Purpose: The purpose of these activities is to support the goals of the HHS Action Plan for the Prevention, Care, and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis, 2014-2016 (available at http://aids.gov/pdf/viral-hepatitis-action-plan.pdf) by ensuring Hepatitis B-infected pregnant women are identified so that their infants can receive timely post-exposure prophylaxis, improvements in post-vaccination serologic testing to improve efficiencies, and data collection to assess infant outcomes ii. Outcomes: Increased identification of Hepatitis B-infected pregnant women; increased rates of post-vaccination serologic testing among infants born to Hepatitis B-infected pregnant women; and assessment of factors associated with infant outcomes iii. Strategies and Activities: Collaborations: To maximize opportunities for Hepatitis B prevention through vaccination, referral for care, and treatment of persons found to have chronic Hepatitis B infection, this FOA encourages Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program collaborations and service integration as a program imperative of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. Such collaborations can increase efficiency, reduce redundancy, eliminate missed opportunities, and improve outcomes through the use of shared data and services. a. With CDC-funded programs: Applicants should create and build upon internal health department collaborations to improve identification of Hepatitis B-infected pregnant women; screen their household and sexual contacts for Hepatitis B and complete vaccination of susceptible persons; refer persons with chronic Hepatitis B infection for care and treatment; and report infants, household, and sexual contacts with chronic Hepatitis B infection to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System. b. The Aetna Foundation Regional Grants Program - GoLocal: Cultivating Healthy Communities - funds community wellness initiatives aligned with our Healthy Eating and Active Living focus area in our designated funding locations. Grants will support local initiatives that promote eating fresh fruits and vegetables and being physically active, which can help to prevent obesity and many chronic health conditions. Grants will target underserved, low-income and minority communities where healthy food can be difficult to buy, and where social and environmental factors may limit people's ability to be physically active. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Grants Programs Directorate is responsible for the implementation and administrations of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhancethe safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The Grants Programs Directorate administers the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grants as part of the AFG Program. FP&S offers grants to support activities in two categories: (1) activities designed to reach high-risk target groups and mitigate incidences of death and injuries caused by fire and fire-related hazards ("Fire Prevention and Safety Activity") and (2) research and development activities aimed at improving firefighter safety ("Firefighter Safety Research and Development Activity"). The program guidance document provides potential applicants with the details of the requirements, processing, and evaluation of an application for financial assistance for both of these activity areas.

Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease and is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) with a target of eradication by 2015 and polio free certification date of 2018. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. CDC Director Thomas Frieden, MD, MPH, has designated polio eradication an agency-wide priority through activation of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the last 32 months for global polio response activities. The US congress has included a significant increase in polio funding for fiscal year 2014 with a mandate to work with all government and non-government partners to eradicate polio (Congressional committee records, 2013). CDC is one of five spearheading partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) providing technical and financial support to implement polio eradication activities globally. GPEI has four strategies to meet this target for polio eradication: routine immunization, supplementary immunization, acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) surveillance, and targeted “mop-up” campaigns. Although the entire African region is at risk, polio remains endemic in Nigeria and ongoing outbreaks have occurred in central and east African countries. Until polio transmission is interrupted in these countries, polio will remain a risk throughout the region and the world. This program will support the US Government endorsed GPEI and the Global Immunization Vision and Strategy, 2006-2015. As evidenced by recent outbreaks and WHO/CDC risk assessments (‘Assessing the Risks for Poliovirus Outbreaks’, MMWR, September 2013), public health workers at the local and national level in polio endemic Nigeria, polio outbreak countries in east and central African countries and other at-risk countries in the African region do not have the adequate expertise to conduct polio activities effectively for urgent and sustained polio eradic

Arthritis has a profound economic, societal and personal impact. Medical care costs and earnings losses among adults with arthritis were over $303 billion in 2013.(1) Arthritis affects more than one in four adults in the United States, or 54 million+ adults which will increase to 78 million by 2040, and limits 24 million in performing daily tasks.(2) One in 3 adults in rural areas has arthritis and over half of these have arthritis-attributable activity limitation.(3) Arthritis is significant, not just because of its negative impact on function, physical activity and quality of life, but because it is associated with leading causes of death, such as heart disease and diabetes.(4,5) Arthritis can also limit physical activity, which is recommended management for all of these conditions. The rising number of adults with arthritis and associated pain and activity limitations, and its ability to complicate the management of other chronic conditions and risk factors responsible for death, presents a critical public health problem.(2) Increased physical activity and participation in self-management education programs can help adults with arthritis reduce or manage pain and limitations.(6) The American College of Rheumatology's 2012 osteoarthritis management guidelines recommend exercise as a key, nondrug strategy to manage arthritis symptoms.(7) Adults with arthritis can reduce pain and activity limitations by up to 40% by engaging in PA and other management strategies.

The YES Initiative seeks to support projects that address the HHS priority to expand youth participation in sports and encourage regular physical activity, especially for youth populations with lower rates of sports participation and communities with limited access to athletic facilities or recreational areas. YES Initiative applicants should address unhealthy physical activity and nutrition behaviors in racial/ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged youth, including specifically girls, and provide opportunities to learn skills and gain experiences that contribute to more positive lifestyles and enhance their capacity to make healthier life choices. The YES Initiative intends to identify effective collaborations and/or existing community organizational partnerships that aim to improve physical activity and nutrition by increasing sports participation of racial/ethnic minority and/or socio-economically disadvantaged youth, including specifically girls. YES Initiative projects will develop and implement sports fitness programs based on successful evidenced based practices for youth engagement, using experimental design, and result in the identification of model sustainable strategies that increase participation in range of physical activities that support a healthy lifestyle and improve the overall health among youth who, at baseline, do not meet current physical activity guidelines.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Regional Contracting Office in Kyiv, Ukraine is seeking applications from qualified U.S. or Non-U.S. non-profit or for-profit Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other qualified non-USG organizations for funding of an activity entitled "Support TB Control Efforts in Ukraine." The purpose of Support TB Control Efforts in Ukraine Activity is to reduce the TB epidemic in Ukraine through early detection, appropriate care, and prevention for people living with TB, DR-TB and HIV/TB. The Activity will increase case detection and improve diagnostics, treatment and care for patients living with TB, DR-TB and HIV/TB co-infection. The Activity will be implemented in close cooperation with, and in support of, the National Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Ukraine. The Activity will improve the system for TB, DR-TB case diagnosis, including contact tracing, treatment initiation, treatment completion, and improved data reporting, collection and analysis.

The purpose of ACCESS activity is to build the capacity of Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) actors at the district level and below in all districts in the implementation regions, to design, develop, manage, deliver, monitor and evaluate health services and programs in their catchment areas. The activity will also engage with regional health authorities with limited interventions to ensure coordination, planning and effective management of health activities in their districts. Work at the national level will focus on informing policy, guideline development, as well as advocacy on key health service delivery issues. ACCESS will work to improve the clinical skills and health governance skills of primary health care providers to deliver high quality, accessible preventive and curative health services. To expand the reach of the public health system, the activity will work to improve the skills and motivation of community health volunteers to deliver quality health services and ensure they work under the supervision of their respective CSB. Finally, ACCESS will promote positive health behaviors, including care seeking behaviors in the target communities through a comprehensive and contextualized social and behavior change (SBC) approach and improve the capacity of the MOPH and local institutions to design, implement, and monitor and evaluate SBC activities.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits one five-year grant application from institutions/organizations to serve as the Coordination Center (CC) for the Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) Summer Institute programs This FOA runs parallel with a separate FOA that solicits applications for the PRIDE Summer Institutes(See RFA-HL-17-NNN). PRIDE Summer Institute (SI) programs are designed to provide research education experiences that enable junior faculty and postdoctoral scientists transitioning into academia, and from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical sciences, to further develop their research skills and knowledge to become competitive NIH grants applicants and scientists. The purpose of the CC is primarily to support and complement the activities of the Summer Institutes as follows: * Facilitate outreach, participant recruitment, candidate selection, and program-wide organization * Support and assist with the identification and orientation of SI program mentors * Support matriculants research education experiences through webinar and in person learning activities * Administrate and facilitate equitable distributions of research related resources and activities * Facilitate coordination of research education and evaluation activities between the SI awardees, enrolled participants and the NHLBI * Develop orientation and support other skill development activities for mentors * Support mentoring of program participants by assisting the SIs with the formation of participants' mentorship committees; * Conduct cross-site and cross-program evaluations, including use of data from previous PRIDE cohorts to document program accomplishments, trends and trajectories.

America Walks and generous Active People, Health Nations partners are excited to announce another round of our popular Community Change Grant program. This program will award grantees $1,500.00 in community stipends for projects related to creating healthy, active, and engaged places to live, work, and play. The goal for this year's grant awards is to knit together seemingly disparate threads too often considered in isolation, including, but not limited to; racism and the public sphere; climate and environmental justice; access and inclusion; walking and moving as a mechanism for bringing about political change; and how COVID-19, the need for economic recovery and a growing awakening around racial injustice might alter the landscape of our work. Our desire is for proposed projects to have a particular focus on engaging in key issues of the day with new perspectives and diverse partners/ audiences while highlighting the vital role that walking and transportation patterns can play in a new era. Funded projects must demonstrate that they will show increased physical activity and active transportation in a specific community, work to engage people and organizations new to the efforts of walking and walkability, and demonstrate a culture of inclusive health and design. Projects will create healthy, active, and engaged communities that support walking as transportation, health, and recreation.
