Promoting Resources for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Awareness and Prevention - 0 views

    CDC plans to fund one organization to raise awareness about the risks of prenatal alcohol exposure and improve understanding about individuals affected by fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) as well as to promote the prevention of FASDs and care of affected individuals. The work will focus on five major activities: (1) maintaining a national resource directory, (2) developing and disseminating information and resources to various audiences, (3) building capacity for state and local affiliates dedicated to services for FASD prevention as well as identification, care, and support for individuals with FASDs and their families, (4) conducting media outreach and media training, and (5) supporting a speakers bureau for enhanced FASD awareness and prevention efforts. The short-term outcomes to be achieved by the end of the project period focus on increased access to local and state-based resources across the country; increased access to accurate information on FASD prevention as well as identification, support, and care for individuals with FASDs and their families; improved linkages between healthcare champions and local affiliates; and increased awareness of the risks of prenatal alcohol use through use of presenters with lived experience.

    The Foundation for Women's Wellness, a nonprofit charity dedicated to improving women's health by raising support for innovative early stage research and education, is accepting Letters of Inquiry for small short-term studies with potential for improving medical knowledge in the area of women's health. Through the FWW Research Awards program, the foundation will award grants of up to $25,000 for research projects, with an emphasis on cardiovascular disease, female cancers, the role of hormones in disease, and/or stage-of-life health concerns such as pregnancy and menopause and diseases disproportionately affecting women. This may include disease prevention or treatment; clarification of gender differences; and/or quality-of-life concerns. Priority will be given to projects or studies that have direct clinical application in preventing and/or treating disease, and have the potential to yield results that will attract larger sources of funding for further study and/or influence long-term research and clinical care directions.     The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi (PAS New Delhi) seeks proposals for a project entitled "Gender Equity: Women's Equality, Empowerment and Leadership through Safe Higher Educational and Work Spaces." Through this grant project, the grantee will establish partnerships with five Indian universities/ colleges to organize five gender sensitization training workshops for 125 faculty of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI's) and conduct gender and safety audits at these institutions. Each workshop would be led by an eminent American feminist scholar or activist in addition to Indian experts. The workshops should predominantly be in Tier II Indian cities including one in North India and one each in the American Consulate districts (Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad). As part of the workshop, the grantee will organize and implement a creative exhibition/installation/performance showcasing narratives on safe and gender-just work places and campuses.     The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Professional Fellows Division, of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA or "the Bureau") invites proposal submissions for the FY 2018 TechWomen program to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The exchange program uses a mentorship model to support emerging STEM leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa. Organizations applying for this federal award should demonstrate the capacity to recruit, select, and place in mentorships a total of approximately 100-110 women from select countries in these regions to participate in a five- to six-week intensive peer-mentoring program in the United States. The mentoring experience should focus on advancing the status of professional women in the STEM fields through project-based peer mentorships, skill building, networking opportunities, and enhancement activities. Funding will also support follow-on activities in the participants' home countries that inspire and encourage girls and university-age women interested or working in STEM-based careers, engage young women using technology in their professions, and support former participants of the program ("alumnae"). Special emphasis should be placed on finding creative ways to involve alumnae in strengthening a network of female STEM professionals, building professional standards and capacity, and inspiring the next generation of girls interested in STEM careers by exposing them to female role models. Award applicants must exhibit their ability to manage all program logistics and overseas follow-on programming.

    Woman to Woman, a program of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, pairs gynecologic cancer patients with trained survivor-volunteers who provide one-on-one emotional support and mentoring to women when they need it most. From the moment of diagnosis through the end of treatment, Woman to Woman survivor-volunteers have helped hundreds of women and their families cope with gynecologic cancer. Through the program, one-year grants of either $60,000 (for hospital-based programs) or $30,000 (for community-based organizations) will be awarded to institutions with a large volume of gynecologic cancer patients and a need to provide this type of support to patients. Grants are provided to cover the cost of a part-time program coordinator's salary (can be a new hire or a reassignment), program costs, and a patient fund (no indirect costs allowed). It is expected that each Woman to Woman program will become self-sustaining after the first year. OCRFA will provide all program materials for patients, as well as technical assistance and support, for the life of the program (even after the end of the grant period). Institutions and organizations also will have access to a dedicated section of the Woman to Woman website (under construction) featuring tools designed to assist them in the development and administration of new programs.
