DoD Kidney Cancer, Concept Award - 0 views

    The FY17 KCRP Concept Award supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in kidney cancer. The Concept Award is not intended to support an incremental progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data are not allowed. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public. Applications must describe how the new idea will enhance the existing knowledge of kidney cancer or develop an innovative and novel course of investigation. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare an application for future research. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 KCRP Concept Award will not exceed $75,000. SILICON CARBIDE HIGH-VOLTAGE POWER SWITCHES - 0 views

    roposals are solicited that show a path for increased current density (at high-efficiency), die size, switching frequency, and blocking voltage (>10 kV) for both low- and high-duty-cycle switches. SiC is an emerging power semiconductor material that has electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties that allow it to far surpass the performance of conventional silicon (Si) power technology, and makes it the prime candidate for next-generation high-voltage switching devices for military, as well as commercial, applications. SiC power devices have been demonstrated to provide greater than twice the power density of Si power devices and at greater efficiency. This program, which endeavors to advance the United States' capability to provide SiC high-voltage high-power semiconductor switches and to identify limitations that must be overcome, builds on the success of previous high-voltage high-power SiC device programs supported by ARL, including HEPS and HVPT, which advanced the previous state-of-the-art and demonstrated performance and robustness at 10-kV and above. Technology limitations/gaps identified by this program may in turn be the focus of more sustained development efforts in the future. Solutions are sought for the development of SiC HV (> 10 kV) semiconductor power switches and diodes.

    The Fiscal Year 2019 Air Force Young Investigator Research Program (YIP) intends support for scientists and engineers who have received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees 1 April 2012 or later that show exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research. The program objective is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering; enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators; and increase opportunities for the young investigator to recognize the Air Force mission and related challenges in science and engineering. Individual awards are made to U.S. institutions of higher education, industrial laboratories, or non-profit research organizations where the principal investigator is employed on a full-time basis and holds a regular position. YIP primary investigators must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident. Researchers working at a Federally Funded Research and Development Center or DoD Laboratory are not eligible for this competition. Most YIP awards are funded at $150,000 per year for three years, for a total of $450,000. Exceptional proposals will be considered individually for higher funding levels and/or longer duration.     The USAFA is seeking unclassified research white papers and proposals (if requested) that do not contain proprietary information. If proprietary information is submitted it is the offerors responsibility to mark the relevant portions of their proposal as specified in USAFA-PASCC-BAA-2016 Amendment 0001. The United States Air Force's Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), in partnership with PASCC, invites white papers and proposals (if requested) for studies in many broad areas related to countering the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has requested that USAF INSS/PASCC issue a call for papers soliciting white papers outlining studies or strategic dialogues (also referred to as Track 2 dialogues). WMD are defined as chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons. With this Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) call for papers, USAF INSS announces to academia, research institutions, and non-profit organizations it is soliciting white paper for studies and strategic dialogues that will help enable the DoD and the USG to ensure nuclear deterrence and to prepare for and combat WMD and improvised threats. The white papers should propose rigorous, innovative projects that: 1. Facilitate critical engagement between U.S. and foreign subject-matter experts (SMEs) on key WMD, CWMD, or nuclear deterrence issues; 2. Address current and emerging challenges facing CCMDs and DoD; or 3. Expand knowledge or develop new concepts relevant to the national security missions and requirements of DoD and the Armed Services.
