    The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

    A key factor for achieving Vision and Change for improved STEM teaching (http://www.visionandchange.org) is the practical support of instructors seeking to acquire, apply, and assess effective ways to achieve active learning when they teach. Immersion and mentoring experiences are particularly helpful to this process (Sirum et al., 2010; Murray et al., 2011; Vergara et al., 2013).  Therefore, the Mentoring Active Learning and Teaching (MALT) program will fund up to $2,000 for individual undergraduate biology educators to visit, observe, and work with mentors skilled in active learning strategies and evidence-based teaching that align with Vision and Change principles

Pre-K-8 Preservice Teacher Action Research Grants - 0 views

    The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is inviting proposals from collaborative action research projects seeking to improve classroom teachers' understanding and teaching of mathematics in pre-K-8 classrooms. Priority will be given to collaborations consisting of university, elementary/middle school teachers, and pre-service teachers from the undergraduate ranks. The research should be designed and implemented with a focus on enhancing the teaching and/or learning of math from pre-K to grade 8. A single grant of up to $3,000 will be awarded. Grant funds should be used to support expenses incurred in planning and carrying out the research. Applicants must be a current full individual or e-member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current NCTM pre-K-8 school membership. The participating pre-service teacher(s) must be in an initial licensure/certification program at the undergraduate level and at some point during the term of the grant must be engaged in some form of practicum experience or student teaching.

    The Office of English Language Programs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for proposals to advance the Bureau's objectives through support of academic exchanges that will result in the improvement of English teaching capacity around the world and the enhancement of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through exchanges of U.S. English language educators to all regions of the world. The EL Fellow and Specialist Program builds bridges of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through exchanges of U.S. English language educators. The EL Fellow and Specialist Program sends talented, highly qualified U.S. citizens in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field on approximately ten month Fellow exchanges or short-term (two-weeks or more) Specialist assignments at educational institutions in all regions of the world. Through U.S. embassy-designated projects, EL Fellows and Specialists share their expertise, build English teaching capacity abroad, hone their skills, and gain international experience. Upon returning to the United States, they share their experiences and acquired knowledge with their communities and professional colleagues. Projects are carried out with host country ministries of education, universities, teacher-training institutions, NGOs, binational centers, and other English language teaching institutions.

The annual program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences at undergraduate institutions. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. The award is based on accomplishment in scholarly research with undergraduates, as well as a compelling commitment to teaching, and provides an unrestricted research grant of $60,000.     The fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) hold much promise as sectors of the economy where we can expect to see continuous vigorous growthin the coming decades. STEM job creation is expected to outpace non-STEM job creation significantly, according to the Commerce Department, reflecting the importance of STEM knowledge to the US economy. The National Science Foundation (NSF) plays a leadership role in developing and implementing efforts to enhance and improve STEM education in the United States. Through the NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) initiative, the agency continues to make a substantial commitment to the highest caliber undergraduate STEM education through a Foundation-wide framework of investments. The IUSE: EHR is a core NSF STEM education program that seeks to promote novel, creative, and transformative approaches to generating and using new knowledge about STEM teaching and learning to improve STEM education for undergraduate students. The program is open to application from all institutions of higher education and associated organizations. NSF places high value on educating students to be leaders and innovators in emerging and rapidly changing STEM fields as well as educating a scientifically literate public.     The Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families' Family and Youth Services Bureau announces the availability of funds under the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program. The purpose of the SRAE Program is to fund projects to implement sexual risk avoidance education that teaches participants how to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity. The services are targeted to participants that reside in areas with high rates of teen births and/or are at greatest risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The goals of SRAE are to empower participants to make healthy decisions, and provide tools and resources to prevent pregnancy, STIs, and youth engagement in other risky behaviors. Successful applicants are expected to submit program plans that agree to use medically accurate information referenced to peer-reviewed publications by educational, scientific, governmental, or health organizations; implement an evidence-based approach integrating research findings with practical implementation that aligns with the needs and desired outcomes for the intended audience; and teach the benefits associated with self-regulation, success sequencing for poverty prevention, healthy relationships, goal setting, and resisting sexual coercion, dating violence, and other youth risk behaviors such as underage drinking or illicit drug use without normalizing teen sexual activity.

    The Annual Midwestern Conference of Parasitologists (AMCOP) is a regional affiliate of the American Society of Parasitologists. Our annual conference provides for a gathering of parasitologists and students of parasitology to provide informal discussion of research and teaching in parasitology and the advancement of the best interests of parasitology. This conference is open to all interested persons, regardless of place of work, residence, or affiliation in other recognized societies. The AMCOP Student Grants Program was initiated at AMCOP 63 in 2011. At that meeting the membership decided to establish a mini-grant program, run it for 3 years and then evaluate it for its effectiveness. A committee was established to lay out the ground rules of the program and the committee's members stayed on to evaluate the first two rounds of proposals.     The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel awards one doctoral scholarship in the fields of Modern Jewish History, Jewish Literature, Modern Jewish Intellectual History, or Jewish Cultural History per December 1st 2013 or by agreement. The award is specifically aimed at female applicants. Eligibility criteria: - an excellent higher university degree that qualifies for doctoral studies in Jewish Studies at the University of Basel - willingness to work at the Centre for Jewish Studies (apart from possible trips to archives etc.) - willingness to perform organisational and other tasks as part of the Centre team, possibly a teaching assignment Suggestions for a dissertation topic can be submitted along with the application but are not mandatory.     The primary objective of the EDMAP component of the NCGMP is to train the next generation of geologic mappers. To do this NCGMP provides funds for graduate and selected undergraduate students in academic research projects that involve geologic mapping as a major component. Through these cooperative agreements NCGMP hopes to expand the research and educational capacity of academic programs that teach earth science students the techniques of geologic mapping and field data analysis. Another important goal is to increase the level of communication between the Nations geologic surveys (both State Geological Surveys and the USGS) and geologic mappers in the academic community.
