    In pursuing a long-term development of high performance LSC, the client seeks a partner that is capable of realizing highly efficient luminescence down-shifting, light-propagation technologies, and prototyping the LSC. Proposals from highly motivated organization are also welcomed that have not worked on a light downshifting at this particular wavelength but are experienced in other wavelengths. The client will provide its development capability, such as research funds, facility, and human resources, to the selected partner, in order to overcome the challenges toward developing LSC with a large collection area.

    The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) seeks unclassified proposals from educational institutions in the United States for a University Center of Excellence (UCoE) in Efficient and Robust Machine Learning (ERML). Proposals must not contain any proprietary information. This center is a joint project between AFOSR and the Air Force Research Laboratory, Information Directorate (AFRL/RI; http://www.wpafb.af.mil/afrl/ri.aspx). The center will extend the research capabilities of the Air Force Research Laboratory, and provide opportunities for a new generation of United States scientists and engineers to address the basic research needs of the Air Force. We will consider proposals for up to five (5) years with a three-year (3) base period and a two-year (2) option period. The total anticipated amount for the award is $4M. Each of the three (3) years base is anticipated to be funded at $1M each and $500K each for option years. All funding projections are based on availability of funds. We will evaluate proposals using peer review panels and the criteria specified in section F. Application Review Information. While AFOSR reserves the right to selected and fund all, some, or none of the proposals, we anticipate making one Corporative Agreement award under this competition.

    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide opportunities for eligible small business concerns (SBCs) to submit STTR grant applications to develop interactive digital media science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) resources that address student career choice and health and medicine topics for: (1) pre-kindergarten to grade 12 (P-12) students and pre- and in-service teachers ("Teachers") or (2) Informal science education (ISE), i.e., outside the classroom, audiences. Interactive digital media (IDM) are defined as products and services on digital computer-based systems which respond to the user's actions by presenting content such as text, moving image, animation, video, audio, and video games. There is a large body of evidence that IDM technology has the potential to support learning in a variety of contexts from primary and secondary schools, to universities, adult education and workplace training. IDM is widely used to train, educate, and encourage behavioral changes in a virtual world format where progressive learning, feedback on success and user control are combined into an interactive and engaging experience. It is anticipated that this STTR FOA will facilitate the translation of new or existing health and medicine-based, P-12 STEM curricula and museum exhibits into educational Interactive Digital Media STEM (IDM STEM) resources that will provide a hands-on, inquiry-based and learning-by-doing experience for students, teachers and the community.

    SPIE is an international society that works to advance an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light. As part of its educational outreach mission, SPIE awards grants in support of optics- and photonics-related educational outreach activities. The society offers two kinds of grants: SPIE Education Outreach grants and Sustaining grants. 1) SPIE Education Outreach grants: Recipients of these grants are required to submit an annual outreach grant report to the society on how the grant was used within ninety days of completing the funded activity. Grant applications should include activities that have not been funded by a previous award. 2) Sustaining Grants: If a program has received an Education Outreach Grant twice in a period of five years, it can only apply for further support, up to a maximum of $2,000, through a Sustaining grant. There is no limit to the number of times a program can apply for a Sustaining grant, but it will be competing with all other proposals every time it applies. To eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or education institution (e.g., university, optics center, science center, primary or secondary school, youth club, industry association, or international optical societies).

    The nasal mucosa offers an effective target for inhaled drugs that either treat localized nasal conditions or quickly deliver drugs to the systemic circulation [1-3]. While nasal spray drug product designs can vary considerably between innovators, most sprays are formulated as either a homogeneous solution or a heterogeneous suspension; in the latter case, solid drug particles are dispersed within a carrier liquid [4]. Despite the many advancements in nasal drug delivery, effectively administering drugs via this route still poses many challenges. One of the main challenges relates to mucociliary motion, which tends to transport and clear drug particles from the nasal cavity after deposition, limiting the available time for drug absorption at the intended site of action [5-8].Many previous nasal spray models have considered solution formulations, where the active drug is already dissolved into a carrier liquid [9-11]

    The International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program supports international research and research-related activities for U.S. science and engineering students. The IRES program contributes to development of a diverse, globally-engaged workforce with world-class skills. IRES focuses on active research participation by undergraduate or graduate students in high quality international research, education and professional development experiences in NSF-funded research areas. The overarching, long-term goal of the IRES program is to enhance U.S. leadership in research and education and to strengthen economic competitiveness through training the next generation of research leaders. This solicitation features three mechanisms; proposers are required to select one of the following tracks to submit their proposal. Track I focuses on the development of world-class research skills in international cohort experiences. Track II is dedicated to targeted, intensive learning and training opportunities that leverage international knowledge at the frontiers of research. Track III supports U.S. institutional collaborations to develop, implement and evaluate innovative models for high-impact, large-scale international research and professional development experiences for U.S. graduate students. Student participants supported by IRES funds must be citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States. Students do not apply directly to NSF to participate in IRES activities. Collaborative Research on International and Domestic Spherical Tokamaks - 0 views

    The major investments made to upgrade the MAST-U and NSTX-U facilities were strongly motivated by an important observation identified in both machines, which showed that energy confinement in spherical tokamaks may scale more favorable than for conventional aspect ratio tokamaks as collisionality is reduced. If the present empirical scalings hold, then STs may provide a much more compact design path to future fusion reactors than conventional tokamaks. At present, the interplay between collisionality, turbulent transport, wall conditioning (e.g., lithium coatings, boronization) and/or density control at low aspect ratio represents the forefront of ST research. The complementary capabilities of the MAST-U and LTX-β facilities allow for this interplay to be explored. Late in the three year period of these proposals FY 2018 - FY2020 the MAST-U facility is slated to utilize strong cryopumping capabilities in its world class advanced divertor to control plasma density and hence collisionality. Alternatively, the neutral beam heated and fueled LTX-β will control density using lithium wall coatings, which dramatically reduces the flux of cold neutral atoms that are recycled back into the plasma after their initial expulsion. In addition to plasma performance, the compact geometry of MAST-U and its future enhanced auxiliary heating power will result in exhaust power reaching plasma facing components that is in excess of that expected in ITER. This coupled with MAST-U's unprecedentedly flexible divertor geometry, makes it a world leading facility for the study of power exhaust and plasma material interactions.
