East European Studies Summer Research Scholarships | Wilson Center - 0 views

    EES offers summer research scholarships to scholars working on policy relevant projects on East Europe. While Southeast Europe remains a primary focus, projects on Central Europe and the Baltic states are again eligible. Projects should focus on fields in the social sciences and humanities including, but not limited to: Anthropology, History, Political Science, Slavic Languages and Literatures, and Sociology. All projects should aim to highlight their potential policy relevance.

    MOD invites all qualified scientists with faculty appointments or the equivalent, at universities, hospitals and research institutions (not for profit or profit), to submit applications for research grants relevant to our mission. This encompasses basic biological processes governing differentiation and development, genetics and genomics of these processes, clinical studies, reproductive health and environmental toxicology, and social and behavioral studies concerning cognitive and behavioral risks that affect outcomes of pregnancy, the perinatal period, and subsequent child development. Applications will be directed to one of three committees whose respective foci are:    * Cell Lineage and Differentiation  * Gene Discovery and Translational Medicine  * Social and Behavioral Sciences. This involves family units and includes genes, toxicants, social  determinants that adversely affect language or behavior, especially if involving premature  infants or children with birth defects.

    The Arts Endowment's support of a project may begin any time between November 1, 2015, and November 1, 2016, and extend for up to two years.Grant Program Description Through fellowships to published translators, the Arts Endowment supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English. We encourage translations of writers and of work that are not well represented in English translation. All proposed projects must be for creative translations of literary material into English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and value. Priority will be given to projects that involve work that has not previously been translated into English.Competition for fellowships is rigorous. International Reading Association Seeks Applications for International Professional Dev... - 0 views

    The International Literacy Association sponsors the Constance McCullough Award as a way to encourage international professional development activities. The $4,000 grant is awarded annually to assist an ILA member in the investigation of reading-related problems and to encourage international professional development activities that are carried out in countries outside of North America. The award represents a specific means for working toward as many as three articulated goals of the association, including advocacy, professional development, and emerging global issues. 1) Advocacy: Through the award, the association seeks to promote universal access to literacy and provide leadership in support of adequate funding for literacy programs on an international basis. 2) Professional Development: The association seeks to enhance and improve the professional development of literacy educators on an international basis that supports programs and processes in response to expressed needs and that responds quickly to identified professional needs. 3) Emerging Global Issues: The association seeks to identify and provide leadership on such emerging globally significant issues as access to primary education for all, access to current materials, and assessment of literacy levels. Any ILA member is eligible to submit a proposal, remembering that the Constance M. McCullough bequest to ILA is designated for use in international professional development activities undertaken in countries outside North America.     The U.S. Consulate Fukuoka Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. This annual notice of funding opportunities outlines our funding priorities and areas of interest, as well as procedures for submitting requests for funding. Please note that this notice supplements specific notices of funding opportunities that may be posted both here and on other relevant sites throughout the year. Any organization or individual interested in applying for funding should carefully follow all instructions. The U.S. Consulate Fukuoka is accepting applications for small grants to individuals or organizations to lead an English education program with American cultural content at the Fukuoka American Center, American Shelf partner institutions and/or a public space. The U.S. Consulate Fukuoka will award a grant of $500-$1,000 to fund a series of events to promote English language education, introduce American culture, and/or to encourage future travel to and study in the United States. To promote English language, we ask that at least one native-level English speaker is involved in the proposed activities. Proposed activities might follow the past English learning programs hosted by Fukuoka American Center (please contact the Fukuoka Grants Management to receive the sample session descriptions for English Club and Kids English Learning Program) or propose an alternative model. Sessions can be held monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly on or after November 15, 2018 for one year. Sessions must be open to the public and cannot be commercial, trade or charitable activities. No for-profit organizations can receive funding through these awards. If awarded, the Grantee will be responsible for coordinating the schedule with the Fukuoka American Center and/or American Shelf partner institutions.

    The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in Moscow (PAS Moscow) announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to administer the FY 2019-2020 English Language Teaching Support. Please carefully follow all instructions below. The U.S. Embassy in Moscow invites proposal submissions for a cooperative agreement to provide technical and logistical support for English Language Programming from the English Language Office (ELO) in Russia. Award recipients will consult closely with the English Language Officer in PAS Moscow throughout the development, implementation, and evaluation of each English Language Program. Each English Language Program professionally develops teachers, increases the English language skills of students, or assists an expert to professionally develop other teachers of English in Russia. These include, but are not limited to: Umbrella and National Association of Teachers' of English) NATE conferences, ETA support to visit English Access camps, Teacher Associations' and USG alumni support, travel of Russian English teachers to TESOL Convention and other international conferences, and targets of opportunity. The grantee will be responsible for providing logistical support during major ELO events and projects in Russia in the form of venue negotiations and arrangements, transportation, transfers, hotel and meal arrangements, purchasing of materials and supplies, and other technical and/or logistical support, as directed by PAS Moscow. The Grantee will be required to provide the Embassy with program account records on a regular basis.

    America's cultural heritage is preserved not only in libraries, museums, archives, and other community organizations, but also in all of our homes, family histories, and life stories. The Common Heritage program aims to capture this vitally important part of our country's heritage and preserve it for future generations. Common Heritage will support both the digitization of cultural heritage materials and the organization of outreach through community events that explore and interpret these materials as a window on the community's history and culture. The Common Heritage program considers a community to be a city or town (or a part of a city or town) that has been strongly shaped by geographical and historical forces. Members of the public in that community may have diverse family histories and heritage, or they may share a historical, cultural, or linguistic heritage. The program recognizes that members of the public-in partnership with libraries, museums, archives, and historical organizations-have much to contribute to the understanding of our cultural mosaic. Together, such institutions and the public can be effective partners in the appreciation and stewardship of our common heritage. The program supports events organized by community cultural institutions, which members of the public will be invited to attend. At these events experienced staff will digitize the community historical materials brought in by the public. Project staff will also record descriptive information-provided by community attendees-about the historical materials.

Einstein Forum - Albert Einstein-Stipendium - 0 views

    The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

PEN America Invites Applications for PEN/Heim Translation Fund - 0 views

    To that end, the organization is accepting applications for the PEN/Heim Translation Fund, which was established in 2003 by Priscilla and Michael Henry Heim in response to the dismayingly low number of literary translations currently appearing in English. Through the fund, grants will be awarded in support of the translation of book-length works of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or drama that have not previously appeared in English in print or have appeared only in an outdated or otherwise flawed translation. Grants typically range between $2,000 and $4,000. Works should be translations-in-progress, as the grant aims to provide support for completion. Projects may have up to two translators. All other criteria being equal, preference will be given to translators at the beginning of their career, and to works by underrepresented writers working in underrepresented languages. Works with multiple translators, literary criticism, and scholarly or technical texts do not qualify.

    The purpose of the NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is to provide support and protected time (three to five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence.     The American Research Institute in Turkey takes pleasure in inviting applications for one to three advanced long-term fellowships for research in Turkey made possible by support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The fields of study cover all periods of history in the general range of the humanities and include humanistically oriented aspects of the social sciences, prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics, as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history. The fellowships tenures range from four to twelve continuous months during 2018-2019. Stipends of $4,200 per month are awarded on the basis of individual proposals. Scholars who have completed their formal training by the application deadline and plan to carry out research in Turkey for four months or longer may apply. They may be U.S. citizens or three-year residents of the U.S. Please consult ARIT U.S. office for questions of eligibility. Advanced scholars may also apply for ARIT Fellowships in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
