The mission of American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is to promote the healthy development of children, adolescents, and families and meet the professional needs of child and adolescent psychiatrists over the course of their careers. To advance this mission, AACAP is accepting applications to its Educational Outreach Program for General Psychiatry Residents. Through the program, general psychiatry residents will receive a formal overview of the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, including research opportunities, access to mentors, and various networking opportunities, as well as a stipend of up to $1,000 for travel expenses to the AACAP annual meeting

The training of a new generation of psychiatric academicians is a major objective of the Society of Biological Psychiatry.  Participation in professional meetings, where new information is exchanged and contacts are made, can have a critical impact on the career of a developing clinician-scientist. In recognition of the importance of academic exchange, the Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP) annually selects distinguished junior scientists to be a part of our Travel Fellowship Award program. Each travel fellowship award includes: $1,500 to help defray the travel and living cost to attend the 2014 annual meeting Waived registration to attend the 2014 meeting Waived registration to attend the 2015 and 2016 annual meeting (no financial award) An SOBP member mentor assigned to you during the meeting Opportunity to present a poster or oral abstract without an SOBP member sponsor Recognition events in honor of the Travel Fellowship Award recipeints To receive the travel award, applicants are expected to attend the entire meeting, be present for the recognition events, submit an abstract for a poster or oral presentation, and participate in the mentor/mentee program for young investigators.  These awards are supported by the Society of Biological Psychiatry and Elsevier, publisher of the Society's journal, Biological Psychiatry.

The Society for the Study of Psychiatry and Culture announces its annual call for papers for the Charles Hughes Fellowship and the John Spiegel Fellowship in Cultural Psychiatry. The Charles Hughes Fellowship is an annual award presented to a graduate student who has an interest in and commitment to cultural psychiatry and mental health. The John Spiegel Fellowship is an annual award presented to a resident in clinical training who is dedicated to improving clinical care through culturally-informed practice.

The AACAP Pilot Research Award for Learning Disabilities, supported by The Elaine Schlosser Lewis Fund, offers $15,000 for child and adolescent psychiatry residents and junior faculty who have an interest in beginning a career in child and adolescent mental health research. By providing one award to a child and adolescent psychiatry junior faculty member or resident for pilot research on learning disabilities, we support a young investigator at a critical stage, encouraging a future career in child and adolescent psychiatry research. The recipient has the opportunity to submit a poster presentation on his or her research for AACAP's 62nd Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX, October 26 - November 1, 2015.

The Society of Biological Psychiatry offers an annual award of $2,000 each in basic science and in clinical science for the purpose of stimulating international research in biological psychiatry by young investigators.

The American Psychiatric Association invites applicants for the Kempf Fund Award for Research Development in Psychobiological Psychiatry. This award recognizes a senior researcher who has made a significant contribution to research on the causes and treatment of schizophrenia as both a researcher and a mentor. A $1,500 award will be made to the senior researcher, and $20,000 will support the research career development of a young research psychiatrist working in a mentor-trainee relationship with the award winner on further research in this field.

The NIDA-AACAP Resident Training Award in Substance Abuse and Addiction, supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, seeks to facilitate the dissemination of research-based treatment by general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry residents in treatment settings.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) is accepting applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2018 Minority Fellowship Program (Short Title: MFP). The purpose of this program is to reduce behavioral health disparities and improve healthcare outcomes for racial and ethnic minority populations by: (1) increasing the knowledge of behavioral health professionals on issues related to treatment and recovery support for individuals who are from racial and ethnic minority populations and have a substance use disorder (SUD); (2) improving the quality of SUD treatment services delivered to racial and ethnic minority populations; and (3) increasing the number of culturally competent professionals in psychology focusing on services appropriate for those with SUDs, addiction psychiatry, and addiction medicine who teach, administer services, conduct research, and provide direct SUD services to racial and ethnic minority populations. The SUD treatment and recovery needs of racial and ethnic minority communities in the United States have been historically unmet due to the scarcity of practitioners equipped to address this population's needs. The MFP increases the number of behavioral health professionals with knowledge of issues related to treatment and recovery support for SUD among racial and ethnic minority populations. This program aims to specifically expand the training of professionals with a focus in psychology, addiction psychiatry, and addiction medicine.

The annual program is designed to support research on suicide from a variety of disciplines, including psychiatry, medicine, psychology, genetics, epidemiology, neurobiology, sociology, nursing, health services administration, social work, and many others. Grants of up to $300,000 over two years will be awarded to investigators at any level performing research involving two or more unique sites, with each site contributing unique expertise as well as data collection.

The annual program is designed to support research on suicide from a variety of disciplines, including psychiatry, medicine, psychology, genetics, epidemiology, neurobiology, sociology, nursing, health services administration, social work, and many others. Grants of up to $300,000 over two years will be awarded to investigators at any level performing research involving two or more unique sites, with each site contributing unique expertise as well as data collection.

The Kun-Po Soo Award was established in 1987 to recognize an individual who has made significant contributions toward understanding the impact and import of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry. The award also seeks to encourage scholarship and research in culture-specific mental health issues and treatment needs of Asian populations and to stimulate scientific exchange on transcultural issues.

The Oskar Pfister Award was established in 1983 in memory of Oskar Pfister, an ordained minister who studied and used psychoanalytic principles in his work. The award is given to honor outstanding contributions in the field of psychiatry and religion.

The American Psychiatric Foundation is sponsoring the one-year Psychiatric Research Fellowship for three post-graduate psychiatry trainees specifically to focus on research and personal scholarship. Minimal time (less than 15%) will be devoted to teaching, patient care, consultation, or other duties. The protection of time for research should be assured by the department chairman. The APA Jeanne Spurlock Congressional Fellowship is an opportunity for residents, fellows, and Early Career Psychiatrists to represent the profession of psychiatry on Capitol Hill and work with federal policy makers to shape public policy. The Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation ("KTGF") funds programs in children's mental health, principally in the areas of childhood/adolescent depression and ADHD. It also funds medical student programs in child and adolescent psychiatry at select medical institutions. Through these programs, the KTGF seeks to further research in pediatric ADHD and pediatric depression, cultivate more child and adolescent psychiatrists and increase knowledge of mental health in physicians.
