The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

A key factor for achieving Vision and Change for improved STEM teaching (http://www.visionandchange.org) is the practical support of instructors seeking to acquire, apply, and assess effective ways to achieve active learning when they teach. Immersion and mentoring experiences are particularly helpful to this process (Sirum et al., 2010; Murray et al., 2011; Vergara et al., 2013).  Therefore, the Mentoring Active Learning and Teaching (MALT) program will fund up to $2,000 for individual undergraduate biology educators to visit, observe, and work with mentors skilled in active learning strategies and evidence-based teaching that align with Vision and Change principles

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is inviting proposals from collaborative action research projects seeking to improve classroom teachers' understanding and teaching of mathematics in pre-K-8 classrooms. Priority will be given to collaborations consisting of university, elementary/middle school teachers, and pre-service teachers from the undergraduate ranks. The research should be designed and implemented with a focus on enhancing the teaching and/or learning of math from pre-K to grade 8. A single grant of up to $3,000 will be awarded. Grant funds should be used to support expenses incurred in planning and carrying out the research. Applicants must be a current full individual or e-member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current NCTM pre-K-8 school membership. The participating pre-service teacher(s) must be in an initial licensure/certification program at the undergraduate level and at some point during the term of the grant must be engaged in some form of practicum experience or student teaching.

The Office of English Language Programs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for proposals to advance the Bureau's objectives through support of academic exchanges that will result in the improvement of English teaching capacity around the world and the enhancement of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through exchanges of U.S. English language educators to all regions of the world. The EL Fellow and Specialist Program builds bridges of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through exchanges of U.S. English language educators. The EL Fellow and Specialist Program sends talented, highly qualified U.S. citizens in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field on approximately ten month Fellow exchanges or short-term (two-weeks or more) Specialist assignments at educational institutions in all regions of the world. Through U.S. embassy-designated projects, EL Fellows and Specialists share their expertise, build English teaching capacity abroad, hone their skills, and gain international experience. Upon returning to the United States, they share their experiences and acquired knowledge with their communities and professional colleagues. Projects are carried out with host country ministries of education, universities, teacher-training institutions, NGOs, binational centers, and other English language teaching institutions.

The New York City-based Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation is accepting nominations from academic institutions for its Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program. The annual program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences at undergraduate institutions. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. The award is based on accomplishment in scholarly research with undergraduates, as well as a compelling commitment to teaching, and provides an unrestricted research grant of $60,000. The program is open to academic institutions in the states, districts, and territories of the United States that grant a bachelor's or master's degree in the chemical sciences, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering. Nominees must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment; be after the fourth and not after the twelfth years of their independent academic careers; and be engaged in research and teaching primarily with undergraduates.

The purpose of these two $500 awards is to recognize graduate students who use pedagogical strategies to promote science appreciation among undergraduate students. This includes the incorporation of research methodology in undergraduate teaching and the encouragement of critical and scientific thinking in examining psychological issues. This includes the integration of research methods into all topical areas and the demonstration that scientific observation is a process integral to all areas of psychology.

Malawi faces chronic shortages, skill mix imbalances, and uneven geographical distribution of professionally qualified health workers such as medical doctors, clinical officers, nurse midwives, and allied health professionals. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide technical assistance (TA) to the Government of Malawi in support of the national HIV response through the secondment of technical assistance (Technical assistants recruited and posted to requesting institutions to continue support to the HIV program (TA positions for Care and Treatment, Logistics and Supply Chain, Monitoring and Evaluation)) to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other organizations, implementation of a fellowship program to develop technical and leadership capacity for HIV program management, provision of technical assistance to regulatory bodies (Medical Council of Malawi, Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi and Pharmacy Medicines and Poisons Board), and improvement of the quality of in-service and pre-service education for critical health worker cadres in collaboration with Ministry of Health and training institutions under the University of Malawi and the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). Key outcomes of this program include the development and dissemination of technical guidelines, teaching materials, and tools for curricula strengthening. Teaching sites will be appropriately equipped and staffed. Capacity gaps in national programs will be addressed through the recruitment and deployment of technical assistants & fellows. In addition, the roles of regulatory bodies in education will be strengthened through the provision of technical assistance

Fellowships will be awarded to artists whose achievements have been recognized as demonstrating extraordinary promise in any area of artistic practice and teaching. Applicants should be early-career poets, novelists, choreographers, playwrights, designers, performers, directors, filmmakers, composers, and performance artists who would find it beneficial to spend two years teaching and working in an artistically vibrant university community.

The fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) hold much promise as sectors of the economy where we can expect to see continuous vigorous growthin the coming decades. STEM job creation is expected to outpace non-STEM job creation significantly, according to the Commerce Department, reflecting the importance of STEM knowledge to the US economy. The National Science Foundation (NSF) plays a leadership role in developing and implementing efforts to enhance and improve STEM education in the United States. Through the NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) initiative, the agency continues to make a substantial commitment to the highest caliber undergraduate STEM education through a Foundation-wide framework of investments. The IUSE: EHR is a core NSF STEM education program that seeks to promote novel, creative, and transformative approaches to generating and using new knowledge about STEM teaching and learning to improve STEM education for undergraduate students. The program is open to application from all institutions of higher education and associated organizations. NSF places high value on educating students to be leaders and innovators in emerging and rapidly changing STEM fields as well as educating a scientifically literate public. In pursuit of this goal, IUSE: EHR supports projects that seek to bring recent advances in STEM knowledge into undergraduate education, that adapt, improve, and incorporate evidence-based practices into STEM teaching and learning, and that lay the groundwork for institutional improvement in STEM education.

The Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families' Family and Youth Services Bureau announces the availability of funds under the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program. The purpose of the SRAE Program is to fund projects to implement sexual risk avoidance education that teaches participants how to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity. The services are targeted to participants that reside in areas with high rates of teen births and/or are at greatest risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The goals of SRAE are to empower participants to make healthy decisions, and provide tools and resources to prevent pregnancy, STIs, and youth engagement in other risky behaviors. Successful applicants are expected to submit program plans that agree to use medically accurate information referenced to peer-reviewed publications by educational, scientific, governmental, or health organizations; implement an evidence-based approach integrating research findings with practical implementation that aligns with the needs and desired outcomes for the intended audience; and teach the benefits associated with self-regulation, success sequencing for poverty prevention, healthy relationships, goal setting, and resisting sexual coercion, dating violence, and other youth risk behaviors such as underage drinking or illicit drug use without normalizing teen sexual activity.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to college or university students preparing to teach middle school mathematics. For 2019-20, one scholarship with a maximum value of $3,000 will be awarded to a person currently completing his/her junior year of college or university and pursuing a career goal of becoming a certified teacher of middle school mathematics.

The Annual Midwestern Conference of Parasitologists (AMCOP) is a regional affiliate of the American Society of Parasitologists. Our annual conference provides for a gathering of parasitologists and students of parasitology to provide informal discussion of research and teaching in parasitology and the advancement of the best interests of parasitology. This conference is open to all interested persons, regardless of place of work, residence, or affiliation in other recognized societies. The AMCOP Student Grants Program was initiated at AMCOP 63 in 2011. At that meeting the membership decided to establish a mini-grant program, run it for 3 years and then evaluate it for its effectiveness. A committee was established to lay out the ground rules of the program and the committee's members stayed on to evaluate the first two rounds of proposals. While AMCOP is a regional meeting, the student grants are open to those outside the geographic region typically covered by the society. The Education Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) provides national and professional leadership in developing undergraduate research in the areas of Teaching and Learning, the Learning Sciences, Teacher Education and related disciplines. One goal is to provide financial support for undergraduate students for conducting education research and disseminating their findings. To this end, the Education Division is pleased to announce its Faculty-Student Collaborative Research in Education Award. Two (2) awards of $250 each will be made available each academic year to students in education majors and education-related fields.  Dual and double majors are also eligible to apply. Undergraduates at any stage of their undergraduate programs are encouraged to apply.

The Israeli Inter-University Academic Partnership in Russian and East European Studies is offering a small number of highly competitive postdoctoral fellowships in the field of Russian and East European Studies for the 2014-2015 academic year. These fellowships are offered to researchers across all disciplines in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, broadly defined, and will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence. Postdoctoral fellowships are offered to young scholars who have received their PhD degree no earlier than 2009 and no later than June 2014. The fellows will be selected by an international academic committee and then placed in one of the partner universities: Bar-Ilan University, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa. Postdoctoral fellows will be awarded up to 87,500 NIS per year (equivalent to approximately $25,000). In some cases, the fellowships will entail a teaching commitment at the host university.

The Boston Athenæum offers short-term fellowships to support the use of Athenæum collections for research, publication, curriculum and program development, or other creative projects. Each fellowship pays a stipend for a residency of twenty days (four weeks) and includes a year's membership to the Boston Athenæum. Scholars, graduate students, independent scholars, teaching faculty, and professionals in the humanities as well as teachers and librarians in secondary public, private, and parochial schools are eligible. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or foreign nationals holding the appropriate U.S. government documents.

The Harvard South Asia Institute is pleased to offer the Aman Fellowship to support recent PhDs,  those in the final stages of their PhDs, and advanced professional degree holders in areas related to Pakistan, particularly areas of science and development. Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate prior educational history that has taken place largely in Pakistan, and plan to return to Pakistan upon completion of the fellowship. Fellows are expected to reside in the Cambridge vicinity during the time of their award and to actively participate in the events and intellectual life of the Institute. Fellows are expected to contribute to the greater Harvard community by teaching, mentoring, or advising students. Total stipend for one term: $20,000 Health insurance and round trip travel expenses to Boston will also be provided.

The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel awards one doctoral scholarship in the fields of Modern Jewish History, Jewish Literature, Modern Jewish Intellectual History, or Jewish Cultural History per December 1st 2013 or by agreement. The award is specifically aimed at female applicants. Eligibility criteria: - an excellent higher university degree that qualifies for doctoral studies in Jewish Studies at the University of Basel - willingness to work at the Centre for Jewish Studies (apart from possible trips to archives etc.) - willingness to perform organisational and other tasks as part of the Centre team, possibly a teaching assignment Suggestions for a dissertation topic can be submitted along with the application but are not mandatory. Possible topics can also be discussed with the Centre administration if the scholarship is awarded to the applicant. A possible topic could be a project within the context of the intended collaboration of the Centre of Jewish Studies with the archive of the National Library of Israel. The scholarship will be awarded for 36 months and amounts to CHF 50'000 p.a. After 18 months of the intended funding period an interim report by the Centre administration on the status of the project will decide about the continued funding for the remaining duration of the stipend.

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) offers travel awards to increase the participation of early-career undergraduate faculty, post-doctoral scientists or senior level graduate students interested in teaching careers in ASM's Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE).  The award is a $750 travel subsidy presented upon completion of travel and submission of receipts for ASMCUE travel, lodging, and/or registration expenses.  Eligibility requirements are listed for two tracks of awardees. Preference is given for applicants who have not been previously funded.  

The American Psychiatric Foundation is sponsoring the one-year Psychiatric Research Fellowship for three post-graduate psychiatry trainees specifically to focus on research and personal scholarship. The primary objective of the EDMAP component of the NCGMP is to train the next generation of geologic mappers. To do this NCGMP provides funds for graduate and selected undergraduate students in academic research projects that involve geologic mapping as a major component. Through these cooperative agreements NCGMP hopes to expand the research and educational capacity of academic programs that teach earth science students the techniques of geologic mapping and field data analysis. Another important goal is to increase the level of communication between the Nations geologic surveys (both State Geological Surveys and the USGS) and geologic mappers in the academic community.
