The David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library and the Center for Jewish Studies are pleased to announce the availability of new fellowships, with awards of $1500, to support scholars, students, and independent researchers whose work would benefit from access to the Judaica materials held by the Rubenstein Library, the Duke Divinity School Library, and/or Perkins Library. 

The Library of Congress invites qualified scholars to conduct research in the John W. Kluge Center using the Library of Congress collections and resources for a period of up to eleven months. Established in 2000 through an endowment of $60 million from John W. Kluge, the Center is located in the splendid Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. The Kluge Center furnishes attractive work and discussion space for Kluge Chair holders, for distinguished visiting scholars, and for post-doctoral Fellows supported by other private foundation gifts. Residents have easy access to the Library's specialized staff and to the intellectual community of Washington. The Kluge Center especially encourages humanistic and social science research that makes use of the Library's large and varied collections. Interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, or multi-lingual research is particularly welcome. Among the collections available to researchers are the world's largest law library and outstanding multi-lingual collections of books and periodicals. Deep special collections of manuscripts, maps, music, films, recorded sound, prints and photographs are also available. America's Historical and Cultural Organizations (AHCO) grants provide support for museums, libraries, historic places, and other organizations that produce public programs in the humanities. Grants support the following formats: * exhibitions at museums, libraries, and other venues; * interpretations of historic places, sites, or regions; * book/film discussion programs; living history presentations; other face-to-face programs at libraries, community centers, and other public venues; and * interpretive websites and other digital formats. Types of America's Historical and Cultural Organizations awards Planning grants support the early stages of project development, including consultation with scholars, refinement of humanities themes, preliminary design, testing, and audience evaluation. Implementation grants support final scholarly research and consultation, design development, production, and installation of a project for presentation to the public.

The award holder will engage in research on the changing nature of Quaker involvement with business in the twentieth century. Academic supervision of the doctoral thesis will be overseen by Professor Ben Pink Dandelion (Centre for Postgraduate Quaker Studies, Department of Theology and Religion).  Applicants should normally have, or be studying for, a Master's degree in Modern History, Religious Studies, Quaker Studies or a related discipline. Experience in archival research is preferred. The studentship is £17,000 per annum, payable termly. The standard University of Birmingham tuition fees will be paid by the student out of their studentship.

Fellowship applications are accepted from both tenured and untenured faculty as well as from recent Ph.D.'s without a tenure-track position and professors emeriti. Where appropriate, applications are accepted from independent artists, documentary film-makers, and writers.

The next deadline is August 14, 2013, and we expect this grant program to be offered again in January 2014.

Western Washington University's Center for Pacific Northwest Studies welcomes applications for the James W. Scott Regional Research Fellowships, established to promote awareness and use of archival collections at Western and to forward scholarly understandings of the Pacific Northwest. The fellowships are awarded in honor of the late Dr. James W. (Jim) Scott, a founder and first Director of the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies, and a noted scholar of the Pacific Northwest region. The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies is a program of Western Libraries' Heritage Resources, located in the Goltz-Murray Archives Building.  Two awards of $500 each will be granted to scholars who propose to undertake significant research using archival holdings at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies (CPNWS): An award to a junior scholar (those in graduate programs or who have finished the Ph.D. within the last two years and/or are relatively new to the field of historical research and writing). An award to a senior scholar (generally published authors or those more than three years out from the Ph.D.).

Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to thirty emerging artists and scholars in the early or middle stages of their careers who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Prize recipients are invited to Rome for six months or eleven months to immerse themselves in the Academy community where they will enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand their own professional, artistic, or scholarly pursuits, drawing on their colleagues' erudition and experience and on the inestimable resources that Italy, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Academy have to offer. Rome Prize winners are the core of the Academy's residential community, which also includes Residents and Visiting Artists and Scholars. Fellows are encouraged to work collegially within and across disciplines in pursuit of their individual artistic and scholarly goals. The Academy gratefully acknowledges the National Endowment for the Humanities for its support of the Rome Prize competition.

The International Research Center "Work and Human Lifecycle in Global History" at Humboldt University in Berlin, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and headed by Professor Andreas Eckert, invites scholars to apply for 10 to 15 international research fellowships (senior scholars and postdoctoral candidates) for the 2014-2015 academic year. Applications are due in Berlin on 31 August 2013. We welcome candidates especially from the disciplines of history, anthropology, law, sociology, political science, and area studies. Applicants should be at the postdoctoral level or senior scholars. We would like the proposed projects to employ a historical and transregional perspective. Also, please do not only focus on work/ labour, but also on life course. Possible topic areas are, among others, the household, loss of work, the relationship between work and non-work, as well as free and unfree labour. We welcome proposals about all regions of the world and especially those that look at comparisons, conflicts, relations between different regions. A global history perspective is not required; keeping an open mind to such ideas, however, is highly desirable. The fellowships will begin on 1 October 2014 and end on 31 July 2015. Shorter fellowship terms will be possible. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend, which can be individually negotiated, and are obliged to work at the research center in Berlin. A fully equipped office will be provided as well as organizational help for visa, housing, etc. During the fellowship, we also encourage fellows to introduce their work to wider audiences within Berlin's scientific community.

Document historical and ongoing traditional cultural uses of the Cape Cod National Seashore and its land and sea resources by Native Americans of the region.

The Academy welcomes emerging as well as established scholars, writers, and professionals who wish to engage in independent study in Berlin. Around two dozen Berlin Prizes are conferred annually. Past Berlin Prize recipients have included historians, economists, poets, art historians, journalists, legal scholars, anthropologists, musicologists, public policy experts, and writers, among others. The Academy does not accept project proposals in mathematics and the hard sciences. In addition to placing a high priority on the independent work of its fellows, the Academy is in a unique position to aid fellows in establishing professional and general networks both in Berlin and beyond. The Academy's public outreach, which facilitates the introduction of a fellow's work to a wider audience, serves its mission of fostering transatlantic ties through cultural exchange. Fellowships are typically awarded for an academic semester or, in some cases, for an entire academic year. Only the Bosch Fellowships in Public Policy may be for shorter stays of six to eight weeks. Fellowship benefits include round-trip airfare, housing at the Academy, partial board, and a stipend of $5,000 per month. The Academy's furnished apartments at the Hans Arnhold Center are suitable for individuals and couples; accommodations are available for families with children at the Hans Arnhold Center or at nearby apartments. All fellows are expected to reside at the Hans Arnhold Center during the entire term of the award. Fellowships are restricted to candidates based permanently in the US. US citizenship is not required, and American expatriates are not eligible.

The Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research invites applications for fellowships starting in April 2014. The Centre will offer six to eight fellowships across the four research units. The fellows will work at the Centre for a period of six to twelve months. The Centre is calling for people working on „Culture" as a limit and/or a resource for global cooperation. Within this research topic, we intend to overcome 'substantialist' views of culture (as a civilisational substance) as well as 'residualist' views (culture as a black box). The research question can be approached from different disciplinary angles and shall be elaborated in a multi- and interdisciplinary setting.

Cornell's Society for the Humanities was established in 1966 as one of the first humanities institutes in North America. Located in the historic home of Cornell's first president, Andrew Dickson White, the Society brings distinguished Visiting Fellows and Cornell Faculty and Graduate Student Fellows together each year to pursue research on a broadly inter-disciplinary focal theme. In addition to participating in our legendary Wednesday Fellows seminar, Fellows offer one experimental, innovative seminar on their research topic. The Society's presence at Cornell has fostered path-breaking inter-disciplinary dialogue and theoretical reflection on the humanities at large with our internationally recognized Fellows. The Society is proud to sponsor numerous internal grants, workshops, and funding opportunities for Cornell faculty and graduate students in the Humanities as well as hosting over 100 annual lectures, workshops, colloquia, and conferences organized by Cornell's distinguished humanities faculty. The 2013-14 focal theme is "OCCUPATION: From Space & Time to Practice & Politics."

The CHM master is a one year program in partnership with the Unesco Chair in Cultural Tourism and Development at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne under the direction of Prof. Fekri Hassan and Prof. Maria Gravari-Barbas. Its third edition will be offered from October the 7th 2013. Scholarships are available for candidate sending their cv, scanned copy of degree documents and motivation letter stating clearly that they apply for the scholarship!Please email your documents to heritagemaster@ufe.edu.eg before June the 23rd. It includes a variety of topics related to cultural heritage management structured in core courses and specialised courses in 1.Cultural Tourism, 2.Museum Studies, 3.Architectural and Urban Heritage. All courses and course materials are in English and address a public of graduated and professionals working in the field of heritage. Lessons are offered during three afternoons per week and often a field trip during the Saturdays is organised to combine an on site experience with the theoretical data. A summer internship has to be undertaken as integral part of the curriculum during the summer semester and at the conclusion of the courses a research master thesis will be presented in an oral examination session in front of a mixed commission of Egyptian and French experts and professors.

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum (NPM) is pleased to announce, in conjunction with the Confederate Stamp Alliance (CSA), George W. Brett Memorial Scholarship, Washington 2006 World Philatelic Exhibition, National Philatelic Exhibitions of Washington D.C. (NAPEX) and the United States Stamp Society, annual scholarships for the research of postage stamps or postal history leading to publication of the research findings. The scholarships are available to PhD's, or doctoral candidates engaged in dissertation research, advanced graduate students, and/or other scholars so that the awardee may spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research in the NPM library and other Washington DC libraries on their projects and discussing their work with others. They are available for the research of postage stamps or postal history leading to publication on any topic supported by NPM collection or library, other Washington DC libraries, like the National Archives or the Library of Congress, or in State research libraries as described in the individual announcement. Interested persons, wherever resident, are invited to apply at any time with the deadline being September 1, 2014, for these scholarships for scholarly research of postage stamps or postal history. The annual scholarship, for a sum up to $2,000, shall be a contribution toward expenses for a visit(s) to Washington DC.

University College Cork invites applications for scholarships in the four-year structured PhD programme in Digital Arts and Humanities (DAH). Successful candidates will be registered with the full-time inter-disciplinary structured PhD programme co-ordinated with an all-Irish university consortium. Candidates will pursue their individual research agendas within the program, based on projects developed from proposals which they provide during the application process. The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 10-month residencies in one of the 16 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Budapest, Cambridge, Delmenhorst, Freiburg, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar, Zürich. The Institutes for Advanced Study support the focused, self-directed work of outstanding researchers. The fellows benefit from the finest intellectual and research conditions and from the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary and international community of first-rate scholars. EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in life and exact sciences, provided that their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities and that it interfaces with humanities and social sciences. The diversity of the 16 participating IAS offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants may select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions. The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising young scholars as well as from leading senior researchers. The EURIAS selection process has proven to be highly competitive. To match the Programme standards, applicants have to submit a solid and innovative research proposal, to demonstrate the ability to forge beyond disciplinary specialisation, to show an international commitment as well as quality publications in high-impact venues. For the 2014-2015 academic year, EURIAS offers 39 fellowships (20 junior and 19 senior positions).

The Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants program awards relatively small grants to support the planning stages of innovative projects that promise to benefit the humanities. Proposals should be for the planning or initial stages of digital initiatives in any area of the humanities. Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants may involve * research that brings new approaches or documents best practices in the study of the digital humanities; * planning and developing prototypes of new digital tools for preserving, analyzing, and making accessible digital resources, including libraries' and museums' digital assets; * scholarship that focuses on the history, criticism, and philosophy of digital culture and its impact on society; * scholarship or studies that examine the philosophical or practical implications and impact of the use of emerging technologies in specific fields or disciplines of the humanities, or in interdisciplinary collaborations involving several fields or disciplines; * innovative uses of technology for public programming and education utilizing both traditional and new media; and * new digital modes of publication that facilitate the dissemination of humanities scholarship in advanced academic as well as informal or formal educational settings at all academic levels. Innovation is a hallmark of this grant category, which incorporates the "high risk/high reward" paradigm often used by funding agencies in the sciences. NEH is requesting proposals for projects that take some risks in the pursuit of innovation and excellence. Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants should result in plans, prototypes, or proofs of concept for long-term digital humanities projects prior to implementation.

Scholars of Chinese Studies are encouraged to apply for special summer travel grants designed to promote  the use of the Canton Archives and Passionist China Collection at the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western  Cultural History at the University of San Francisco Center for the Pacific Rim.  Applications for travel grants to visit the USF Ricci Institute are welcome from scholars and researchers  working on social, cultural, diplomatic, religious, economic, political, and architectural history from the  19th and 20th centuries (to 1950).
