The National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) is a partnership between NEH and the Library of Congress to create a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1690 and 1963, from all the states and U.S. territories. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at the Library of Congress (LC) and will be freely accessible via the Internet. (See the Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers website.) An accompanying national newspaper directory of bibliographic and holdings information on the website directs users to newspaper titles available in all types of formats. During the course of its partnership with NEH, LC will also digitize and contribute to the NDNP database a significant number of newspaper pages drawn from its own collections. Forty-five states and one territory have joined the NDNP so far. NEH intends to support projects in all states and U.S. territories. Awards are made to an organization within each U.S. state or territory, which typically collaborates with relevant state partners in this effort. After their initial NDNP awards, state partners are encouraged to seek second and third awards, to produce a total of approximately 300,000 pages of digitized newspapers per state. Awardees may receive support for continued work beyond the third award, but the program gives priority to applications from those states and territories that have not received NDNP funding-as well as applications from states and territories that have received fewer than three awards.

The DePaul University Humanities Center (DHC) is inviting applications for Visiting Fellows for 2017-2018. Applications are due by Friday, January 27, 2017. All applicants must have a Ph.D., and research projects must be in the humanities. International applications will be considered. Fellowships may run from September 2017 to June 2018, or from January 2018 to June 2018. During their tenure, Visiting Fellows are required to make an intellectual contribution to the DePaul community and participate in the programming and activities of the DHC and the university. We are especially interested in applications that involve a project around the theme of "Fake," broadly construed. All applications regardless of topic will be considered, but preference will be given to applicants that draw connections between their proposed project and the 2017-18 DHC theme, "Fake." NB: The DHC will be hosting events that include, e.g., investigations of identity and performance, the legality of forged artwork, magicians and charlatans, shadows and shadow selves, fiction's relation to nonfiction, etc. We are interested, that is, in interdisciplinary, creative, innovative projects that take up the topic.

The competition theme is "Blue." Shades, spaces, feelings of blue. Show us what blue means to you. Article submissions are accepted from all writers 18 years and older, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and other written explorations (up to 900 words). There is one Gold Winner cash award, one writer profile award and at least three publication awards. All work is evaluated based on the vision as relates to the submission theme. Submissions including diverse interpretations of the theme will be considered. The beauty of art is that 100 artists can look at the same thing and interpret it in completely unique ways. That's what can make it breathtaking. Share your interpretation and you might win a cash prize, be professionally reviewed, and/or be published in ArtAscent Journal of Art & Literature!

In September, Miami received notice from the government that our new F&A rates are: 44.5% for On Campus Organized Research 44.0% On Campus Sponsored Instruction 39.0% On Campus Other Sponsored Activities 26.0% Off Campus All Programs These rates are effective beginning September 1, 2014. Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

Ultimately, we are interested in interdisciplinary, creative, innovative projects that take up the theme of "Age."

The American Journalism Historians Association seeks applications for its annual Research Grant Awards. The deadline is May 15, 2013. Up to four winners will be announced at the Sept. 26-28 convention in New Orleans. The Research Grant Award is designed to provide research assistance and to recognize and reward the winners. Up to four grants per year for up to $1,250 each will be awarded upon review and recommendation of the Research Grant Committee. All current AJHA full members with a minimum of three years' membership at the time of application are eligible. The research project must be related to mass media history.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan invites all eligible organizations to submit a proposal for a cooperative agreement with the U.S. embassy to create and design a stand-alone website or dedicated channel on YouTube.com that allows individuals from within Afghanistan and across the globe to upload short (no more than three-minute long) personally recorded videos describing why and how the individual is contributing to the betterment of Afghanistan and/or the ways in which the Afghanistan of today has provided opportunities that didn't exist before, and offering messages of hope for the country's future. In addition to ensuring that others can upload videos to the site, the recipient will also be responsible for recording and uploading an initial set of videos.

The DHC Visiting Fellow program is generally a sabbatical/leave-based position as there is no large stipend associated with this position. However, apart from the mutual benefits of being engaged with our vibrant local intellectual community in the heart of Lincoln Park in Chicago, Visiting Fellows will be given an office in the Center (with computer), staff support, library privileges, and an honorarium of up to $1,000 per quarter to support the public presentation of Fellows' work (with at least one public lecture supported and expected of all Visiting Fellows) and for participation in other DHC programming.

The Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States of America in Islamabad, Pakistan, is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance awards through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). PAS Islamabad invites all eligible organizations (see Section C for Eligibility Requirements) to submit proposals for a Grant or Cooperative Agreement to support activities focused on providing media training and professional development to professionals in the media field through one of the activity areas specified in this NOFO. PAS Islamabad invites proposals for projects that focus on one of the priority areas specified below. Applicants should pay close attention to the Public Affairs Section's goals, priority program areas, target audiences, and geographic locations when developing their proposals. Goals: The goals of this funding opportunity are to: 1. Strengthen People-to-People ties between the United States and Pakistan to increase professional and personal interaction between American media experts and local trainers with Pakistani journalists. 2. Expand Media Engagement by providing training to journalists in new or traditional forms of media that also support professional standards in journalism; increasing participants' knowledge and skills in producing and reporting quality news stories, exposing them to high professional standards, and empowering them to communicate news more effectively to the Pakistani public. Priority Program Areas: This NOFO aims to support the Department of State's initiatives to promote and strengthen the field of journalism and the accuracy of reporting in Pakistan in the areas of: 1. Social media training and digital security 2. Working with police and government 3. Resilience in harsh reporting conditions 4. Covering the 2016 U.S. presidential election

The Summer Stipends Program at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) provides $6,000 for individuals to spend two consecutive months of full-time advanced research and writing that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities. Miami University is eligible to nominate two full-time faculty for the program. The Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School is the nominating official for Miami University. The two Miami nominees will be selected by the Associate Provost with input from an ad-hoc committee of humanities scholars who will review all internal submissions. This program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works. ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowships are intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects may: Address a consequential scholarly question through new research methods, new ways of representing the knowledge produced by research, or both; Create new digital research resources; Increase the scholarly utility of existing digital resources by developing new means of aggregating, navigating, searching, or analyzing those resources; Propose to analyze and reflect upon the new forms of knowledge creation and representation made possible by the digital transformation of scholarship. ACLS will award up to six Digital Innovation Fellowships in this competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of up to $60,000 towards an academic year's leave and provides for project costs of up to $25,000. ACLS does not support creative works (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects.

The Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) is an Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Heidelberg. Building on the structures established by the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context," it is open to scholars especially in the humanities and the social sciences. Founded in April 2013, the Institute assembles scholars from all over the world to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue and to enhance their understanding of transcultural processes. The institute offers an M.A. and a Doctoral Programme in Transcultural Studies. In addition to five permanent fellows (the HCTS professorships in Transcultural Studies), a group of senior and junior fellows is invited each year to join the HCTS to pursue their own research and to engage in discussions with other fellows as well as graduate students around a common theme. Fellows can choose to be in residence in Heidelberg for a period ranging from between six months to two academic years.

Founded in 1981, the Ucross Foundation in Sheridan, Wyoming, provides uninterrupted time, work space, and living accommodations to competitively selected visual artists, writers, and composers from all over the world. The foundation currently is accepting applications for its 2019 Fall Residency program, which runs from August to December. Residencies vary in length from two weeks to six weeks. At any one time, there are up to nine individuals in residence - a mix of visual artists, writers, and composers.  In most cases, studios are separate from living quarters. Lunch and dinners are prepared Monday to Friday by a professional chef with ample provisions on hand for breakfasts and weekends. In addition, there is cell phone service on the property and several wireless Internet connection sites are available for resident use. Residents are responsible for providing their own working materials and for their travel to Sheridan. While there is a $40 nonrefundable application fee, there is no charge for a residency. Artists, writers, and composers from around the United States and the world, in any stage of their professional career, are invited to apply to work on an individual or collaborative project. The United States Embassy in Brasília, Brazil, announces a notification of funding opportunity (NOFO) to support a one-week workshop in Brasilia for 25-30 journalism students with up to U$50,000 in FY2018 for a project period not to exceed one year. The preliminary start date for this activity is February 18, 2019, and one award is anticipated as a result of this NOFO. However, should both parties consider the results of this exchange to be positive - and also subject to availability of funds - we may agree to renew this NOFO of up to two additional years. This workshop should provide hands-on training to journalism students on all stages of producing news, via broadcast and digital media.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

For this open call, we want to discover ideas that grow immersive storytelling to advance the field of journalism-that inform and encourage news organizations to innovate, experiment and learn. We believe that developing lessons around this emerging area can help journalists extend and deepen their impact. We want projects that use immersive storytelling to fuel innovation and new ideas, while addressing the many open questions facing this nascent industry. We're not prescriptive in what your project should be. We welcome all kinds of ideas, from new ways to produce and apply the technology, to the workflows, roles and skills required to create better journalism and enhanced storytelling techniques, to promoting ethics, transparency and accountability. We encourage collaboration on projects that will help advance the field. Our focus is not on funding content. We are primarily looking for projects that will yield lessons and "how-tos" for the field of journalism and encourage reporters and editors to think differently.

As teachers and scholars within the discipline and within CCCC undertake increasingly complex research projects, the nature of grant applications submitted to CCCC for research funding has changed. A greater number are submitted each year. But more important, the quality of these applications has improved considerably, and the types of projects for which funding is being sought are more diverse. As an organization, CCCC is committed to supporting the diversity of applicants, projects, and research strategies included in these awards. The CCCC Emergent Researcher Awards reflect this commitment and are intended to invest in our organization's members by rewarding and supporting early-career researchers, especially faculty/instructors who have not had the opportunity to engage in funded research faculty/instructors who do not have support for research within their institutions Only researchers who have not received previous funding from CCCC for research are eligible to apply for these awards. In addition to research funding, the Emergent Researcher Awards provide mentoring support. All selected recipients (or recipient teams) will be matched with research mentors on their projects. These established scholars will have a successful record of mentoring and publication experience. Mentoring pairs will determine procedures through which they collaborate. However, the expectation is that the mentor will be available to consult with the researcher(s) at each stage of selected projects on issues ranging from design to methodology, writing to circulation.

The Headlands Center for the Arts campus comprises a cluster of artist-rehabilitated military buildings just north of the Golden Gate Bridge at historic Fort Barry in the Marin Headlands, a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The center's programs support artists in all disciplines - from visual artists to performers, musicians, writers, and videographers - and provide opportunities for independent and collaborative creative work. The center currently is inviting applications for its Artist in Residence program. Through the program, fully sponsored residencies that include a monthly stipend of $500 will be awarded to approximately fifty local, national, and international artists at the cutting edge of their fields whose work has the potential to impact the cultural landscape at large. Residencies run from four to ten weeks and include round-trip airfare, up to 2,000-square-foot studios, five chef-prepared meals per week, access to vehicles as well as basic woodshop; audio/video equipment; an artists' library with computer, scanner, and printer; and field trips to Bay Area museums, galleries, and cultural venues. There is an application fee of $25. Eligible artists may be at any stage their career and work in any media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.

Guggenheim Fellowships are grants to selected individuals made for a minimum of six months and a maximum of twelve months. Since the purpose of the Guggenheim Fellowship program is to help provide Fellows with blocks of time in which they can work with as much creative freedom as possible, grants are made freely. No special conditions attach to them, and Fellows may spend their grant funds in any manner they deem necessary to their work. The application for the 2021 United States and Canada competition is now available. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada at the time of application. The application deadline is Thursday, September 17, 2020.
