The Investigator-Initiated Translational Research Award (IITRA) supports translational research that will develop promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications. Translational research may be defined as an integration of basic science and clinical observations. Observations that drive a research idea may originate from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician's firsthand knowledge of patient care. The ultimate goal of translational research is to move a concept or observation forward into clinical application. However, Principal Investigators (PIs) should not view translational research as a one-way continuum from bench to bedside. The research plan must involve a reciprocal flow of ideas and information between basic and clinical science. This mechanism is intended to fund a broad range of translational studies, including, but not limited to, the following: * Studies advancing/translating in vitro and/or animal studies to applications with human samples/cohorts. * Late-stage preclinical work leading to/preparing for a clinical trial, e.g., Investigational New Drug (IND) application submission. * Correlative studies that are associated with an ongoing or completed clinical trial and projects that develop endpoints for clinical trials. Preliminary data to support the feasibility of the research hypotheses and research approaches are required; however, these data do not necessarily need to be derived from studies of lung cancer.

The PRCRP Career Development Award supports independent, early-career investigators to conduct impactful research with the mentorship of an experienced cancer researcher (i.e., the Designated Mentor) as an opportunity to obtain the funding, guidance, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of cancer research. This award supports impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Under this award mechanism, the early-career investigator is considered the Principal Investigator (PI), and the application should focus on the PI's research and career development. It should be clear that the proposed research is intellectually designed by the PI and not a product of the Designated Mentor.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to stimulate translation of scientific discoveries and engineering developments in imaging or spectroscopic technologies into methods or tools that address problems in cancer biology, risk of cancer development, diagnosis, treatment, and/or disease status.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for P50 Research Center Grants for Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs). The program will fund P50 SPORE grants to support state-of-the-art investigator-initiated translational research that will contribute to improved prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of an organ-specific cancer (or a related group of cancers). SPOREs are expected not only to conduct a wide spectrum of research activities, but also to contribute significantly to the development of specialized shared resources Core facilities (Cores), improved research model systems, and collaborative research projects with other institutions. The research supported through this program must be translational in nature and must always be focused upon knowledge of human biology stemming from research using cellular, molecular, structural, biochemical, and/or genetic experimental approaches with the goal of a translational human endpoint within the project period of the grant. In addition, SPOREs must include both a Developmental Research Program for pilot studies and a Career Development Program to foster careers in organ-based translational science.

The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support meritorious basic and clinically oriented research in ovarian cancer; clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism. Research projects may focus on any phase of research from basic laboratory research through translational research. The rationale for a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, a clinician's first-hand knowledge of patients, or anecdotal data. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project.

The Idea Development Award promotes new ideas that are still in the early stages of development and have the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation. This award supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress toward eradicating deaths from lung cancer. Applications should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at military treatment facilities, military labs, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged. New Investigators: The FY15 Idea Development Award mechanism encourages applications from independent investigators in the early stages of their careers (i.e., within 10 years of their first faculty appointment, or equivalent). The New Investigator category is designed to allow applicants early in their faculty appointments to compete for funding separately from established investigators. Applications from New Investigators and Established Investigators will be peer and programmatically reviewed separately. Principal Investigators (PIs) using the New Investigator category are strongly encouraged to strengthen their applications by collaborating with investigators experienced in lung cancer research and/or possessing other relevant expertise. It is the responsibility of the applicant to describe how the included collaboration will augment the PI's expertise to best address the research question. All applicants for the New Investigator category must meet specific eligibility criteria as described in Section I.D., Eligibility Information.

Grants awarded by Ohio Cancer Research Associates are made to support research activities broadly related to cancer and leukemia. Certain types of projects are not recommended for support. Among these are purely clinical work of a non-research nature and requests for the sole purpose of equipping a laboratory.   All studies carried out as part of the proposed project must meet standards of informed consent for human subjects and/or proper care for animal subjects. Institutional approval of all research protocols involving human subjects or animal subjects must accompany the grant application.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications that strengthen the science of multilevel effects of cancer care interventions by addressing the problem of incomplete follow-up to abnormal screening tests for breast, colorectal, cervical and lung cancers. The goals of this FOA are two-fold. First, this FOA seeks to advance the science of multilevel interventions in three ways: a) by establishing a common conceptualization of levels and the associated level-specific factors that affect practice; b) by standardizing metrics of the levels and their main effects on other levels and the individuals needing follow-up care; and c) by developing and standardizing the analysis of the effect of interventions on the individuals, groups, and organizations responsible for intervention implementation. Second, this FOA encourages applications that test interventions to improve the follow-up of abnormal screening in one or more ways, including: a) measuring multilevel effects of single-level interventions; b) comparing single vs. multilevel interventions; and c) testing multilevel interventions.

Specifically, the FOA solicits applications for projects to adapt, apply, and validate existing or emerging technologies into a new generation of user-friendly, low-cost technologies for imaging, detecting, diagnosing, preventing, and/or treating cancers in humans living in LMICs.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits research projects focused on the process of effective communication of research findings about breast cancer and the environment. A central objective of this new initiative is to ensure effective translation of findings that result in risk messaging that is understood by targeted audiences.  The ultimate goal is to provide the scientific evidence for developing communication-based prevention efforts to reduce the risk for breast cancer from environmental factors.

A central objective of this new initiative is to ensure that risk messaging is designed for dissemination and effectively implemented, and leads to individual behavior change or policy change.The ultimate goal is to provide the development, dissemination, and implementation communication-based prevention efforts to reduce the risk for breast cancer from environmental factors.

The RAN grant provides a total of $1 million to pancreatic cancer research projects that include a clinical project designed to improve the prevention, detection/diagnosis/ prognosis, treatment, or supportive care for pancreatic cancer.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications to establish research teams of the Small-Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) Consortium to conduct research whose overall goals are: 1) to improve SCLC therapeutics, focusing on understanding how the molecular vulnerabilities of this cancer could be used to develop targeted agent combinations; and/or, 2) to gain a better understanding of the rapid development of clinical resistance to drug and radiation therapy.

As part of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (Kids First), the NIH invites applications to submit samples from pediatric cohorts for whole genome sequencing at a Kids First-supported sequencing center. Applicants are encouraged to propose sequencing of existing pediatric cancer cohorts to elucidate the genetic contribution to childhood cancers, or to expand the range of disorders included within the Kids First Data Resource to investigate the genetic etiology of structural birth defects. Whole genome, exome, and transcriptome sequencing may be available for tumor or affected tissue when justified. These data will become part of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Data Resource (Kids First Data Resource) for the pediatric research community.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate the design, conduct, and completion of clinical trials for improving prevention of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals. To serve this goal, the FOA will support a network of international collaborative sites conducting meritorious and appropriately designed prevention clinical trials in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region via a U54 Partnership Centers mechanism. Each proposed U54 Partnership Center must be based on a collaboration between a research institution in the United States (as the applicant institution) and partnering institution(s) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in the LAC region. The proposed clinical trials should be focused on optimizing clinical prevention interventions among HIV-infected individuals, including immunoprevention (vaccination), screening and triage, and precancer treatment. Each Partnership Center application must propose a Clinical Trials Program that will develop and conduct three prevention clinical trials within the 5-year project period. As infrastructure supporting the Clinical Trials Program, each Partnership Center should include an Administrative and Coordinating Core, a Data Management and Statistical Core, and a Central Laboratory Core. Results of the clinical trials conducted through the Partnership Centers are expected to influence the development of clinical practice guidelines to improve preventive clinical care and reduce the burden of highly preventable HPV-related cancers in HIV-infected individuals.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to incentivize collaborative, multidisciplinary research across a broad area of challenging topics in basic cancer biology. These supplement applications must propose a collaboration between at least two researchers, one being the PI of the parent NCI grant. Awarded supplements will leverage and extend currently funded cancer research in the parent grant.

Impact: Research supported by the Breakthrough Award will have the potential for a major impact and accelerate progress toward ending breast cancer. The impact may be near-term or long-term, but must move beyond a minor advancement and have the potential to lead to a new approach that is fundamentally better than interventions already approved or in clinical development. Applications are expected to identify the breast cancer patients or at-risk individuals who would ultimately benefit from the proposed research.

The FY19 PRCRP Career Development Award supports independent, early-career investigators to conduct impactful research with the guidance of an experienced cancer researcher (i.e., Career Guide). The Career Development Award presents an opportunity for early-career investigators to obtain the funding, guidance, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of cancer research. This award supports impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Under this award mechanism, the early-career investigator is considered the Principal Investigator (PI), and the application should focus on the PI's research and career development. It should be clear that the proposed research is intellectually designed by the PI and not a product of the Career Guide. Preliminary data are not required. However, logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale for the proposed research must be demonstrated.
