The Mining History Association (MHA) Research Grant Program is open to all who are currently engaged in or who plan to conduct mining history research, including graduate students, academic scholars, public sector professionals in related disciplines, independent scholars, writers, and educators. Research may focus on technology, business, social and cultural life, the environment, or any other aspect of mining, its associated industries, and its communities. The MHA does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, age, national origin, sexual orientation or disability.

Scholars of Chinese Studies are encouraged to apply for special summer travel grants designed to promote  the use of the Canton Archives and Passionist China Collection at the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western  Cultural History at the University of San Francisco Center for the Pacific Rim.  Applications for travel grants to visit the USF Ricci Institute are welcome from scholars and researchers  working on social, cultural, diplomatic, religious, economic, political, and architectural history from the  19th and 20th centuries (to 1950).

The Library of Congress invites qualified scholars to conduct research in the John W. Kluge Center using the Library of Congress collections and resources for a period of up to eleven months. Established in 2000 through an endowment of $60 million from John W. Kluge, the Center is located in the splendid Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. The Kluge Center furnishes attractive work and discussion space for Kluge Chair holders, for distinguished visiting scholars, and for post-doctoral Fellows supported by other private foundation gifts. Residents have easy access to the Library's specialized staff and to the intellectual community of Washington. The Kluge Center especially encourages humanistic and social science research that makes use of the Library's large and varied collections. Interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, or multi-lingual research is particularly welcome. Among the collections available to researchers are the world's largest law library and outstanding multi-lingual collections of books and periodicals. Deep special collections of manuscripts, maps, music, films, recorded sound, prints and photographs are also available. Projects funded by the OHC must demonstrate a humanities focus - drawing on topics and themes from the humanities fields, including Archaeology, Comparative Religion, Ethics, History, Languages & Linguistics, Literature, Jurisprudence, Philosophy, the History, Theory, and Criticism of the Arts, and certain aspects of the Social Sciences which use historical or philosophical approaches - as well as humanities scholar involvement, public benefit, balanced viewpoints, effective program formats and sponsor cost-share.

he $1,000 CORST Essay Prize recognizes the best essay on psychoanalytically informed research in the biobehavioral sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The winning essay will be presented at the APsaA National Meeting and will be reviewed for publication by The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Deadline: The deadline for receipt of short-term and summer research grant applications and supporting materials is March 1, 2013. Applicants will be notified approximately one month later. Eligibility: These Title VIII grants are available to American academic experts and practitioners, including advanced graduate students, engaged in specialized research requiring access to Washington, DC and its research institutions. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, in order to be considered eligible for this grant opportunity. This is a residential program requiring visiting scholars to remain in the Washington, DC area and to forego other academic and professional obligations for the duration of the grant. Short-term grants offer a stipend for one month, while summer research grants provide support for two months. Both opportunities include residence at the Wilson Center. Project Scope: EES offers residential summer and short-term research grants to scholars working on policy relevant projects on East Europe. While Southeast Europe remains a primary focus, projects on Central Europe and the Baltic states are also eligible. Countries that fall under this scope are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Projects should focus on fields in the social sciences and humanities including, but not limited to: Anthropology, History, Political Science, Slavic Languages and Literatures, and Sociology.

The Moakley Archive and Institute at Suffolk University is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 Moakley Research Travel Grant. The grant supports archival research to be conducted at the Moakley Archive and Institute from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014. Awards of up to $1500 may be used to underwrite travel, lodging, copying and other research expenses. Primary consideration will be given to projects involving the substantive study of issues related to Suffolk University, the career of Congressman John Joseph Moakley, and the study of Congress. Proposals should be aimed at a discrete end product such as a book, dissertation, thesis, article, documentary, film, exhibit, Web site or social networking site.

Research Grants are given to qualified individuals or teams who are members of the NSS by the time the proposal is submitted for research-support in cave-related branches of study. This includes, but is not limited to, natural sciences (e.g., cave biology, geology, paleontology, and hydrology), social sciences (e.g., archaeology), and the humanities (e.g., speleological history). We also welcome interdisciplinary proposals. Humanities Connections grants seek to expand the role of the humanities in the undergraduate curriculum at two- and four-year institutions, offering students in all academic fields new opportunities to develop the intellectual skills and habits of mind that the humanities cultivate. Grant projects focus on connecting the resources and perspectives of the humanities to students' broader educational and professional goals, regardless of their path of study. Through this new grant program, NEH invites proposals that reflect innovative and imaginative approaches to preparing students for their roles as engaged citizens and productive professionals in a rapidly changing and interdependent world. The Arts Envoy Program annually enables approximately 200 American artists and cultural experts (known as Arts Envoys) to travel abroad for individual programs or as part of an ensemble or group to engage and consult with key foreign audiences through performances, workshops, meetings, seminars, and appearances in foreign media. By addressing topics identified and developed by U.S. Missions (generally U.S. Embassies and Consulates) worldwide in cooperation with ECA, the program promotes an understanding of U.S. policies and institutions, and the political, economic, social, and cultural context from which they arise. Arts Envoy individuals and groups are programmed in one or more countries with a variety of audiences from a wide range of disciplines in the cultural arena, including in the performing and visual arts, and in arts management, as well as with museum professionals and other cultural experts. To study the challenges targeted in this call, both inter- and transdisciplinary approaches that enable researchers to address the interconnections and interdependencies between natural and human systems, as well as between science and society, are needed. This programme has two major objectives: - To develop understanding of and promote research on transformations to sustainability which are of significant social, economic and policy concern throughout the world and of great relevance to both academics and stakeholders. - To build capacity, overcome fragmentation and have a lasting impact on both society and the research landscape by cultivating durable research collaboration across multiple borders, disciplinary boundaries, and with practitioners and societal partners. This includes facilitating the development of new research collaborations with parts of the world which are not often involved in large-scale international research efforts, notably low- and middle-income countries.

As part of broader university-wide diversity and inclusion efforts, the Office of the President and the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (OARS) have issued a special call for proposals to conduct research, scholarship, or creative activities in the areas of social justice, human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Proposals may be submitted in any of these areas, but must address a scholarly question that will lead to testable objectives or measurable outcomes.

The Israeli Inter-University Academic Partnership in Russian and East European Studies is offering a small number of highly competitive postdoctoral fellowships in the field of Russian and East European Studies for the 2014-2015 academic year. These fellowships are offered to researchers across all disciplines in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, broadly defined, and will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence. Postdoctoral fellowships are offered to young scholars who have received their PhD degree no earlier than 2009 and no later than June 2014. The fellows will be selected by an international academic committee and then placed in one of the partner universities: Bar-Ilan University, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa. Postdoctoral fellows will be awarded up to 87,500 NIS per year (equivalent to approximately $25,000). In some cases, the fellowships will entail a teaching commitment at the host university.

Historical thinking is now included as a foundation of the Ontario history curriculum. It plays a key role in the new draft social studies curriculum in British Columbia. Other Canadian provinces are moving in the same direction. The summer institute is designed for teachers, graduate students, curriculum developers, professional development leaders and museum educators who want to enhance their expertise at designing and teaching history courses and programs with explicit attention to historical thinking. The 2014 Historical Thinking Summer Institute will explore six historical thinking concepts: evidence significance continuity & change cause & consequence perspective-taking the ethical dimension of history These concepts will shape our exploration of two substantive themes: Aboriginal-settler relations, and human-nature relations over time. We will use local cases, resources and expertise available in Vancouver, but the work will be applicable to other locations across Canada and internationally.

Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal is launching a Multidisciplinary Research Program on the social, economic and technological shifts that took place in Britain in the period 1945-1975 and, specifically, how these transformations and reform efforts were registered through culture. The CCA invites researchers or practitioners from any relevant cultural discipline to propose papers fitting this topic for a working seminar to be held in Montreal during May 2014. The seminar will be the first phase of an 18-month research program generously supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
