The Tanaka Fund was established in 1974 as the result of an exchange of gifts between the governments of Canada and Japan. Canada offered $1,000,000 to Japan to promote Canadian studies in Japanese universities, while Japan provided 300 million yen for the enhancement of Japanese studies in Canadian universities. The funds were used to establish the "Japan Foundation Trust Fund for the Promotion of Japanese Studies in Canadian Universities". Guidelines developed by The Japan Foundation stipulated that the Trust Fund would be administered as an endowment and that the income thereof should be made available for the support and promotion of Japanese studies at universities and colleges in Canada. Universities Canada has administered the Fund since 1975. Until 2016, support for Japanese language lectureship at Canadian Universities was funded. In 2018, the Tanaka Fund was restructured to focus support towards young emerging scholars in order to foster the next generation of Japanese Studies scholarship in Canada.

The National Park Service's (NPS) African American Civil Rights Grant Program (AACR) will document, interpret, and preserve the sites related to the African American struggle to gain equal rights as citizens in the 20th Century. The NPS 2008 report, "Civil Rights in America, A Framework for Identifying Significant Sites," will serve as the reference document in determining the appropriateness of proposed projects and properties. AACR Grants are funded by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), administered by the NPS, and will fund a broad range of preservation projects for historic sites including: architectural services, historic structure reports, preservation plans, and physical preservation to structures. Grants are awarded through a competitive process and do not require non-Federal match. There are separate funding announcements for physical preservation projects and for historical research/documentation projects. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The U.S. Embassy Moscow Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce funding is available through our Public Diplomacy Grants Program. This Annual Program Statement outlines our funding priorities, strategic themes, and the procedure for submitting requests for funding. Applications for programs are accepted on a rolling basis until the deadline (June 15, 2020). This deadline is necessary to provide sufficient time to process and award programs before the end of our fiscal year on September 30, 2020. Applicants may apply for funding between $500 and $24,000 (the small grants program). Using the same application, you may also apply for funding up to $75,000 (the large grants program), although the number of large grants awarded each year is extremely limited. Please carefully follow all instructions below. Please use the grant application document and budget template found on our website. Purpose of APS Grants: PAS Moscow invites proposals for projects that strengthen ties between the United States and Russia through concrete demonstrations of cooperation between our two peoples. All grant proposals must convey an element of American history, culture, or shared values. Competitive proposals should support a priority program area (see below). Competitive proposals should also include a connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s that will promote increased cooperation between the people of the United States and Russia even after the program has finished.

AFCP-supported projects include the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages.

NEH is soliciting proposals from institutions to participate in the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP). NDNP is creating a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1836 and 1922, from all the states and U.S. territories. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at the Library of Congress (LC) and will be freely accessible via the Internet. (See the website, Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers.) An accompanying national newspaper directory of bibliographic and holdings information on the website directs users to newspaper titles available in all types of formats. During the course of its partnership with NEH, LC will also digitize and contribute to the NDNP database a significant number of newspaper pages drawn from its own collections. NEH intends to support projects in all states and U.S. territories, provided that sufficient funds allocated for this purpose are available. One organization within each U.S. state or territory will receive an award to collaborate with relevant state partners in this effort. Previously funded projects will be eligible to receive supplements for continued work, but the program will give priority to new projects. In particular, the program will give priority to projects from states and territories that have not received NDNP funding. Applications that involve collaboration between previously funded and new projects are welcome. Such collaborations might involve, for example, arranging with current awardees to manage the creation and delivery of digital files; offering regular and ongoing consultation on managing aspects of the project; or providing formal training for project staff at an onsite institute or workshop. Over a period of two years, successful applicants will select newspapers¿published in their state or territory between 1836 and 1922¿and convert approximately 100,000 pages into digital files (primarily from microfilm), according to the technica

CBI conducts major research projects; publishes books and articles; and collects, processes, and provides open public access to the most diverse and extensive collection of archival materials on computing, software, and networking in the world. CBI collections include the records of corporations, technical and trade associations, personal papers, industry publications, oral histories, photographs, film/video, and an extensive reference library. Boren Awards fund U.S. undergraduate and graduate language study and research abroad in world regions critical to U.S. national interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. The Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for undergraduate students for language‐focused study abroad. The Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for graduate students to fund language study, graduate‐level research, and academic internships abroad. Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

Digital Humanities Advancement Grants (DHAG) support digital projects at different stages throughout their lifecycles, from early start-up phases through implementation and sustainability. Experimentation, reuse, and extensibility are hallmarks of this program, leading to innovative work that can scale to enhance scholarly research, teaching, and public programming in the humanities. This program is offered twice per year. Proposals are welcome for digital initiatives in any area of the humanities. Through a special partnership with NEH and pending the availability of appropriated funds, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) anticipates providing additional funding to this program to encourage innovative collaborations between museum or library professionals and humanities professionals to advance preservation of, access to, use of, and engagement with digital collections and services. IMLS and NEH may jointly fund some DHAG projects that involve collaborations with museums and/or libraries. Digital Humanities Advancement Grants may involve * creating or enhancing experimental, computationally-based methods, techniques, or infrastructure that contribute to the humanities; * pursuing scholarship that examines the history, criticism, and philosophy of digital culture and its impact on society; or * conducting evaluative studies that investigate the practices and the impact of digital scholarship on research, pedagogy, scholarly communication, and public engagement.

Applications for the Cushwa Center's five research funding programs are due December 31, 2018.  Grants and awards fund research in repositories at the University of Notre Dame and beyond.  Research Travel Grants assist scholars visiting the Notre Dame Archives and Hesburgh Libraries.  Peter R. D'Agostino Research Travel Grants support research in Roman archives for projects on U.S. Catholic history.  Mother Theodore Guerin Research Travel Grants support research focused on Catholic women in modern history.  Hesburgh Research Travel Grants support projects using the Theodore M. Hesburgh Papers and related collections at the Notre Dame Archives.  Hibernian Research Awards provide travel funds for the scholarly study of Irish and Irish American history.  

Grants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund are designed to advance ongoing preservation activities for historic places such as sites, museums, and landscapes representing African American cultural heritage. The fund supports work in four primary areas: Capital Projects, Organizational Capacity Building, Project Planning, and Programming and Interpretation.

The U.S. Embassy in Paraguay in coordination with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State are pleased to announce the fiscal year 2018 call for proposals for the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation small grants competition in Paraguay. The Fund is aimed at preserving cultural sites or objects that have historical or cultural significance for Paraguay. Floor on Amount of Each Award: US $10,000 per project. Ceiling on Amount of Each Award: $200,000 per project.

The research remit of the BIAA covers Turkey and the Black Sea. BIAA research engages with Turkey as a crossroads, Turkey's interactions with the Black Sea region and its other neighbours as well as Turkey as a distinctive creative and cultural hub in a global and neighbourhood perspective. The overall focus of applications should be on History, Society and Culture. The BIAA has primary experience and resources, including a first-class library in Ankara, as an archaeological and historical research centre. It prioritizes research projects with a historical dimension, even when the prime focus is on contemporary Turkey or climate issues. In line with the mission of the BIAA as a centre of excellence for archaeological research, substantial funds will be set aside for selected field projects running over a number of years. Currently three or four projects of this type are supported. Applications for funding should fit within the five Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) which define the current shape of BIAA research policy: * Climate and its historical and current impact * Migration, Minorities and regional identities * Religion and politics in historical perspective * Habitat and Settlement in prehistoric, historical and environmental perspective * Cultural heritage, society and the economy Proposals may relate to all historical periods up to contemporary Turkey.

In keeping with the Spencer Foundation's mission, this program aims to fund academic work that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived. Historically, the work we have funded through these grants has spanned, a range of topics and disciplines, including education, psychology, sociology, economics, history, and anthropology, and they employ a wide range of research methods.

The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel awards one doctoral scholarship in the fields of Modern Jewish History, Jewish Literature, Modern Jewish Intellectual History, or Jewish Cultural History per December 1st 2013 or by agreement. The award is specifically aimed at female applicants. Eligibility criteria: - an excellent higher university degree that qualifies for doctoral studies in Jewish Studies at the University of Basel - willingness to work at the Centre for Jewish Studies (apart from possible trips to archives etc.) - willingness to perform organisational and other tasks as part of the Centre team, possibly a teaching assignment Suggestions for a dissertation topic can be submitted along with the application but are not mandatory. Possible topics can also be discussed with the Centre administration if the scholarship is awarded to the applicant. A possible topic could be a project within the context of the intended collaboration of the Centre of Jewish Studies with the archive of the National Library of Israel. The scholarship will be awarded for 36 months and amounts to CHF 50'000 p.a. After 18 months of the intended funding period an interim report by the Centre administration on the status of the project will decide about the continued funding for the remaining duration of the stipend.

The Preservation Technology and Training (PTT) Grants program provides funding for innovative research that develops new technologies or adapts existing technologies to preserve cultural resources. NCPTT does not fund "Bricks and Mortar" grants.
