Purpose of Program: The purposes of the Educational Technology, Media, and Materials for Individuals with Disabilities Program \1\ are to improve results for children with disabilities by: (1) Promoting the development, demonstration, and use of technology; (2) supporting educational media activities designed to be of educational value in the classroom for students with disabilities; (3) providing support for captioning and video description that is appropriate for use in the classroom; and (4) providing accessible educational materials to students with disabilities in a timely manner. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- \1\ This program was formerly called ``Technology and Media Services for Individuals with Disabilities.'' The Department has changed the name to Educational Technology, Media, and Materials for Individuals with Disabilities Program and updated the purposes of the program to more clearly convey that the program includes accessible educational materials.     Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

    The Office of Global Educational Programs of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an open competition to administer the FY 2016 Community College Administrator Program (CCAP). Accredited U.S. colleges and universities and other U.S. public or private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to design, administer and implement one six-week intensive exchange program in the United States. The program is for foreign administrators from post-secondary vocational and technical institutions or their equivalents in selected countries. Exchange participants for the six-week program could also include government officials or others with significant responsibilities related to post-secondary technical and vocational education. The program will provide participants with skills focused on community college administration including leadership, governance, finance, student affairs and student services, program assessment, workforce development, private sector partnerships, community engagement, technology, and distance learning. The successful applicant will provide flexible programming and an ability to tailor the program to selected countries' education priorities for technical and vocational education. The successful applicant should outline specific plans to incorporate each selected country's technical and vocational priorities into each program offering so it can provide impact assessments for each country/region from which participants are selected.

    Voya Unsung Heroes handed out its first awards in 1996 as a way for Voya Financial to demonstrate its commitment to the education community. Grants are given to K-12 educators utilizing new teaching methods and techniques that improve learning. Each year, educators submit applications for a Voya Unsung Heroes grant by describing projects they have initiated or would like to pursue. Each project is judged on its: Innovative method Creativity Ability to positively influence the students Each year, 100 finalists are selected to receive a $2,000 grant, payable to both the winning teacher and his or her school. National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) Program - 0 views

    The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program is designed to encourage the development and implementation of bold, new, and potentially transformative models for STEM graduate education training. The NRT program seeks proposals that explore ways for graduate students in research-based master's and doctoral degree programs to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to pursue a range of STEM careers. The program is dedicated to effective training of STEM graduate students in high priority interdisciplinary research areas, through the use of a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with changing workforce and research needs. For FY2018, proposals are requested in any interdisciplinary research theme of national priority, with special emphasis on two high priority areas: (1) Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) and (2) Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems (INFEWS). HDR is expected to continue as a priority research area for FY2019 and FY2020 competitions, along with a new priority area to be announced in 2018. The NRT program addresses workforce development, emphasizing broad participation, and institutional capacity building needs in graduate education. Strategic collaborations with the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, national laboratories, field stations, teaching and learning centers, informal science centers, and academic partners are encouraged. NRT especially welcomes proposals that will pair well with the efforts of NSF INCLUDES to develop STEM talent from all sectors and groups in our society (https://www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/nsfincludes/index.jsp). Collaborations are encouraged between NRT proposals and existing NSF INCLUDES projects, provided the collaboration strengthens both projects.

    NCTM is accepting applications for classroom-based research in pre-college mathematics education in collaboration with college or university mathematics educators. Grants of up to $6,000 each will be awarded to mathematics educators or classroom teachers currently teaching mathematics at the grade 7-12 level. The research must be a collaborative effort involving a college or university mathematics educator (a mathematics education researcher or a teacher of mathematics learning, teaching, or curriculum) and one or more grade 7-12 classroom teachers (individuals who spend half or more of their work time teaching in the classroom). The proposal may include but is not restricted to research on curriculum development and implementation, involvement of at-risk or minority students, students' thinking about a particular mathematics concept or set of concepts, connection of mathematics to other disciplines, focused learning and teaching of mathematics with embedded use of technology (any acquisition of equipment must support the proposed plan but not be the primary focus of the grant), and/or innovative assessment or evaluation strategies.

FY2020 English Language Teacher Training Project - 0 views

    Promoting and improving English language education in Japan will increase U.S.-Japan exchange, a top priority of the Embassy of the United States. A 2012 report by the U.S.-Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON) noted that inadequate English language proficiency among Japanese young people can discourage students from applying and may decrease their chances of admission to programs abroad. The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) is working to strengthen English language education from kindergarten through university. The U.S. Embassy supports MEXT's goal of strengthening English language education by providing Japanese teachers of English with various Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) training programs to improve their English teaching, with the ultimate goal of promoting more student exchange between the United States and Japan.
