CISE's Division of Computer and Network Systems (CNS) supports research and education projects that take a system-oriented approach to the development of novel computing and networking technologies, or to the enhancement of existing systems in any of several dimensions, or that explore new ways to make use of existing technologies.

The Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) supports translational research and education activities in all aspects of advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) that lead to deployable, scalable, and sustainable systems capable of transforming science and engineering research. Advanced CI includes the spectrum of computational, data, software, networking, and security resources, tools, and services, along with the computational and data skills and expertise, that individually and collectively can transform science and engineering. OAC supports advanced CI research to address new CI frontiers for discovery leading to major innovations, and supports the development and deployment processes, as well as expert services, necessary for realizing the research CI that is critical to the advancement of all areas of science and engineering research and education.

As the nation continues to expand the horizon of opportunities and possibilities through advances in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), the need for a more diverse and well-prepared STEM workforce is also expanding1. The challenge of preparing citizens for the expanding workforce and the changing workplace environments calls for new innovations in STEM education

CISE's Division of Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF) supports research and education projects that develop new knowledge in four core programs: The Algorithmic Foundations (AF) program; The Communications and Information Foundations (CIF) program; The Foundations of Emerging Technologies (FET) program; and The Software and Hardware Foundations (SHF) program.

The purpose of this administrative supplement is to facilitate translational research partnerships between junior researchers with quantitative backgrounds (in engineering or computational or physical sciences) and junior clinician-scientists from active CTSA institutions (PAR-15-304, PAR-18-464). The supplement will support the quantitative researcher, the NIBIB Translational Research Scholar, contingent upon his/her collaborating with a clinician-scientist KL2 scholar, the "partnering clinician-scientist". The partnering clinician-scientist will be supported independently of this supplement through the parent KL2 award throughout the duration of the proposed supplement. Both team members will be selected by the KL2 PI. The KL2 PI will assist the NIBIB Translational Research Scholar and the partnering clinician-scientist in developing a translational research project aligned with NIBIBs research mission under the guidance of their identified basic and clinical/translational science mentors. Based on this project, the KL2 PI will submit a supplement request under this FOA.

Areas of translational research supported by OAC include systems architecture and middleware for extreme-scale systems, scalable algorithms and applications, and the advanced CI ecosystem. Principal investigators (PIs) are strongly encouraged to contact an OAC cognizant program director listed in this solicitation with a 1-page project summary for further guidance. For foundational computer and information science and engineering research, PIs are referred to the core research programs of the Computer and Communication Foundations (CCF), Computer and Network Systems (CNS), and Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) divisions of CISE. Proposers are invited to submit proposals in one project class, which is defined as follows:

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits Phase I (R43) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant applications from small business concerns (SBCs) to develop and/or adapt novel technologies to enable the characterization of human exposures to engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) and to monitor or assess ENMs in diverse media ranging from biological samples to air and water.  

Purpose of Program: The purposes of the Educational Technology, Media, and Materials for Individuals with Disabilities Program are to: (1) Improve results for students with disabilities by promoting the development, demonstration, and use of technology; (2) support educational activities designed to be of educational value in the classroom for students with disabilities; (3) provide support for captioning and video description that is appropriate for use in the classroom; and (4) provide accessible educational materials to students with disabilities in a timely manner.\1\

The principle purpose of this cooperative agreement is to support the use of the best available science, combined with engaging broad public partners, to inform the public, stakeholders, and the BLM on best management practices (BMPs) for implementing adaptive management techniques on public lands. Focus areas of the project include collecting and analyzing rangeland health and upland vegetation treatments data and providing outreach stakeholders on status and trends of resources and effectiveness of restoration efforts and BMPs on the management of working landscapes. Data collected from this cooperative agreement will be available to the public.

Background - In February 2014, the National Park Service (NPS) released new Cultural Resource Spatial Data Transfer Standards (the "Standards") that all NPS cultural resource inventories must follow when producing new data. All inventory legacy data is required to meet these standards in a timely manner. The benefit of using the standards is to create a database of accurate locations of cultural resources so that they can be managed and shared between parks, parks and regions, among regions, between parks/regions and programs and among programs. The standards will help insure spatial data consistency, quality, accuracy and to insure the data is used appropriately. Using location as a way of linking the 15 existing descriptive cultural resource databases together further allows users to explore all facets of a cultural resource in ways that are not currently possible.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to invite applications for a broad range of research efforts in computational genomics, data science, statistics, and bioinformatics relevant to one or both of basic or clinical genomic science, and broadly applicable to human health and disease. This FOA supports fundamental genomics research developing innovative analytical methodologies and approaches, early stage development of tools and software, and refinement or hardening of software and tools of high value to the biomedical genomics community. Work supported under this FOA should be enabling for genomics and be generalizable or broadly applicable across diseases and biological systems. All applications should address how the methods would scale to address larger and larger data sets.

The primary objective of the Socially Disadvantaged Groups Grant program is to provide technical assistance to socially-disadvantaged groups through cooperatives and Cooperative Development Centers. Each fiscal year, applications are requested through a Notice published in the Federal Register and an announcement posted on Grants.gov.

This call, issued to universities worldwide, may be addressed by an individual investigator or a research team. Our selection process is divided into two stages. Interested parties are requested to submit a 1-page white paper, which should identify what can be done in a three-year period beginning January 1, 2019. A successfully selected white paper will result in an invitation to submit a full proposal. These proposals will be further down-selected for research contracts.
