Specifically this program aims to strengthen the public health workforce through tailored training and technical assistance involving collaborative, community-based projects. Training curricula will provide skill-based, interactive instruction and quality education using multiple modalities (i.e., synchronous, asynchronous, distance-based, bi-directional video), underscoring the following eight cross-cutting core public health competency domains in the primary areas of (1) systems thinking, (2) change management, and (3) persuasive communication; and secondary areas of (4) data analytics, (5) problem solving, (6) training a "health work force [sic] that reflects and responds to the cultural diversity of populations served" as supported by section 766(b)(1),[1] (7) resource management, and (8) policy engagement. Each PHTC must develop trainings in the three primary areas and may develop trainings in the secondary areas and beyond based on the results from local health needs assessments.
The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 Minority AIDS Initiative: Service Integration grant program. The purpose of this program is to integrate evidence-based, culturally competent mental and substance use disorder treatment with HIV primary care and prevention services. The population of focus is individuals with a serious mental illness (SMI) or co-occurring disorder (COD) living with or at risk for HIV and/or hepatitis in at-risk populations, including racial and ethnic minority communities. The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) is a Presidential award established by the White House in 1995. The purpose of the award is to recognize U.S. citizens or permanent residents and U.S. organizations that have demonstrated excellence in mentoring individuals from groups that are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and workforce. This FOA invites applications on descriptive, basic and translational studies of APOE2 to delineate the functional effects of ApoE2 on healthy aging of the brain and other tissues. The primary focus is on the "APOE2-Aging-AD" relationship and the mechanistic effects of the protective variant on aging and potential interaction/cross talk between tissues in the aging process and AD. These studies are expected to generate new mechanistic insights that involve brain and/or other organs and assist in the identification of potential prognostic and diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for AD and other age-related cognitive disorders. Eventually, the findings from these studies could lead to translational research opportunities not only to prevent or delay the onset of AD, but also to protect against multiple age-related conditions.
The primary purpose of the Rural Access to New Opportunities in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (RANO-WASH) is to increase access to sustainable water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in targeted rural areas of Madagascar. RANO-WASH will expand access to sustainable WASH services; facilitate improved behaviors and use of those services; develop and support public-private partnerships; and strengthen governance at the community, commune, regional, and national levels.
