The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage projects to generate fundamental knowledge of affective processes. Basic affective science projects should have key consequences for single (e.g., cancer screening) and multiple (e.g., adherence to oral chemotherapy regimen) event decisions and behaviors across the cancer prevention and control continuum. The FOA is expected to encourage collaboration among cancer control researchers and those from scientific disciplines not traditionally connected to cancer control applications (e.g., affective and cognitive neuroscience, decision science, consumer science) to elucidate perplexing and understudied problems in affective and decision sciences with downstream implications for cancer prevention and control.

This UE5 funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is for a part of the NCIs Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) program (https://itcr.cancer.gov/), and establishes an ITCR Education Center to provide education resources that will enhance the use and usability of the informatics tools and resources developed and supported by the ITCR program through education of both the cancer research community as well as informatics tool developers. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development The proposed Center will provide focused education courses in each of the following two areas (1) thematic topics in cancer informatics and (2) informatics tool usability and user support . The courses supporting education in thematic topics in cancer informatics should cover the variety of domains represented by the ITCR program and incorporate ITCR tools as exemplars for applying informatics methods, including, as appropriate, hands-on training on the associated tools and analysis workflows for participants. The courses in informatics tool usability and user support should focus on activities that target the needs of currently funded ITCR investigators, and provide guidance in enhancing the usability and user support of their tools.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is a limited invitation for U01 application for one Coordination and Data Management Center (CDMC) to continue the consortium to study Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer (CPDPC) to conduct and complete ongoing studies on chronic pancreatitis (CP) and factors that increase the risk of pancreatic cancer in patients (children and adults) with CP, pancreatogenic (type 3c) diabetes (T3cDM) and in patients with newly diagnosed diabetes. The CPDPC is composed of several Clinical Centers (CC) and one Coordination and Data Management Center (CDMC) The Consortium since its establishment in Fall 2015 has conducted longitudinal clinical studies with comprehensive epidemiological and biological characterization of patients with CP (including those with Acute Recurrent Pancreatitis, ARP) to gain insight into the pathophysiology of chronic pancreatitis and its sequela: chronic pain, pancreatic insufficiency, T3cDM and the diabetes/pancreatic cancer association. The consortium has also undertaken studies on the development of pancreatic cancer in newly diagnosed diabetic patients. Applications for the Consortium Clinical Centers are being solicited via RFA-DK-19-009 "Continuation of the Consortium for the Study of Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer Coordination and Data Coordinating Center (CPDPC-CCs) (U01) Clinical trial optional)". Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the NCI invites applications to support research in new and innovative cohort studies that identify clinical, lifestyle, genomic, and other factors that affect health outcomes (e.g., morbidity, mortality, quality of life, physical, social, and psychological outcomes) in cancer survivors. This RFA supports research that requires the creation of a new prospective cohort study of cancer survivors that addresses a gap in knowledge pertaining to the health of cancer survivors. Proposals must identify the scientific gap that the study addresses, which may include emerging treatments, less common cancer sites, and/or other understudied populations of cancer survivors with disparities. Sample size and proposed data collection must be driven by the scientific questions proposed and include information from the following five domains: 1) disease characteristics (e.g., type, stage), 2) individual survivor characteristics (e.g., comorbidities, SES, social connections, access to care measures), 3) treatment, treatment-related effects, and follow-up care (e.g. dose, adverse events, palliative care), 4) behavioral and lifestyle factors (e.g., diet, physical activity) and 5) quality of life outcomes (health related quality of life). These domains may represent exposures and/or outcomes, depending on the research questions, and should be measured at multiple timepoints, when appropriate. The UG3 Planning-Exploratory Phase focused on recruitment and data collection/utilization, and the UH3 Implementation Phase focused on completing the research agenda. Milestones to be accomplished in the UG3 phase for transition to the UH3 will be proposed by the PI, with approval by NCI, and must include a timeline for recruitment and show feasibility for data collection and analysis. Recruitment is not required to be completed in the UG3 phase, but reasonable progress should be demonstrated so that all aims will be completed in the UH3 phase.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages transdisciplinary and translational research that will identify the specific biological or biobehavioral pathways through which physical activity and/or weight control (either weight loss or avoidance of weight gain) may affect cancer prognosis and survival. Research applications should test the effects of physical activity, alone or in combination with weight control (either weight loss or avoidance of weight gain), on biomarkers of cancer prognosis among cancer survivors identified by previous animal or observational research on established biomarkers other than insulin/glucose metabolism, especially those obtained from tumor tissue sourced from repeat biopsies where available. Because many cancer survivor populations will not experience recurrence but will die of comorbid diseases or may experience early effects of aging, inclusion of biomarkers of comorbid diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease) and of the aging process are also sought. Applications should use experimental designs (e.g., randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs), fractional factorial designs), and include transdisciplinary approaches that bring together behavioral intervention expertise, cancer biology, and other basic and clinical science disciplines relevant to the pathways being studied.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages collaborative applications that will contribute to the identification and characterization of patients at risk of developing cancer treatment-related cardiotoxicity. The primary intent is to mitigate cardiovascular dysfunction while optimizing cancer outcomes. To accomplish this, methods that evaluate cardiac risk prior to treatment and integrate evidence-based cancer treatment regimens with screening, diagnostic, and/or management strategies are sought. Research applications should focus on mitigation/management of adverse effects associated with anti-cancer treatments including: cytotoxic chemotherapies, targeted agents, immunomodulatory therapies and radiation (that occur during cancer treatment and/or long-term survivorship) as defined by cardiac specific common terminology criteria for adverse events (CTCAE).

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support for the development of innovative interventions that improve cancer-related health behaviors across diverse racial/ethnic populations. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate research aimed at 1) testing new theories and conceptual frameworks; 2) developing and evaluating novel strategies to improve cancer-related health behaviors; 3) investigating multi-level and multi-behavioral approaches; and 4) utilizing innovative research designs, methodologies, and technologies. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support research projects designed to solve specific problems and paradoxes in cancer research identified by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Provocative Questions initiative. These problems and paradoxes phrased as questions are not intended to represent the full range of NCI's priorities in cancer research. Rather, they are meant to challenge cancer researchers to think about and elucidate specific problems in key areas of cancer research that are deemed important but have not received sufficient attention. Some of these "Provocative Questions" (PQs) stem from intriguing but older, neglected observations that have never been adequately explored. Other PQs are built on more recent findings that are perplexing or paradoxical, revealing important gaps in current knowledge. Finally, some PQs reflect problems that traditionally have been thought to be intractable but that now may be open to investigations using new strategies and recent technical advances. The current issuance of the PQ Initiative involves an updated set of 12 PQs. Each research project proposed in response to this FOA must be focused on addressing one particular research problem defined by one specific PQ selected from the list. Projects proposed to address specific PQs may use strategies that incorporate ideas and approaches from multiple disciplines, as appropriate. Transdisciplinary projects are encouraged as long as they serve the scientific focus of the specific PQ chosen.

The American Association for Cancer Research, in partnership with healthcare investment firm MPM Capital, is inviting Letters of Intent for its Oncology Charitable Foundation Transformative Cancer Research Grants program.  A new funding initiative, the program is intended to stimulate high-risk, high-reward research by early- to mid-career investigators and promote and support creative, paradigm-shifting cancer research that might not be funded through conventional channels.
