    The purpose of this initiative is to invite SBIR applications to stimulate new and innovative multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) through the development of new combinations of agents and delivery systems to prevent HIV infection and unintended pregnancy among adolescent girls and young women. HIV and unintended pregnancy are two major public health problems affecting young women globally. Combination prevention modalities may be more desirable and lead to better adherence in the end user, especially among younger populations. A viable and effective combination prevention modality would be ideal and critical for these young women who are at risk for HIV and who desire protection against pregnancy.

    The objective of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support the development of new and innovative multipurpose prevention technologies (MPT) with rheological/biophysical properties and product user perceptions compatible with current long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) strategies (look, feel, effectiveness, safety and duration of action) for the dual purpose of preventing pregnancy and HIV infection in women. MPTs proposed for development must be dual indication and prevent pregnancy and HIV infection and have drug delivery systems (DDS) capable with sustained/extended release of both drugs. MPTs proposed for development must use a licensed contraceptive. This FOA requires an industry partner, milestones linked to Go/No Go decisions and year 5 funding requires submission of a pre-IND application to the FDA.

BRAIN Initiative: Tools to Facilitate High-Throughput Microconnectivity Analysis (R01) - 0 views

    The purpose of this Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative is to encourage applications that will develop and validate tools and resources to facilitate the detailed analysis of brain microconnectivity. Novel and augmented techniques are sought that will ultimately be broadly accessible to the neuroscience community for the interrogation of microconnectivity in healthy and diseased brains of model organisms and humans. Development of technologies that will significantly drive down the cost of connectomics would enable routine mapping of the microconnectivity on the same individuals that have been analyzed physiologically, or to compare normal and pathological tissues in substantial numbers of multiple individuals to assess variability. Advancements in both electron microscopy (EM) and super resolution light microscopic approaches are sought. Applications that propose to develop approaches that break through existing technical barriers to substantially improve current capabilities are highly encouraged. Proof-of-principle demonstrations and/or reference datasets enabling future development are welcome, as are improved approaches for automated segmentation and analysis strategies of neuronal structures in EM images.

    This notice solicits applications to support a Telehealth Center of Excellence. The primary purpose of this program is to examine the efficacy of telehealth[1] services in rural and urban areas. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will be located in a public academic medical center that: Has a successful telehealth program with a high annual volume of telehealth visits; Has an established reimbursement structure that allows telehealth services to be financially self-sustaining; and Has established programs that provide telehealth services in medically underserved areas with high chronic disease prevalence and high poverty rates. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will serve as a national clearinghouse for telehealth research and resources, including technical assistance. To achieve that goal, the Telehealth Center of Excellence should have substantial experience operating a telehealth program that offers a broad range of clinical services and has experience demonstrating how their efforts have improved access to care and enhanced health outcomes for their patients.     The purpose of the BRAIN Initiative Fellows (F32) program is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctorates, early in their postdoctoral training period, who have the potential to become productive investigators in research areas that will advance the goals of the BRAIN Initiative. Applications are encouraged in any research area that is aligned with the BRAIN Initiative, including neuroethics. Applicants are expected to propose research training in an area that complements their predoctoral research. Formal training in quantitative perspectives and analytical tools is expected to be an integral part of the proposed research training plan. In order to maximize the training potential of the F32 award, this program encourages applications from individuals who have not yet completed their terminal doctoral degree and who expect to do so within 12 months of the application due date. On the application due date, candidates may not have completed more than 6 months of postdoctoral training.
