The FY19 PRCRP Translational Team Science Award (TTSA) supports hypothesis-driven translational studies. These studies should be associated with a clinical trial. The proposed project should focus on research for the next-phase clinical trial or future clinical application. The TTSA is intended to support advanced translational studies that are based on results from clinical investigations. While funding for clinical trials is allowed, the TTSA is intended to support multi-investigator, multidisciplinary teams to perform clinical research studies and not only to fund a clinical trial. Research projects funded by the TTSA should address critical knowledge gaps in clinical outcomes, validate key research results, expand upon potentially game-changing results, or investigate novel clinical findings. New for FY19: The FY19 PRCRP TTSA Areas of Emphasis (strongly encouraged but not required): · Interventions to improve quality of life for cancer patients and/or survivors · Cancer prevention or early detection · Understanding metastatic disease to improve outcomes

The FY19 LCRP Career Development Award supports early-career, independent investigators to conduct impactful research under the mentorship of an experienced lung cancer researcher as an opportunity to obtain the funding, mentoring, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of lung cancer research. This award is intended to support impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at Department of Defense (DoD) military treatment facilities and laboratories, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged.

The Physician Research Award supports a mentored research experience to prepare physicians with clinical duties and/or responsibilities for productive careers in prostate cancer research. The mentored physician is considered the Principal Investigator (PI) of the application. This award emphasizes equally the quality of the proposed research project and the career development of the PI, which should prepare physicians for careers in basic, population science, translational, or clinical prostate cancer research. All applications for the Physician Research Award are to be written by the PI, with appropriate direction from the Mentor(s).

The FY17 KCRP Concept Award supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in kidney cancer. The Concept Award is not intended to support an incremental progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data are not allowed. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public. Applications must describe how the new idea will enhance the existing knowledge of kidney cancer or develop an innovative and novel course of investigation. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare an application for future research. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 KCRP Concept Award will not exceed $75,000. This FOA will invite U01 applications in the specific area of cancer immunotherapy-related adverse events. Investigators are encouraged to submit applications that focus on mechanisms of immune reactivity/tolerance and/or autoimmune pathways that could be applied to improving immunotherapeutic approaches while simultaneously eliminating or reducing the severity of inflammatory or autoimmune responses. A related area of interest is studies designed to enhance the target specificity of immunotherapeutic reagents, to reduce or prevent irAEs. An additional synergistic focus of interest is the identification of predictive biomarkers of cancer patients at risk for developing irAEs. Understanding risk factors for developing an irAE would better inform patient stratification at the start of therapy and influence clinical monitoring. Achieving the goals of the RFA should establish a deeper understanding of the origins and activation pathways leading to inflammatory or autoimmune adverse events that currently limit the use of various immunotherapy regimens in patients.

The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support high-impact research that has the potential to make an important contribution to ovarian cancer or patient/survivor care. Research projects may focus on any phase of research, from basic laboratory research through translational research, excluding clinical trials. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications that strengthen the science of multilevel effects of cancer care interventions by addressing the problem of incomplete follow-up to abnormal screening tests for breast, colorectal, cervical and lung cancers. The goals of this FOA are two-fold. First, this FOA seeks to advance the science of multilevel interventions in three ways: a) by establishing a common conceptualization of levels and the associated level-specific factors that affect practice; b) by standardizing metrics of the levels and their main effects on other levels and the individuals needing follow-up care; and c) by developing and standardizing the analysis of the effect of interventions on the individuals, groups, and organizations responsible for intervention implementation. Second, this FOA encourages applications that test interventions to improve the follow-up of abnormal screening in one or more ways, including: a) measuring multilevel effects of single-level interventions; b) comparing single vs. multilevel interventions; and c) testing multilevel interventions.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate research on the perceptual and cognitive processes underlying the performance of cancer image observers in radiology and pathology, in order to improve the accuracy of cancer detection and diagnosis.

The BCRP Distinguished Investigator Award enables established visionary leaders from any field to pursue innovative ideas that could accelerate progress toward ending breast cancer. These individuals should be exceptionally talented researchers who have shown that they are leaders in their field(s) through extraordinary creativity, vision, and productivity. The Principal Investigator (PI) is expected to have a renowned reputation as a researcher who has made groundbreaking contributions to advancing his/her field. He/she should have demonstrated success at forming and leading effective partnerships and collaborations. Through his/her distinguished record of research and leadership, the PI should demonstrate the potential to make unique and significant advances in breast cancer.The central feature of the Distinguished Investigator Award is that the PI must propose research that is a fundamental, conceptual shift from his/her track record of research and addresses one or more BCRP overarching challenge(s).

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of exploratory/developmental research grant (R21) applications for cancer epidemiologic research. The overarching goal is to provide support to promote the early and conceptual stages of research efforts on novel scientific ideas that have the potential to substantially advance population-based cancer research, such as improving data collection methods, developing and validating methods of exposures and biological effects, such as epigenetics and metabolomics, and their application in population-based research, functional assessment of genetic variants, and assessing recruitment methods for understudied populations.

Personnel on the proposed team should have a strong background in kidney cancer research.

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation's grant program provides funding for innovative research focused on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer. The Foundation encourages applications for projects investigating a wide variety of research topics.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA), issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supports small research projects on cancer that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to fund research on HIV-associated cancers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) through collaborative efforts between investigators in United States (U.S.) and investigators in LMICs. The FOA will also support the enhancement of research capacity of LMIC institutions for research in this area. The FOA solicits applications for Specialized Center Cooperative Agreements (U54) for research on HIV-associated cancers from research institutions in the U.S. and LMICs.  Each application is required to propose between two to three research projects that address high-priority questions relevant to both the LMIC and the NIH HIV/AIDS research agenda.  The proposed projects may range, as appropriate, from basic research to translational efforts as well as population and implementation studies.

As part of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (Kids First), the NIH invites applications to use submit samples from pediatric cohorts for whole genome sequencing at a Kids First-supported sequencing center. Applicants are encouraged to propose sequencing of existing pediatric cancer cohorts to elucidate the genetic contribution to childhood cancers, or to expand the range of disorders included within the Kids First Data Resource to investigate the genetic etiology of structural birth defects.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications that seek to apply one or more innovative methodologies in communication research across the cancer control continuum, from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, to end of life. Applications to this FOA should utilize one or more of the following analytic approaches, methods, and data sources, including but not limited to social media data mining, Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, online social network analysis, crowdsourcing research tools (e.g., mTurk), online search data, Ecological Momentary Assessment, neuroscience and biobehavioral approaches to communication, and geographic information systems. Studies should assess outcomes related to cancer prevention and control (e.g., knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, perceived risk, decision making in screening and treatment, information inequalities, social support, shared decision making, persuasion, caregiving, behavioral intentions, preventive behaviors, and policy support, among others). This FOA utilizes the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) mechanism, which supports investigation of novel scientific ideas or new model systems, tools, or technologies that have the potential for significant impact on biomedical or biobehavioral research.

The aim of the CDA is to support the next generation of researchers and to significantly improve outcomes and quality of life for breast cancer patients. The award will provide up to $100,000 per year for two years to be combined with matching funds or in kind contribution from the applicant's institution. Neither ASTRO nor BCRF will pay indirect costs as part of this award. One award will be funded. Research must be focused on understanding or treatment of breast cancer and include use or impact of radiation treatment.
