The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support meritorious basic and clinically oriented research in ovarian cancer; clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism. Research projects may focus on any phase of research from basic laboratory research through translational research. The rationale for a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, a clinician's first-hand knowledge of patients, or anecdotal data. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients, in accordance with the overall mission of the NCI.

The overarching goal of the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program (BCERP) is to support integrated scientific research to enhance our understanding of environmental and genetic factors underlying breast cancer risk. This funding opportunity will support a Coordinating Center, which together with a group of individual transdisciplinary projects investigating the influence of environmental exposures during specific time windows on breast cancer risk, will form the BCERP Consortium. The BCERP Coordinating Center will provide intellectual leadership as well as logistic support for the BCERP Consortium. A primary role of the BCERP Coordinating Center will be to identify opportunities for cross-BCERP collaborations and extend the transdisciplinary activities of the BCERP Consortium. The Coordinating Center will also assist in disseminating BCERP research findings and facilitating an internal evaluation of the Consortium.

The Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to provide support for the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with "high-risk/high-reward" ideas that have the potential to significantly impact our understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. The Innovation Award is specifically designed to provide funding to extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding. It is not designed to fund incremental advances. The research supported by the award must be novel, exceptionally creative and, if successful, have the strong potential for high impact in the cancer field. Awards are made to institutions for support of the Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Investigators. All awards are approved by the Board of Directors of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation acting upon the recommendation of the Innovation Award Committee.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites cooperative agreement (U54) applications for the implementation of Comprehensive Partnerships between institutions serving underserved health disparity populations and underrepresented students (ISUPS) and NCI-designated Cancer Centers (CC). The purpose of this limited competition funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to continue fostering and supporting intensive collaborations among investigators at ISUPS and CCs in order to develop stronger national cancer programs aimed at understanding the reasons behind the significant cancer disparities and related impacts on these populations. This FOA is intended for: (1) supporting active Comprehensive Partnerships under the U54 mechanism or inactive Comprehensive Partnerships but formerly supported by the U54 mechanism; and (2) elevating the promising U56 partnerships and other similar partnerships to the comprehensive status.

The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications for targeted infrastructure support of the core functions of Cancer Epidemiology Cohorts (CECs) and methodological research. Through this FOA, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) will support infrastructure and core functions for existing or new CECs. This FOA will also lead to support of core functions for CECs currently funded through other grant mechanisms by the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP) and other components of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the NCI. 

The intent of the Breakthrough Award is to support promising research that has high potential to lead to or make breakthroughs in breast cancer. The critical components of this award mechanism are: Impact: Research supported by the Breakthrough Award will have the potential for a major impact and accelerate progress toward ending breast cancer. The impact may be near-term or long-term, but must be significant and move beyond an incremental advancement. Applications must articulate the pathway to making a clinical impact for individuals with, or at risk for, breast cancer, even if clinical impact is not an immediate outcome. Research Scope: Research proposed under this award mechanism may be small- to large-scale projects, at different stages of idea and research development. Two different funding levels, based on the scope of the research, are available under this Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity. An additional funding level, Funding Level 3, is available under a different Program Announcement (W81XWH-15-BCRP-BREAKTHROUGH2_FL3). It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to select the funding level that is most appropriate for the research proposed. These scientists, such as researchers within a core/shared resource/central scientific support, are vital to sustaining the biomedical research enterprise. Through this limited competition Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) solicits a single application for the continuation of the AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR). The eligible applicant institutions (which are the two current NCI-supported ACSR lead institutions) are expected to maintain the cooperative group structure and the activities of the ACSR. The primary objective of the ACSR will be to acquire, store, and equitably distribute tumor tissues, biological fluids, and associated demographic data from patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated malignancies. In addition to serving acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and cancer researchers at large, the ACSR will specifically provide biorepository functions for another NCI supported initiative, the AIDS Malignancy Consortium (AMC). The AMC performs clinical trials research in the treatment and prevention of HIV-associated malignancies in the United States and Sub-Saharan Africa. As the AMC is currently expanding its agenda to include Latin America, it is expected that the ACSR will collaborate with the AMC to develop regional biorepository support for AMC activities in Latin American countries. The continuing ACSR must have appropriate strategies and capabilities to address several high priority areas of specimen acquisition including specific types of cancer (AIDS-defining as well as non-AIDS defining), types of biospecimens and accompanying clinical data, and biospecimens from geographic areas of interest.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support the planning and development of translational research programs focused upon cancer health disparities research. The P20 grants supported by this FOA are expected to expand into comprehensive translational research programs focused upon cancer health disparities and ultimately compete for P50 awards under the umbrella of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) "Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs)". Each P20 Program proposed must include the following components: Research Program (at least two translational research projects are required); Administrative Core; Shared Resource Facility (Biospecimen/Pathology Core is required); and Developmental Research Program. The research supported through the P20 Program must be translational in nature and must focus upon knowledge of human biology with a translational human endpoint proposed. The proposed research theme for the P20 Program must be focused on addressing disparities in cancer incidence, prevalence, mortality, survivorship, and/or burden of cancer, or related health conditions, that are well documented among racial/ethnic minority populations. Projects may focus on a wide range of research areas including prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, epidemiology and/or cancer control, and are expected to have clear translational potential to advance research findings to applications relevant for clinical practice and/or healthcare settings.

The FY19 PRCRP Translational Team Science Award (TTSA) supports hypothesis-driven translational studies. These studies should be associated with a clinical trial. The proposed project should focus on research for the next-phase clinical trial or future clinical application. The TTSA is intended to support advanced translational studies that are based on results from clinical investigations. While funding for clinical trials is allowed, the TTSA is intended to support multi-investigator, multidisciplinary teams to perform clinical research studies and not only to fund a clinical trial. Research projects funded by the TTSA should address critical knowledge gaps in clinical outcomes, validate key research results, expand upon potentially game-changing results, or investigate novel clinical findings. New for FY19: The FY19 PRCRP TTSA Areas of Emphasis (strongly encouraged but not required): · Interventions to improve quality of life for cancer patients and/or survivors · Cancer prevention or early detection · Understanding metastatic disease to improve outcomes

The When Everyone Survives Foundation was founded to advance cures and treatment for leukemia through support for innovative research. To that end, the foundation has issued its 2018 Request for Proposals for leukemia research. One-year grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded in support of innovative laboratory, translational, or clinical research related to acute leukemia. Renewal of initial research support may be considered for one or more additional years based on productivity. New and established investigators are eligible to apply.

The FY17 KCRP Concept Award supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in kidney cancer. The Concept Award is not intended to support an incremental progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data are not allowed. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public. Applications must describe how the new idea will enhance the existing knowledge of kidney cancer or develop an innovative and novel course of investigation. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare an application for future research. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 KCRP Concept Award will not exceed $75,000. he NIH Research Education Cooperative Agreements Program (UE5) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.  The overarching goal of this National Cancer Institute (NCI) UE5  program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical cancer research needs. This UE5 funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is a part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) initiative to establish the "NCI Awardee Skills Development Consortium (NASDC)."  The major objective of this initiative is to provide opportunities for current NCI grantees, especially those who are junior faculty (e.g., assistant professors, instructors, research scientists, or equivalent), to enhance their skills in areas that are critical for establishing and maintaining successful independent academic cancer research careers. To accomplish the stated overarching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development.  Such courses should contain innovative, state-of-the-art, evidence-based scientific and/or educational content that is essential to meet the academic career development needs of NCI-funded, junior faculty investigators.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits grant applications proposing exploratory research projects focused on further development and validation of emerging technologies that improve the quality of the samples used for cancer research or clinical care. This includes new capabilities to address issues related to pre-analytical degradation of targeted analytes during the collection, processing, handling, and/or storage of cancer-relevant biospecimens. This FOA solicits R33 applications where major feasibility gaps for the technology or methodology have been overcome, as demonstrated with supportive preliminary data, but still requires further development and rigorous validation to encourage adoption by the research community. The overall goal is to support the development of highly innovative technologies capable of maximizing or otherwise interrogating the quality and utility of biological samples used for downstream analyses. This FOA will support the development of tools, devices, instrumentation, and associated methods to preserve or protect sample integrity, or establish verification criteria for quality assessment/quality control and handling under diverse conditions. These technologies are expected to accelerate and/or enhance research in cancer biology, early detection and screening, clinical diagnosis, treatment, epidemiology, or address issues associated with cancer health disparities, by reducing pre-analytical variations that affect biospecimen sample quality. This funding opportunity is part of a broader NCI-sponsored Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) Program.

The OCRP Pilot Award supports the exploration of innovative concepts or theories in ovarian cancer that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field forward. The proposed research must demonstrate a clear focus on ovarian cancer (e.g., using tissues, cell lines, datasets, or appropriate animal models). The proposed research should include a testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and serve as a catalyst to expand or modify current thinking about and/or approaches in ovarian cancer. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public. Inclusion of preliminary data is not required, but allowed. The strength of the application should be based on sound scientific rationale and logical reasoning. The outcome of research supported by this award should be the generation of robust preliminary data that can be used as a foundation for future research projects. Clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism.

SC hereby invites grant applications for support under the Early Career Research Program in the following program areas: Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR); Biological and Environmental Research (BER); Basic Energy Sciences (BES), Fusion Energy Sciences (FES); High Energy Physics (HEP), and Nuclear Physics (NP). The purpose of this program is to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by SC.

This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation. Applications must describe how the new idea will enhance the existing knowledge of lung cancer or develop an innovative and novel course of investigation. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at Department of Defense (DoD) military treatment facilities and laboratories, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare an application for future research.
