This FOA provides resources to support (a) pilot or feasibility studies of new or adapted interventions to prevent HIV infection among populations where substance use may be a contributing factor; (b) pilot or feasibility studies of new or adapted interventions to improve the care of HIV infection among populations where substance use is prevalent, including interventions that integrate treatment for substance use disorders and HIV infection; or (c) pilot or feasibility studies to increase the scale, uptake, delivery, and/or quality of HIV prevention or care interventions with established evidence of efficacy. Both primary and secondary prevention will be supported. The full range of substance use will be considered including problematic episodic use and substance use disorders, as well as a full range of substances and modes of administration. The most important consideration is that substance use may affect transmission directly as in the case of injection or may affect transmission risk behavior. Domestic and overseas populations will be considered, with particular attention to populations with disproportionate burden of HIV infection and those where HIV infection and/or drug use are emergent.

The purpose of this initiative is to support health services, intervention, and implementation research to understand and reduce racial/ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic HIV disparities in US women. Projects may address HIV prevention, screening and diagnosis, and/or treatment. Projects may involve primary data collection and/or secondary analysis of existing data.

The purpose of this initiative is to support community-based and healthcare setting-based research to understand the individual, interpersonal, community and societal factors that influence patterns of PrEP attitudes, access, availability, and adherence among health disparity populations in the US. Projects may involve primary quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and/or secondary analysis of existing data.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Curriculum or Methods Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, or the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

The NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21) is intended to support both basic and clinical research from scientists who are beginning to establish an independent research career. It cannot be used for thesis or dissertation research. The research must be focused on one or more of the areas within the biomedical and behavioral scientific mission of the NIDCD: hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, or language. The NIDCD ECR Award R21 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; translational research; outcomes research; and development of new research technology. Irrespective of the type of project, the intent of the NIDCD ECR Award R21 is for the Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) to obtain sufficient preliminary data for a subsequent R01 application. Only one NIDCD Early Career Research Award (ECR) application may be submitted by a PD/PI per due date. Applicants will be considered ineligible for this funding opportunity if they submit an R01, R03, R15 or any other R21 application, with NIDCD as the primary IC, for the same review cycle that the NIDCD ECR Award (R21) application is submitted.

This FOA invites applications on descriptive, basic and translational studies of APOE2 to delineate the functional effects of ApoE2 on healthy aging of the brain and other tissues. The primary focus is on the "ApoE2-Aging-AD" relationship and the mechanistic effects of the protective variant on aging and potential interaction/crosstalk between tissues in the aging process and AD. These studies are expected to generate new mechanistic insights that involve brain and/or other organs and assist in the identification of potential prognostic and diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for AD and other age-related cognitive disorders. Eventually, the findings from these studies could lead to translational research opportunities not only to prevent or delay the onset of AD, but also to protect against multiple age-related conditions.

The Retirement Research Foundation (RRF) recently approved a strategic plan that reaffirms our continuing commitment to improve the quality of life for older people. A centerpiece of our plan is the establishment of four priority areas in aging. Beginning in 2020, these four areas will be given higher priority within the Foundation's grantmaking program: Caregiving Economic Security in Later Life Housing Social and Intergenerational Connectedness Each priority area will afford RRF an opportunity to fund innovative and effective projects that support the ability of older people to live fully in community settings. While the priority areas reflect RRF's primary funding interests, we will remain open to considering compelling applications on other topics on a selective basis.

This initiative will support basic and/or translational research to address knowledge gaps that hinder the development and regulation of bacteriophage used to prevent and treat bacterial infections. While individual phage products may be used to assess the research questions, the primary intent is to increase the overall knowledge base on bacteriophage as products. NIAID offers other funding mechanisms for the preclinical and clinical development of phage and other non-traditional antibiotic products.

This notice announces the opportunity to apply for funding under the Advances in Integrating Genetics into Clinical Care (AIGCC) program. The purpose of this program is to serve as a national resource on the use of genetic and genomic information in clinical practice for genetic service providers, primary and specialty health care providers, and families. The program will accomplish this by implementing the priorities below.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance our understanding about what works to prevent violence that impacts children and youth, collectively referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including child abuse and neglect, teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence, youth/parent suicidal behavior, and exposure to adult intimate partner violence. This initiative is intended to support the evaluation of primary prevention programs, practices or policies that target universal or selected high-risk populations (i.e., populations that have one or more risk factors that place them at heightened risk for violence). Funds are available to conduct such studies focused on preventing child abuse and neglect and at least one other form of violence affecting children and youth, including teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence, and exposure to adult intimate partner violence.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to solicit research to develop, optimize and test mental health telehealth methods (i.e., without involving in-person interaction between a mental health clinician and the patient) to help evaluate and treat emergency department (ED) patients with suicide risk, compared to usual care of such patients in emergency departments without adequate on-site mental health specialty consultation. Primary research questions include if the use of telehealth methods affects the proportion of ED patients who are (1) considered at imminent risk for suicide, (2) boarded in the ED due to suicide risk, and (3) require hospitalization for suicide risk; (4) whether use of telehealth methods affects the rate of within-encounter provision of evidence-based suicide prevention interventions; and whether use of telehealth methods affects (5) the rates of suicide ideation, attempts and deaths, and (6) health care use and costs, in the year after an index ED visit in which a patient was identified with suicide risk. To inform future implementation of telehealth enabled suicide prevention practices in the ED, qualitative data on patient and provider views of telehealth provision of suicide prevention practices (feasibility and acceptability of clinical decision making; clinical workflows; ease of use of technology) are sought.

This NOFO seeks proposals to rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of primary prevention programs, policies, or practices implemented by CDC-funded Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) programs to prevent sexual violence. Research funded under this announcement is intended to expand the evidence base for sexual violence prevention in one or more of the following strategy areas identified in the STOP SV technical package: Promote Social Norms that Protect Against Violence, Provide Opportunities to Empower and Support Girls and Women, and Create Protective Environments. CDC's STOP SV: A Technical Package to Prevent Sexual Violence outlines the best available evidence for sexual violence prevention and is used by state and local health departments participating in CDC's RPE Program to develop and implement programs, policies and practices to prevent sexual violence (https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/sv-prevention-technical-package.pdf). The proposed research is expected to rigorously evaluate practice-based prevention approaches to increase the evidence for sexual violence prevention programs, policies, or practices that have traction within the field, are feasible to implement by practitioners, and acceptable to communities. The research results are expected to expand on, and not replicate or adapt, the existing evidence base in sexual violence prevention. Applicants must clearly describe each partnership or collaboration necessary to conduct the research.

The primary purpose of the AHRQ Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Awards (K01) program is to help ensure that a diverse pool of highly trained scientists is available in appropriate scientific disciplines to address the Nation's health services research needs. This AHRQ program provides support and protected time to individuals with a research doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in health services research. The K01 award can be used both by individuals who propose to newly embark in heath services research training and those who had a hiatus in their research careers because of illness or family circumstances.

Purpose This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites R01 grant applications for funding health services research that improves the quality of care and patient outcomes during transitions of care. The purpose of this FOA is to support large-scale research projects that rigorously test promising interventions aimed at improving communication and coordination during care transitions. Background Transitions of care are the movements of patients between providers or clinical settings which typically occur when primary care providers refer patients to specialty care, or when patients are discharged from the hospital to subsequent care settings. During care transitions, critical information aimed to improve the patient's condition and health outcomes needs to be accurately communicated and coordinated between health professionals, the patient, and the family to ensure that safe, high-quality care is provided and care continuity is maintained.

The primary purpose of the NIH Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Awards (K08) program is to prepare qualified individuals for careers that have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the Nation. This program represents the continuation of a long-standing NIH program that provides support and "protected time" to individuals with a clinical doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in the fields of biomedical and behavioral research, including translational research.

Our grant program has three primary areas of focus: Technology and engineering education: Engaging students in innovative, hands-on activities, such as coding, programming, computer science and robotics to prepare the next generation of innovators. Public safety education: Providing resources to first responders and the communities they serve and supporting fallen first responders' families; Investing in key policing initiatives -  specifically, preparing youth for public safety careers, conducting school safety training, supporting mental wellness and providing leadership training for women and people of color.   Blended programs: Programs that combine both technology and engineering education and public safety education. Within each area of focus, our grant program supports underrepresented populations, including persons of color and females. The Lesbian Health Fund (LHF), a program of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality, was established in 1992 to define, study, and educate lesbians and their health care providers about lesbian health issues. LHF's mission is to improve the health of lesbians, other sexual minority women (SMW) and their families through research. Research areas include: Understanding social, family, and interpersonal influences as sources of stress or support Eliminating inequalities in health care, including barriers to care, and improving quality of care and utilization rates Development and testing of interventions to address mental and physical health needs of lesbians and other SMW, including but not limited to depression, identity related issues, eating disorders, substance abuse, obesity, cancer risks, cardiovascular disease and sexually transmitted infections Sexual and reproductive health, including family & parenting issues The deadlines for receipt of applications are May 15 and October 15.
