For over 20 years the Barbara Bates Center for The Study of the History of Nursing has offered fellowships and research awards of up to $5,000 to support: residence at the Center, ongoing collaboration with nurse historians, and historical research in nursing. It is expected that the research and new materials produced by our scholars will help ensure the growth of scholarly work focused on the history of nursing.

Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation's college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Gilder Lehrman Fellowships are open to doctoral candidates, postdoctoral scholars, college and university faculty at every rank, and independent scholars working in American history. International scholars are eligible to apply.  Applications must be postmarked or submitted via email by May 1, 2013. All applicants will be notified by June 7, 2013.

The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin announces the 2013-2014 William and Madeline Welder Smith Research Travel Award. Five fellowships of up to $1,000.00 each will be given, and the aid may be used any time from September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2014. Through the Smith Travel Award, the Briscoe Center for American History will assist masters, doctoral, and post-doctoral students with costs associated with travel to Austin, Texas. The award is intended for students who need to conduct in-depth research in the holdings of the Briscoe Center and who reside outside of the Austin metropolitan area.

Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources in the humanities. Projects may be at any stage of development.

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is making available for advanced study and research one of the finest weaving archives in the nation-the Churchill Weavers collection. Comprised of more than 30,000 handwoven textiles and related weaving and business records, this collection promises to enrich many areas of scholarship, especially those related to labor history and textile production in Appalachia.  Churchill Weavers was a handweaving business that operated in Berea, Kentucky, from 1922 to 2007. The company was once considered America's premier producer of luxury handwoven goods. Today KHS maintains this collection and has at last made it available to scholars for advanced study and research.

The DHC Visiting Fellow program is generally a sabbatical/leave-based position as there is no large stipend associated with this position. However, apart from the mutual benefits of being engaged with our vibrant local intellectual community in the heart of Lincoln Park in Chicago, Visiting Fellows will be given an office in the Center (with computer), staff support, library privileges, and an honorarium of up to $1,000 per quarter to support the public presentation of Fellows' work (with at least one public lecture supported and expected of all Visiting Fellows) and for participation in other DHC programming.

The purpose of the Margaret W. Moore and John M. Moore Research Fellowship is to provide a stipend to promote research during the academic year or summer months using the resources of the Friends Historical Library and/or the Swarthmore College Peace Collection. Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

The Portage Route Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation invites applications from student scholars to its Scholar-In-Residence fellowship program designed to encourage use of the William P. Sherman Library and Archives in Great Falls, Montana. A $3000 stipend will be granted to a student researcher who articulates a research topic suitable for extensive use of this special collection. The stipend is meant to defray expenses incurred in traveling to, and residing in, Great Falls, MT for three to four weeks. The Portage Route Chapter will assist the Scholar in finding cost-effective lodging. Desk space and internet connection will be provided by the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation. Research is expected to focus upon at least one of the following (or similar) areas:  Jefferson's Corps of Discovery; the native peoples the Expedition met along their journey; efforts to establish and protect the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail; work of Lewis and Clark entities connecting the general public to the National Historic Trail through interpretation; commemoration of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial, 2003 - 2006; and the organizational history of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation - about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. An applicant's proposal should specifically address its relevance to the unique resources found in the Sherman Library's collections.

The National Academy of Education advances high-quality education research and its use in policy formation and practice. Founded in 1965, the academy comprises United States members and foreign associates who are elected on the basis of outstanding scholarship related to education. Since its establishment, NAEd has undertaken research studies that address pressing issues in education typically conducted by members and other scholars with relevant expertise.

The Organization of American Historians sponsors or cosponsors awards, prizes, fellowships and grants given in recognition of scholarly and professional achievements in the field of American history. The awards and prizes are presented during the OAH Annual Meeting.

Boren Awards fund U.S. undergraduate and graduate language study and research abroad in world regions critical to U.S. national interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. The Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for undergraduate students for language‐focused study abroad. The Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for graduate students to fund language study, graduate‐level research, and academic internships abroad. Since 1989, the James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation has been in the vanguard of historic preservation practice and theory. The foundation's mission is to support professionals in the field of historic preservation, and to advance that mission the foundation provides mid-career grants to those working in preservation, landscape architecture, urban design, environmental planning, materials conservation, decorative arts, architectural design and history, and related fields.

The Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University is accepting applications for its 2018-19 post-doctorate fellowship program. The Center offers grants to outstanding researchers who study the ethical, moral and political aspects of markets, both local and global from all disciplines and fields, including economics, social sciences, business, the humanities and the law.

The Robert and Elizabeth Dole Archive and Special Collections is currently accepting applications for a $2500 Archival Fellowship, in conjunction with the closing year of University of Kansas' World War I Commemoration.  The Archival Fellow will work with Dole Archives staff to evaluate relevant archival holdings and develop a topic guide and online teaching module based on Senator Bob Dole's career advocacy on behalf of Armenia.  The final product will be used as an introduction to this topic for K-12, university, and general public audiences.

The Spencer Foundation was established in 1962 to investigate ways in which education, broadly conceived, can be improved around the world. From the first, the foundation has been dedicated to the belief that research is necessary to improvement in education. To that end, the foundation is committed to supporting high-quality investigation through its research programs and to strengthening and renewing the educational research community through its fellowship and training programs and related activities.

The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies invites applications for postdoctoral research grants of up to $5,000 in any field of Baltic Studies. Funds may be used for travel, duplication, materials, equipment or other needs as specificed. Applicants must have received PhD no earlier than January 1, 2007. This grant award has no citizenship or residency restrictions. The application deadline for the 2018-2019 grant is 20 December 2017. Award notifications will be made by March 2018. The Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders Award supports tenure-track faculty who have passed their midpoint review. The award is structured to free the time of junior faculty who have passed their midpoint tenure review-including those from underrepresented groups and others committed to eradicating disparities in their fields-so that they can both engage in and build support systems, networks, and affinity groups that make their fields and campuses more inclusive. Eligible applicants must have passed their third-year review or their institution's equivalent.

The Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology Resident Scholar Program, supported by The Dibner Fund, awards stipends of $3,500.00 per month for up to six months for individuals working on a topic relating to the history of science and technology who can make substantial use of collections in the Dibner Library. Historians, librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Dibner Library during the award period. Scholars wanting to do research in other areas of SI Libraries' Special Collections should apply for the Baird Society Resident Scholar Program.
