workshop will discuss how Chittenden Central Supervisory Union(CCSU) uses an AT Assessment Plan (ATAP) based on the SETT framework to support students with multiple or severe disabilities to enable increased access to the curriculum and independence.  The ATAP and the process of implementing it will be discussed.  Several extensive case studies will be reviewed.  How those ATAPs were revised in subsequent years to continue supporting students will also be covered.  Case studies include students with visual impairments, autism, learning impairments, speech impediments and physical disabilities.  Learn how one district is making a difference for its students with severe or multiple disabilities!"

The Three Block Model of Universal Design for Learning is an effective approach to classroom management, planning, instruction, and assessment that creates a compassionate learning community from K-12. Developed by Dr. Jennifer Katz, The Three Block Model of UDL has been implemented in elementary and high schools across three provinces, and has been shown to increase student engagement, self-concept, respect for diverse others, prosocial behavior, and teacher satisfaction and self-efficacy.

"iSolveIt is a mobile digital learning environment that supports the development of logical thinking and reasoning skills, which are essential competencies of algebra and mathematics in general. The environment includes a collection of tablet-based puzzles that have been designed using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)."

"MathScaled is a prototype series of puzzles based on a balance-scale format. The goal is to place different shapes with unknown weights on the scale so that it is balanced. Puzzles have embedded supports for solving, such as a Scratch Pad for recording information and the option for immediate feedback on your progress. Learners can also choose from different levels of puzzle challenge. These puzzles were developed as part of the iSolveIt project at CAST (http://www.cast.org), an educational research & development organization that works to expand learning opportunities for all individuals through Universal Design for Learning (UDL)."
