The Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian Cancer Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation, also known as T.E.A.L.®, is accepting applications for its 2018 Medical Research Program. The program, which aids in the advancement of ovarian cancer treatment research and the need for a screening test, offers funding in support of ovarian cancer research studies that are deemed to be most aligned with T.E.A.L.®'s mission by the organization's board of directors and a scientific advisory board. This year, the program has special interest in research related to the p53 gene, although it will accept proposals for other research related to ovarian cancer. In 2018, T.E.A.L.® will award one-year grants of up to $60,000. Project costs must be thoroughly outlined in the budget portion of the application, and grants cannot be applied to indirect costs or PI salary. Woman to Woman, a program of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, pairs gynecologic cancer patients with trained survivor-volunteers who provide one-on-one emotional support and mentoring to women when they need it most. From the moment of diagnosis through the end of treatment, Woman to Woman survivor-volunteers have helped hundreds of women and their families cope with gynecologic cancer. Through the program, one-year grants of either $60,000 (for hospital-based programs) or $30,000 (for community-based organizations) will be awarded to institutions with a large volume of gynecologic cancer patients and a need to provide this type of support to patients. Grants are provided to cover the cost of a part-time program coordinator's salary (can be a new hire or a reassignment), program costs, and a patient fund (no indirect costs allowed). It is expected that each Woman to Woman program will become self-sustaining after the first year. OCRFA will provide all program materials for patients, as well as technical assistance and support, for the life of the program (even after the end of the grant period). Institutions and organizations also will have access to a dedicated section of the Woman to Woman website (under construction) featuring tools designed to assist them in the development and administration of new programs.

The purpose of the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support pilot research projects using a "Traceback" approach to genetic testing women with a personal or family history of ovarian cancer and reaching out to family members to identify unaffected individuals at increased risk for cancer in different clinical contexts and communities, including racially/ethnically diverse populations.

Purpose: Through a collaborative FOA, CDC seeks to fund a consortium of public health oriented national networks to impact tobacco-related and cancer health disparities within specific target populations. The target populations are: 1). African Americans; 2). American Indians/Alaskan Natives; 3). Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders/Hawaiian Natives; 4). Latinos/Hispanics; 5). Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons; 6). Persons with Low Socioeconomic Status; 7). Persons with Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorders; and 8). Geographically Defined Populations with High Commercial Tobacco Use and Related Health Disparities. This tailored strategy is needed to achieve the benefits of an overall population-based approach to commercial tobacco use prevention and cancer prevention and control and the achievement of health equity for all populations.

The Lesbian Health Fund (LHF), a program of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality, was established in 1992 to define, study, and educate lesbians and their health care providers about lesbian health issues. LHF's mission is to improve the health of lesbians, other sexual minority women (SMW) and their families through research. Research areas include: Understanding social, family, and interpersonal influences as sources of stress or support Eliminating inequalities in health care, including barriers to care, and improving quality of care and utilization rates Development and testing of interventions to address mental and physical health needs of lesbians and other SMW, including but not limited to depression, identity related issues, eating disorders, substance abuse, obesity, cancer risks, cardiovascular disease and sexually transmitted infections Sexual and reproductive health, including family & parenting issues The deadlines for receipt of applications are May 15 and October 15.

The Foundation for Women's Wellness, a nonprofit charity dedicated to improving women's health by raising support for innovative early stage research and education, is accepting Letters of Inquiry for small short-term studies with potential for improving medical knowledge in the area of women's health. Through the FWW Research Awards program, the foundation will award grants of up to $25,000 for research projects, with an emphasis on cardiovascular disease, female cancers, the role of hormones in disease, and/or stage-of-life health concerns such as pregnancy and menopause and diseases disproportionately affecting women. This may include disease prevention or treatment; clarification of gender differences; and/or quality-of-life concerns. Priority will be given to projects or studies that have direct clinical application in preventing and/or treating disease, and have the potential to yield results that will attract larger sources of funding for further study and/or influence long-term research and clinical care directions. To be eligible, lead investigators must be an MD and/or PhD with a faculty appointment at an accredited medical institution in the United States. In addition, the affiliated institution must accept the award on the awardee's behalf (with no administrative costs deducted). LOIs must be received no later than June 20. The New Scholars Program supports projects to help early- to mid-career women scientists balance family responsibilities with demanding academic careers. New Scholars seeks to actively address the attrition rate of talented women scientists caused by work-life balance issues.

The L'Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program is a national awards program that annually recognizes and rewards five U.S.-based women researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers. Recipients receive up to $60,000 each that they must put towards their postdoctoral research. The program's partner, AAAS, manages the peer-review process. Launched in 2003 as the U.S. Fellowships component of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Fellowship program, the program aim to: Raise awareness of the contribution of women to the sciences Identify exceptional female researchers in the U.S. to serve as role models for younger generations An inter-disciplinary panel of scientists reviews all applications submitted. The top candidates chosen by the review panel are then forwarded for final selection to a distinguished Jury of career scientists and former North American L'ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureates. The Jury seeks candidates with exceptional academic records and intellectual merit, clearly articulated research proposals with the potential for scientific advancement and outstanding letters of recommendation from advisers. New to the program this year, applicants will also be evaluated in part on their commitment to supporting women and girls in science.
