    Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

Small Spacecraft Technology Program Smallsat Technology Partnerships Appendix - 0 views

    This solicitation seeks proposals for the development and/or demonstration of new technologies and capabilities for small spacecraft by U.S. colleges and universities in collaboration with NASA. Projects may be for ground-based technology development or development of spacecraft or payloads for suborbital, balloon or orbital space flight technology demonstrations. Proposed projects must develop or demonstrate technologies or new capabilities for small spacecraft that support NASA's missions in science, exploration, space operations, or aeronautics. Proposals must address one of the following specific topics: Topic 1: Enhanced Power Generation and Storage, Topic 2: Cross-linking Communications Systems, Topic 3: Relative Navigation for Multiple Small Spacecraft, and Topic 4: Instruments and Sensors for Small Spacecraft Science Missions. Cooperative Agreements will be issued to the proposing college or university partner. The cooperative agreement award resulting from this appendix will be between NASA and the primary proposing U.S. college or university. Cost sharing is not required. Maximum period of performance is two years, with continuation to Year 2 contingent on progress achieved during Year 1 and the availability of funds. Participation is limited to U.S. college and university teams, including undergraduate and/or graduate students. Projects must include student participation. The Principal Investigator (PI) submitting the proposal shall be affiliated with a U.S. college or university. All proposals must be submitted electronically through NSPIRES by an Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR). Detailed submission instructions are provided in the SpaceTech-REDDI-2016 NRA, as well as the Guidebook for Proposers Responding to a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) or Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) (Edition January 2015).

ecoTech - Captain Planet Foundation - 0 views

    ecoTech™ Grants were created to combat the notion that students needed to choose between "the screen" or "the green" and to encourage educators and students to explore the role technology can play in designing and implementing solutions to some of our most pressing environmental challenges. We believe that technology can present innovative ways to address environmental challenges - and that when dealing with digital natives, we do ourselves a disservice by asking them to unplug. Originally developed in partnership with the Ray C. Anderson Foundation and now funded with ongoing support from Voya Financial Foundation, ecoTech™ Grants are specifically offered to engage children in inquiry-based, STEM-related projects that leverage technology and/or use nature-based design to address environmental problems in local communities. Examples of previous ecoTech™ Grant funded projects have involved: the integration of robotics and sensors to explore water bodies, collect data, and organize clean-ups; the development of aquaponic and hydroponic systems using arduinos and remote sensing; renewable energy design challenges; biotechnology research; nature-based design applications; and many others.

HDR is expected to continue as a priority research area for FY2019 and FY2020 competitions, along with a new priority area to be announced in 2018. The NRT program addresses workforce development, emphasizing broad participation, and institutional capacity building needs in graduate education. Strategic collaborations with the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, national laboratories, field stations, teaching and learning centers, informal science centers, and academic partners are encouraged. NRT especially welcomes proposals that will pair well with the efforts of NSF INCLUDES to develop STEM talent from all sectors and groups in our society (https://www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/nsfincludes/index.jsp). Collaborations are encouraged between NRT proposals and existing NSF INCLUDES projects, provided the collaboration strengthens both projects.

    The world needs more effective, functional and affordable technology solutions to clinical medical problems. With the BMEidea competition, the nation's leading competition for biomedical and bioengineering students, we challenge students to pioneer a health-related technology that addresses a real clinical need. Competition entries are judged on: Technical, economic and regulatory feasibility Contribution to human health and quality of life Technological innovation Potential for commercialization Strong BMEidea submissions define a problem and demonstrate the development of a device, product, or technology designed to solve it. BMEidea awards are presented each year at the MD&M East Medical Device Trade Show and Convention. Competition winners will receive cash awards as well as access to resources to be used for further development and commercialization of their products. In addition, the first place institution will get to display the BMEidea trophy in their winning department for the year.

Prize for a Faculty Member for Research in an Undergraduate Institution - 0 views

    To honor a physicist whose research in an undergraduate setting has achieved wide recognition and contributed significantly to physics and who has contributed substantially to the professional development of undergraduate physics students. The prize consists of a $5,000 stipend to the prize recipient and a separate $5,000 unrestricted grant for the research to the prize recipient's institution. An additional allowance will be provided for travel expenses to the APS meeting at which the prize ceremony will take place and a certificate citing the contributions by the recipient. The prize is presented annually. The prize was established in 1984 by a grant from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, a private foundation for the advancement of science and technology. The prize will be given to a physics faculty member at an undergraduate institution. The recipient will have been recognized as contributing substantially to physics research and providing inspirational guidance and encouragement of undergraduate students participating in this research. A nominee must be from the faculty of a predominantly undergraduate institution in the United States. The nominee's department may offer a program leading to a master's degree but shall not have a doctoral program in physics. Nominations are active for three years.

    The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and VentureWell hold the Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT) Challenge which recognizes undergraduate excellence in biomedical innovation. DEBUT will award a total of $100K to undergraduate student teams working on innovative solutions to unmet health and clinical problems. Revised Criteria for 2020 In light of the social distancing measures that kept most students from entering labs this year, we are modifying our criteria to acknowledge teams that had excellent ideas for healthcare innovations but could not build and/or test/debug a prototype. We also want to reward teams who were able to achieve a working prototype. For 2020, each team will receive an ideation score and a prototype score and the team's final score will be the higher of the two.
