The Huntington is an independent research center with extensive holdings in British and American history, literature, art history, and the history of science and medicine, with the collections ranging chronologically from the eleventh century to the present. The Huntington will award to scholars over one hundred fellowships for the academic year 2014-2015. These fellowships derive from a variety of funding sources and have different terms. Recipients of all fellowships are expected to be in continuous residence at the Huntington and to participate in and make a contribution to its intellectual life. NEH FELLOWSHIPS offer stipends of up to $50,000 for nine to twelve months. BARBARA THOM POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS are intended to support a non-tenured faculty member who is revising a manuscript for publication, carrying a stipend of $50,000 for nine to twelve months. THE MELLON FELLOWSHIP is for nine to twelve months with a stipend of $50,000. THE DANA AND DAVID DORNSIFE FELLOWSHIP is for nine to twelve months with a stipend of $50,000. HUNTINGTON RESEARCH AWARDS are for one to five months and carry monthly stipends of $3,000. TRAVEL GRANTS AND EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIPS FOR STUDY IN GREAT BRITAIN are offered to support U.S.-based scholars in any of the fields in which the Huntington collections are strong and where the research will be carried out in Great Britain. We also offer exchange fellowships with Corpus Christi College, Linacre College, and Lincoln College, Oxford. THE DIBNER PROGRAM IN THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE offers historians of science and technology the opportunity to study in the Burndy Library and to work in the other resources for the history of science and technology at the Huntington. ARIT / National Endowment for the Humanities Advanced Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT/NEH Advanced Fellowships cover all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history for applicants who have completed their academic training. The fellowships may be held for terms ranging from four months to a full year. Stipends range from $16,800 to 50,400. ARIT Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT Fellowships are offered for research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Post-doctoral and advanced doctoral fellowships may be held for various terms, for terms from one to three months up to one academic year. Stipends range from $4,000 to $16,000. Applications for ARIT fellowships must be submitted to ARIT before November 1, 2013. The fellowship committee will notify applicants by late January, 2014. ARIT LANGUAGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS 2014. ARIT - Princeton Summer Fellowships for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language at Bogazici University, Istanbul, summer 2014. The program supports intensive study of advanced Turkish language at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, including air fare, tuition, and stipend. The application deadline is February 1.

The National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds long-term (four to twelve months) postdoctoral fellowships at AAS, has established the guidelines for applicants. NEH fellowships are for persons who have already completed their formal professional training. Degree candidates and persons seeking support for work in pursuit of a degree are not eligible to hold AAS-NEH fellowships. Foreign nationals who have been residents in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline for the fellowship are eligible. Preference will be given to individuals who have not held long-term fellowships during the three years preceding the period for which the application is being made. AAS-NEH fellows are expected to be in regular and continuous residence at the Society. They must devote full time to their study and may not accept teaching assignments or undertake any other major activities during the tenure of their award. Fellows may hold other major fellowships or grants during fellowship tenure, in addition to sabbaticals and supplemental grants from their own institutions. Other NEH-funded grants may be held serially, but not concurrently.

The M. Louise Carpenter Gloeckner, M.D. Summer Research Fellowship is offered annually by the Drexel University College of Medicine Archives and Special Collections on Women in Medicine. A $4,000 stipend is awarded to one applicant for research completed in residence at the Archives and Special Collections. The term of the fellowship is no less than four to six weeks to begin on or after June 1. The deadline for applications is March 1, annually. A short essay summarizing research findings is required upon completion of the fellowship. This essay may be published in a University publication or online via the Archives website. This fellowship was established in memory of M. Louise Carpenter Gloeckner, M.D. by her husband Frederick Gloeckner in recognition of her key leadership role in the medical profession. This is a competitive annual fellowship open to scholars, students and general researchers. In addition to materials related to the history of the Woman's Medical College/Medical College of Pennsylvania, the collections have particular strengths in the history of women in medicine, nursing, medical missionaries, the American Medical Women's Association, American Women's Hospital Service, and other women in medicine organizations. The majority of the collections fall within the period 1850 to the present.

Through its fellowship programs, the Starr Center supports innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the American past - especially by fostering the art of written history. Visiting fellows find a place where they can retreat from daily responsibilities and focus on their writing projects - but also one where they are stimulated by interactions with students, faculty, and distinguished visitors. The Center's Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship supports outstanding writing on American history and culture by both scholars and nonacademic authors; it offers a $45,000 stipend for the academic year, plus living arrangements and other benefits. The Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown Fellowship is open to applicants from a wide range of disciplines who are pursuing projects on the literature, history, culture, or art of the Americas before 1830. The award supports two months of research and two months of writing. The stipend is $5,000 per month for a total of $20,000, plus housing and university privileges. Click here for more information. CHF offers many fellowships-in-residence, most of which are the result of generous gifts from individuals, foundations, or organizations. Our goal at CHF is to select the best applicants from a large pool and so we do not ask people to apply for a specific fellowship (with the exception of Société and Ullyot fellowships). Rather we encourage applications from all researchers working on topics related to history of science and technology with an emphasis on chemical matters, broadly construed. After an external peer-review committee selects the fellows, we then pair them with the appropriate fellowship depending on the nature of their research.

The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

The Harry Ransom Center fellowship program at the University of Texas at Austin was established in 1989 under the directorship of Thomas F. Staley to encourage and facilitate use of the center's collections for scholarly inquiry. The program enables scholars from around the world to visit the center and conduct on-site research in its extensive collections of manuscripts, rare books, photographs, artworks, and other materials documenting America's cultural history and the creative process In 2020-21, the center will award ten dissertation fellowships and up to fifty postdoctoral fellowships for projects that require substantial on-site use of the center's collections. The collections support research in all areas of the humanities, including literature, photography, film, art, the performing arts, music, and cultural history. Through the program, recipients receive $3,500 per month for one to three months. Travel stipends and dissertation fellowships provide stipends of $2,000. International fellows will receive an additional $500 to offset visa and travel costs. 

The International Research Center "Work and Human Lifecycle in Global History" at Humboldt University in Berlin, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and headed by Professor Andreas Eckert, invites scholars to apply for 10 to 15 international research fellowships (senior scholars and postdoctoral candidates) for the 2014-2015 academic year. Applications are due in Berlin on 31 August 2013. We welcome candidates especially from the disciplines of history, anthropology, law, sociology, political science, and area studies. Applicants should be at the postdoctoral level or senior scholars. We would like the proposed projects to employ a historical and transregional perspective. Also, please do not only focus on work/ labour, but also on life course. Possible topic areas are, among others, the household, loss of work, the relationship between work and non-work, as well as free and unfree labour. We welcome proposals about all regions of the world and especially those that look at comparisons, conflicts, relations between different regions. A global history perspective is not required; keeping an open mind to such ideas, however, is highly desirable. The fellowships will begin on 1 October 2014 and end on 31 July 2015. Shorter fellowship terms will be possible. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend, which can be individually negotiated, and are obliged to work at the research center in Berlin. A fully equipped office will be provided as well as organizational help for visa, housing, etc. During the fellowship, we also encourage fellows to introduce their work to wider audiences within Berlin's scientific community.

The Filson fellowships and internships encourage the scholarly use of our nationally significant collections by providing support for travel and lodging. Internships provide practical experience in collections management and research for graduate students. Fellows as well as interns are expected to be in continuous residence at The Filson. Application deadlines for all fellowships and internships are October 15th and February 15th each year (or the Monday following the 15th if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday). Applications are reviewed two times a year. The Society's collections are especially strong for the frontier, antebellum, and Civil War eras of Kentucky history. The fellowships are designed to encourage research in all aspects of the history of Kentucky and the regions of the Ohio Valley and the Upper South. Applicants should indicate how The Filson's collections are relevant to their research topics and will have the opportunity to present the results of their research to scholars and the general public as appropriate. The Filson anticipates that fellows will publicize the results of their research in Ohio Valley History, a peer-reviewed journal published jointly by The Filson, the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the University of Cincinnati.

The C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience invites applications for its full-time residential writing fellowship, which supports outstanding writing on American history and culture by both scholars and nonacademic authors. The deadline for applications for the 2014-15 Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship is November 1, 2013. The Center's Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship includes a $45,000 stipend, health benefits, faculty privileges, a book allowance, and a nine-month residency (during the academic year 2014-15) in historic Chestertown, Md. Applicants should have a significant book-length project currently in progress. The project should address the history and/or legacy - broadly defined - of the American Revolution and the nation's founding ideas. It might focus on the founding era itself, or on the myriad ways the questions that preoccupied the nation's founders have shaped America's later history. Work that contributes to ongoing national conversations about America's past and present, with the potential to reach a wide public, is particularly sought.

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) scholarly research fellowship program encourages and promotes advanced research on all aspects of Kentucky-related local, regional, national, and transnational history. Fellowships are designed to assist researchers with travel and living expenses while using the KHS research collections. All applications are peer-reviewed by a panel of leading historians. Awards are based on the significance of the proposed research and on the anticipated time it will require in KHS collections. Awards typically range from $400 (for one week) to $1,600 (for four weeks). These short-term fellowships are intended to support serious scholarly work. They enable individuals to pursue advanced study and research in the collections of KHS. Applications are welcome from independent scholars, as well as from college and university teachers, graduate students, and scholars working in other related disciplines. Fellowship recipients are strongly encouraged to submit an article-length manuscript for possible publication in the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society, and are expected to make an informal presentation on their research during their stay and to submit a final narrative report of three to five pages outlining the work accomplished.

The Friends of the Air Force Academy Library have established the Clark-Yudkin Research Fellowship to promote awareness and use of the resources available in the Clark Special Collections Branch of the Air Force Academy's McDermott Library. Awarded annually, Clark-Yudkin fellowships assist visiting researchers with travel and living expenses while working with the Academy library's scholarly collections. Grants range from $1,000 to $15,000. The amount of a given grant will be determined by the relevance of the proposed research to the library's holdings and the merits and significance of the project. Applications are invited from senior and early career scholars, recent PhDs, and advanced graduate students. Recipients are expected to complete their fellowship research within one year from the date of the award.

Special Collections at Smith College offer four fellowships. The Sophia Smith Collection and the Smith College Archives offer the Margaret Storrs Grierson, Friends of the Smith College Libraries, and Carel B. Germain Fellowships awarded in an annual competition. Scholars will hold awards of $2,500, intended to support research visits of four to six weeks.  One Mortimer Fellowship of $2,500 is awarded annually for research in the rare book collection.

With support from the Henry Luce Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies is inviting applications for its Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellowships in American Art. Through the program, ten fellowships of $36,000 (with an additional $4,000 in the form of a travel and research allowance) will be awarded to graduate students at any stage of PhD dissertation research or writing who are exploring topics in the history of the visual arts of the United States. The fellowships are portable and may be carried out in residence at the fellow's home institution or at another appropriate site. Projects should be focused foremost on the art object and/or image and employ an art-historical or visual studies approach. Although the topic may be historically and/or theoretically grounded, proposals whose emphases are predominantly socio-historical will not be considered. Students with appropriate projects whose degrees will be granted by departments other than art history are eligible only if the principal dissertation advisor is in a department of art history. Students preparing theses for the Master of Fine Arts degree are not eligible. To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and be enrolled at degree-granting institutions in the U.S. Applicants also must have completed all requirements for the PhD except the dissertation by the beginning of the award period. The American Research Institute in Turkey takes pleasure in inviting applications for one to three advanced long-term fellowships for research in Turkey made possible by support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The fields of study cover all periods of history in the general range of the humanities and include humanistically oriented aspects of the social sciences, prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics, as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history. The fellowships tenures range from four to twelve continuous months during 2018-2019. Stipends of $4,200 per month are awarded on the basis of individual proposals. Scholars who have completed their formal training by the application deadline and plan to carry out research in Turkey for four months or longer may apply. The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 10-month residencies in one of the 16 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Budapest, Cambridge, Delmenhorst, Freiburg, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar, Zürich. The Institutes for Advanced Study support the focused, self-directed work of outstanding researchers. The fellows benefit from the finest intellectual and research conditions and from the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary and international community of first-rate scholars. EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in life and exact sciences, provided that their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities and that it interfaces with humanities and social sciences. The diversity of the 16 participating IAS offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants may select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions. The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising young scholars as well as from leading senior researchers. The EURIAS selection process has proven to be highly competitive. To match the Programme standards, applicants have to submit a solid and innovative research proposal, to demonstrate the ability to forge beyond disciplinary specialisation, to show an international commitment as well as quality publications in high-impact venues. For the 2014-2015 academic year, EURIAS offers 39 fellowships (20 junior and 19 senior positions).

Thanks to generous funding from the Elios Society, the University Library at California State University, Sacramento is pleased to announce the second of a three-year Library Research Fellowship Program to support the use of the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection by fellows for scholarly research in Hellenic studies while in residence in Sacramento. The Program provides a limited number of fellowships ranging from $500 to $4,000 to help offset transportation and living expenses incurred during the tenure of the awards and is open to external researchers anywhere in the world at the doctoral through senior scholar levels (including independent scholars) working in fields encompassed by the Collection's strengths who reside outside a 150 mile radius of Sacramento. The term of fellowships can vary between one week and three months, depending on the nature of the research, and for the second year will be tenable from July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014.
