Rare Disease Cohorts in Heart, Lung, Blood and Sleep Disorders (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) - 0 views

    The purpose of this FOA is to fund research centers that will establish longitudinal cohorts in rare HLBS diseases to investigate unaddressed research questions using epidemiologic study designs and methods that are appropriate for conditions affecting fewer than 200,000 persons in the US. These observational cohort studies should be designed to provide an evidence base for future interventional studies, including clinical trials; for developing better diagnostics than those that are currently available; for answering early translational questions; or for broader implementation of guidelines for managing these diseases. This program will provide opportunities to advance rare disease research using genetics and deep phenotyping to characterize the disease and to identify disease sub-types; to use data science methods that integrate clinical and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with laboratory, imaging, environmental and -omics data to understand the natural history of disease; to generate data that differentiate patients with the same morphological phenotype but different genetic mutations and severity of outcomes; to elucidate genotype-phenotype interactions and multisystem phenotyping to develop reliable and valid predictive tools to determine who will respond to which treatments and when to intervene; and to encourage innovative methods such as telemedicine to include participants with rare diseases located in remote locations.

DOD Tick-Borne Disease, Career Development Award - 0 views

    The FY19 TBDRP Career Development Award supports independent, early-career investigators in their efforts to conduct impactful research with the mentorship of an experienced tick-borne diseases researcher (i.e., the Mentor), thus providing an opportunity to obtain the funding, guidance, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of tick-borne diseases research. This award supports impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery that may be translational in nature, but are not clinical trials. Under this award mechanism, the early-career investigator is considered the Principal Investigator (PI), and the application should focus on the PI's research and career development. It should be clear that the proposed research is intellectually designed by the PI and not a product of the Mentor. Preliminary data are not required. However, logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale for the proposed research must be demonstrated.

    The Chesapeake Bay Trust, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Department of the Environment, is accepting proposals for its Watershed Assistance - Two-Year Milestone Support grant program, the purpose of which is to promote local engagement inn the state's Watershed Implementation Plan. Through grants of up to $75,000, the program supports design assistance, watershed planning, and programmatic development associated with protection and restoration programs and projects that lead to improved water quality in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, the Maryland portion of the Youghiogheny watershed, and the Maryland Coastal Bays. Projects can include but are not limited to using designs, plans, or project proposals to craft future proposals to the Maryland Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund; developing deliverables that assist implementation of Watershed Implementation Plan Phase II strategies; or crafting proposals for implementation funding through programs at the Chesapeake Bay Trust or other sources of support. Local government agencies and nonprofit organizations working on water-quality projects are encouraged to apply.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Catalyst Grant - 0 views

    The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is accepting applications for its 2018 Catalyst Grant program. The program, which aims to encourage and support junior faculty in the pursuit of pancreatic cancer research and establish a career path in the field, provides grants of up to $500,000 over three years to junior investigators who have yet to secure their first significant research funding. Research projects may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature but must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer. Grant recipients not only receive financial support for their funded research but also are invited to join the network's Community for Progress, a mentorship program that works to advance the goal of increasing survival rates and improving outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients. To be eligible, applicants must have a doctoral degree (PD, MD, DO, DC, ND, DDS, DVM, ScD, DNS, PharmD, or equivalent) in the biomedical sciences (or in a field applicable to health science research) and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral degree. In addition, at the start of the grant term on July 1, 2018, applicants must hold a faculty position with the title of assistant professor, instructor, research assistant professor, or the equivalent.

RFA-FD-18-014: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element modeling (DEM) approach for predictions of dry powder inhaler (DPI) drug delivery - 0 views

     Current product-specific bioequivalence (BE) guidance published by the Office of Generic Drugs for dry powder inhalers (DPIs) include in vitro testing recommendations for single actuation content and aerodynamic particle size distribution, as well as recommendations for a pharmacokinetic study and a pharmacodynamic or clinical endpoint study.  Given the extensive nature of current DPI BE guidance, it is desirable that current in vitro testing for DPIs be more reflective of in vivo performance.  Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element modeling (DEM) have been used to predict dry powder aerosol behavior, including the effects of agglomeration and deagglomeration.  The purpose of the study will be to develop a CFD-DEM model which can be used to evaluate the impact of various physicochemical properties and device performance properties on regional deposition, to identify potentially biorelevant ranges for these properties that may be useful for future BE recommendations.

DoD Ovarian Cancer Investigator-Initiated Research Award - 0 views

    The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support high-impact research that has the potential to make an important contribution to ovarian cancer or patient/survivor care. Research projects may focus on any phase of research, from basic laboratory research through translational research, excluding clinical trials. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY18 OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award will not exceed $450,000.
