SPIE is an international society that works to advance an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light. As part of its educational outreach mission, SPIE awards grants in support of optics- and photonics-related educational outreach activities. The society offers two kinds of grants: SPIE Education Outreach grants and Sustaining grants. 1) SPIE Education Outreach grants: Recipients of these grants are required to submit an annual outreach grant report to the society on how the grant was used within ninety days of completing the funded activity. Grant applications should include activities that have not been funded by a previous award. 2) Sustaining Grants: If a program has received an Education Outreach Grant twice in a period of five years, it can only apply for further support, up to a maximum of $2,000, through a Sustaining grant. There is no limit to the number of times a program can apply for a Sustaining grant, but it will be competing with all other proposals every time it applies. To eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or education institution (e.g., university, optics center, science center, primary or secondary school, youth club, industry association, or international optical societies).

Calling all innovative educators and educational institutions: Steelcase Education seeks partners in active learning who are ready to use their physical classroom space to advance learning in new and important ways.  We have a passion for understanding how learning takes place and how smarter, active learning spaces can help. That's why we're launching a new grant program that will fund and research up to 15 Active Learning Centers each year. Each Active Learning Center grant will cover the furniture, integrated technology, design, installation and post-occupancy evaluation for one of three classroom types designed for 28 - 32 students. Eligible classrooms must be in the United States and Canada, serving grades 6 - 12 or within a college or university. Grants are valued between $35,000 and $50,000, plus all of the innovation and inspiration born of active learning. With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) operates a grant program that supports research on a wide range of issues of critical importance to U.S. higher education. To qualify for funding, proposal submissions must use data from one or more of the national datasets of NCES or NSF listed in the grant guidelines.  Additional large-scale, nationally representative datasets may be used in conjunction with the obligatory NSF or NCES dataset. Two levels of grants are supported: Research Grants: Faculty and practitioners are eligible for research grants of up to $40,000 for one year of independent research. Ruth Halvorsen Professional Development Grants: Scholarship support of projects focused on understanding, implementation, and issues specifically relating to the National Visual Arts Standards and support the improvement of the teaching of art.  Mary McMullan Grants: Projects that promote art education as an integral part of the curriculum in elementary and secondary schools, as well as higher education.  NAEA Research Grants: Major grants supporting research that advances knowledge in the field of art education and that promulgates the goals outlined in Creating a Visual Arts Research Agenda Toward the 21st Century.  SHIP Grants: Funds given to art educators whose proposals seek art equipment and/or instructional curriculum resources used to focus on student learning specifically related to the National Visual Arts Standards.  Teacher Incentive Grants: Grants are given to projects that promote the teaching of art. Teaching of art includes, but is not limited to the instructional process, curriculum, student learning, student assessment, classroom behavior, management, or discipline, or other practices relating to instructional interaction and the achievement of student learning.

The Administration on Aging (AoA) within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) forecasts the possible availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 funds to make three-year grants to approximately 10 entities to develop capacity for, bring to scale, and sustain evidence-based programs that empower older adults and adults with disabilities to better manage their chronic conditions. ACL intends to compete these 10 grants via two options (both with 36-month grant periods): (A) Sustainable Systems Grants: approximately six grants of $500,000 to $900,000 focused on developing integrated, sustainable systems for delivering evidence-based chronic disease self-management education and self-management support programs. (B) Capacity-Building Grants: approximately four grants of $50,000 to $150,000 to build capacity to introduce and deliver evidence-based chronic disease self-management education and self-management support programs within underserved areas and/or populations.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), is making up to $400,000 available in grant funds for education and training programs to help identify, avoid, and prevent unsafe working conditions in and around mines. The focus of these grants for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 will be training programs and training materials on powered haulage safety (i.e. reducing vehicle-on-vehicle collisions, increasing seat belt use, and improving belt conveyor safety), examinations of working places at metal and nonmetal mines, mine emergency prevention and preparedness, or other programs to prevent unsafe conditions in and around mines. Applicants for the grants may be States and Territories (to include the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) and private or public nonprofit entities, to include Indian tribes, tribal organizations, Alaska Native entities, Indian-controlled organizations serving Indians, and Native Hawaiian organizations. MSHA could award as many as eight grants. The amount of each individual grant will be at least $50,000, and the maximum individual award will be $400,000.

The NEA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the National Education Association, is a public charity supported by contributions from educators' dues, corporate sponsors, and others. The foundation supports student success by helping public school educators work with key partners to build strong systems of shared responsibility. As part of an effort to achieve this goal, the foundation is inviting applications for its Learning and Leadership Grants program. The program provides support to public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education through grants to individuals to fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research; or grants to groups for collegial study activities, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment. The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. All $5,000 group grant applicants must include partner information. To be eligible, applicants must be a public school educator in grades pre-K-12; a public school education support professional; or a faculty or staff member at a public higher education institution. The foundation encourages applications from education support professionals. Preference will be given to members of the National Education Association.

In September 2016, the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) funded 8 cooperative agreements, under HHS-2016-ACF-OPRE-YE-1177 (Child Care and Development Block Grant Implementation Research and Evaluation Planning Grants, Cohort I/Phase I), for 18-months to Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Lead Agencies. Those grants provided funding for Lead Agencies to develop a research-based evaluation plan of the implementation of policies and initiatives in response to the goals of the CCDBG Act of 2014. Under this funding opportunity announcement (FOA), all grantees awarded planning grants (Cohort I/Phase I) could be funded to implement their research plan (up to 8 awards may be made).

The AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence, in partnership with the Association for Institutional Research, is accepting applications for its 2017 Research and Dissertation Fellows Program. The annual competition awards grants to scholars and doctoral students in support of year-long research projects. The program is designed to promote scholarship on issues related to access, affordability, and the value of legal education specifically, and graduate and professional education more broadly. Preference will be given to proposals that use regional, national, or multi-institutional datasets (although research focused on a single institution is acceptable). In addition, preference will be given to proposals that specifically address legal education; however, proposals that study access, affordability, and value of graduate and professional education more generally also are encouraged. Researchers may analyze pre-existing data or include the construction of a new dataset in their proposal. Two levels of grants are available to recipients affiliated with a non-profit U.S. postsecondary institution or relevant higher and legal education organization. 1) Research Grants: grants of up $50,000 are available to faculty, practitioners, and scholars. 2) Dissertation Grants: Grants of up to $25,000 are available to doctoral students for dissertation research and writing under the guidance of a faculty advisor.

In 2014, the NCAA begins a new initiative, the NCAA Innovations in Research and Practice Grant Program. While other NCAA-affiliated research efforts address student-athlete health and safety, in the current cycle this new grant program will support research and data-driven pilot programs designed to enhance student-athlete well-being and mental health. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, managing transitions (e.g., from recruit to first-year student; transferring between universities; adapting from youth sports to college sports environment; developing independence from parents), identity development, stress management, substance use, bystander intervention, cultivating healthy relationships, career exploration and sport exit strategies. The NCAA will award $100,000 in grants for the 2014 calendar year to scholars or practitioners conducting studies or piloting on-campus programs that benefit student-athletes and NCAA member institutions. Grant recipients will be invited to present their work to hundreds of key stakeholders in intercollegiate athletics and members of the media in January of 2015 at the NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C.

The Society for The Teaching of Psychology (Division 2 of APA) is pleased to announce a program of small grants to promote communication and collaboration between psychology teachers from different institutions. Specifically, this program is intended to bring together individuals to engage in planned activities to promote the teaching of psychology or who desire to work together to think about the ways in which the teaching of psychology can be improved. Proposed activities could take the form of conferences or small meetings devoted to teaching-related topics, or could take the form of collaborative activities between specific individuals from different institutions that are intended to improve the teaching of psychology in some way (e.g., bringing together high school and college psychology students for an interactive or experiential program, development of programs devoted to mentoring future psychology teachers, programs to bring together and utilize specialized teaching resources from different institutions). Grant funds can be used to defray the costs of the collaborative activities or the meetings involving representatives from different institutions (e.g., materials, equipment, fees, travel, food). Activities funded by this program may result in peer-reviewed publications, but do not necessarily have to have this goal. Research collaborations that focus on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) are no longer eligible for funding through this grant program; those interested in obtaining funding to support SoTL should apply to STP's "Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Research Grant" program. Non-SoTL research collaborations that include a significant teaching component can be submitted for consideration; proposals for research collaborations that will have no impact on teaching or include no teaching-related activities are also not appropriate for this program.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of U.S. Embassy Ulaanbaatar, U.S. Department of State, is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Local Grants Program. This Annual Program Statement outlines funding priorities and the procedures for submitting funding requests. The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announces the availability of approximately $975,412 to be competitively awarded for the purpose of expanding access to high-quality, comprehensive services to low-income infants and toddlers and their families through Early Head Start-Child Care (EHS-CC) Partnerships, or through the expansion of Early Head Start services. ACF solicits applications from public entities, including states, or private non-profit organizations, including community-based or faith-based organizations, or for-profit agencies that meet eligibility for applying as stated in section 645A of the Head Start Act.
