The over-arching goal of this NIDCD R25 program is to support educational activities that foster a better understanding of biomedical research and its implications in the areas of auditory and vestibular research. The complexity of auditory and vestibular biology processes provide our hearing and balance function. Interruption of these processes may occur from a variety of factors, including genetic, environmental and pathogenic agents, and often results in the loss of hearing and balance function. While loss or impairment of these functions are most often non-life-threatening, the disruption to quality of life is substantial. Since August of 2007, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) (http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/) has supported a special topics course in auditory and vestibular biology. The two to three week course, Biology of the Inner Ear, has been held at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, and has brought together outstanding faculty to provide hands-on instruction to participants. It is the continued intent of the NIDCD to foster the advancement of research methodologies and technologies to improve, hasten and implement new treatments for these disorders and impairments. It is based on this template of excellence that the NIDCD invites R25 applications for support of a special topics course in the auditory and vestibular sciences. The purpose of this five-year initiative is to support three courses to be offered each in years 2021, 2023, and 2025. This will allow for a sustained specialized topics course that provides lecture and hands-on research exposure to the auditory and vestibular sciences. The target audience envisioned for this course consists of advanced graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and established early stage research investigators.

The purpose of this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to inform potential applicants that the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) have special interest in applications to investigate the mechanisms controlling the resolution of inflammation in chronic disease states.

This FOA encourages applications for research projects that identify and/or validate chromosomal loci and variations in genes that are associated with vulnerability to addiction and that inform the likelihood of responsiveness to treatment. Applications that propose to examine intermediate phenotypes or endophenotypes to assess the molecular genetics of drug addiction, addiction vulnerability and/or their associated co-morbidities and how they are related to drug addiction are especially encouraged. Also encouraged are genetic as well as computational and large-scale genomic approaches, which may include but are not limited to linkage, linkage disequilibrium, case-control or family-based studies, and integration of data from other databases that may supplement substance abuse genetics and genomics data. Data may be collected from the general population, special populations, recent admixed populations, and/or animal models. Secondary data analysis of data collected from the general population, special populations, recent admixed populations, and/or animal models is also appropriate for this announcement. Investigators are encouraged to include, as a component of their project and as appropriate, gene x gene interactions, gene x environment interactions, gene x environment x development interactions, pharmacogenetics, and non-human models.

The P20 mechanism is used to support planning for new programs, expansion or modification of existing resources, and feasibility studies to explore various approaches to the development of interdisciplinary programs that offer potential solutions to problems of special significance to the mission of the NIH. This P20 may lead to center sustainability and/or the ability to be funded through other specialized or comprehensive grants.

The purpose of the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Program is to expand the national capacity for research in the health sciences by providing cooperative agreement support to institutions that offer doctorate degrees in the health professions or in a health-related science and have a historical and current commitment to educating underrepresented students, and for institutions that deliver health care services, providing clinical services to medically underserved communities. The primary goals of the RCMI specialized centers are to: (1) enhance institutional research capacity within the areas of basic biomedical, behavioral, and/or clinical research; (2) enable all levels of investigators to become more successful in obtaining competitive extramural support, especially from NIH, particularly on diseases that disproportionately impact minority and other health disparity populations; (3) foster environments conducive to career enhancement with a special emphasis on development of new and early career investigators; (4) enhance the quality of all scientific inquiry and promote research on minority health and health disparities; and (5) establish sustainable relationships with community-based organizations that will partner with the RCMI Institution.

Hence, rather than utilizing a pre-defined requirements approach, this topic is intended to be an open call for ideas and technologies that may not be currently listed (i.e. the unknown-unknown) under STTR topics, but nonetheless still fit within broad interest areas of the Air Force basic research level. To be eligible, offeror(s) must be teams that have formed companies and partnered with a university (e.g. university entrepreneurship centers, university technology transfer offices). The Rheumatology Research Foundation is issuing a notice of special interest (NOSI) to highlight the availability of funds for projects exploring the relationships between rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) intends to assemble a group of Specialized Collaboratories that will adopt scalable technology platforms and streamlined workflows to accelerate progress towards establishing reference cell atlases of human brain and/or non-human primate brains. A central goal of this and the three companion FOAs is to build a brain cell census resource that can be widely used throughout the research community.

This announcement solicits applications for two (2) separate competitions, HRSA-17-013 Autism Field-Initiated Innovative Research Studies and HRSA-17-014 Autism Longitudinal Data Project.  The purpose of the Autism Field-Initiated Innovative Research Studies and the Autism Longitudinal Data Project competitions are to support the conduct of empirical research that advances the evidence base on interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), with a special focus on addressing the needs of underserved populations.  These competitions will address the critical need that exists for research on the barriers to screening, diagnosis, and receipt of evidence-based interventions.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to invite U54 grant applications for Cooperative Specialized Hematology Core Centers.The NIDDK Hematology Centers Program is designed to increase resource sharing and collaboration in the national multi-disciplinary research effort to combat nonmalignant hematologic diseases.In addition, it will improve cost-effectiveness of preparing critical reagents, maintaining state-of-the-art resources or running multi-step molecular biologic assays.Each Center will support a minimum of three Cores, a Pilot and Feasibility (P and F) program, and an Enrichment program.By providing state-of-the-art equipment, resources and expertise, collectively, the consortium will serve as a national resource for the larger nonmalignant hematology community, as well as for enrichment of scientists just beginning their careers in the field of nonmalignant hematology research.Funded Centers will cooperate with the NIDDK to facilitate research collaborations and interactions within and among Centers and with the larger research community.

The purpose of this study is to: 1) collect information on practice patterns in special populations to assess possible barriers to generic substitution ; 2) compare clinical practice (e.g., drug product manipulation prior to administration, co-administration with another food or drug) with labeled drug administration information in the assessed populations to identify factors that raise issues for safety and effectiveness with generic substitution; and 3) analyze the impact of product-level, patient-level, and provider-level factors on generic drug substitution. The outcome of this study will help identify research needs, support FDA's regulatory science efforts to monitor and ensure successful generic substitution, and provide evidence to assure the public on generic drug safety and effectiveness.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for specialized Alcohol Research Centers using the P50 mechanism. The overall purpose of the NIAAA Alcohol Research Center program is to provide leadership in conducting and fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative research on a wide variety of topics relevant to the Institutes mission. The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to invite applications for the Specialized Clinical Centers ("hubs") of the Early Phase Pain Investigation Clinical Network (EPPIC-Net). EPPIC-Net will serve as the cornerstone of the NIH's Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative. EPPIC-Net will provide a robust and readily accessible infrastructure for carrying out in-depth phenotyping and biomarker studies in patients with specific pain conditions, and the rapid design and performance of high-quality Phase 2 clinical trials to test promising novel therapeutics for pain from partners in academia or industry. Studies will bring intense focus to patients with well-defined pain conditions and high unmet therapeutic needs.

The purpose of the NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award is to support a defined pathway across career stages for outstanding graduate students who are from backgrounds that are nationally underrepresented in neuroscience research. This two-phase award will facilitate completion of the doctoral dissertation and transition of talented graduate students to strong neuroscience research postdoctoral positions, and will provide career development opportunities relevant to their long-term career goal of becoming independent neuroscience researchers.

Reissue of RFA-AR-18-001: The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications for Senator Paul D. Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Specialized Research Centers (MDSRCs). These Centers promote collaborative basic, translational and clinical research and provide important resources that can be used by the national muscular dystrophy research community. A goal of this Centers program is to support important and innovative research in the muscular dystrophies that is best pursued through this interdisciplinary and collaborative center environment, and projects that may not be as effective if supported by "stand-alone" research project grants. The Centers also provide outstanding environments for the training of new scientists electing to pursue careers conducting research in high priority areas of muscular dystrophy. Finally, Center investigators are expected to engage the patient and advocacy communities in conversations to increase awareness of research, encourage patient participation in research and incorporate the perspectives of these communities in the conduct of patient-centered research.

The purpose of this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to: (1) encourage investigators to apply single-cell proteomics for interrogation of premalignant and early malignant lesions; (2) develop new multiparametric biomarkers for cancer screening, early detection and risk assessment; and, (3) establish a biomarkers workflow for a wide coverage of disease variability and individuals at the population level.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications for P50 Research Center Grants for Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs). The program will fund P50 SPORE grants to support state-of-the-art investigator-initiated translational research that will contribute to improved prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of an organ-specific cancer or a related group of cancers. For the purpose of this FOA, cancers derived from the same organ system (i.e., a group of organs that perform a common function) are considered related. Examples of such organ systems include gastrointestinal, endocrine and other biological systems. Other programmatically appropriate groups of cancers may include those centered around a common biological mechanism critical for promoting tumorigenesis and/or cancer progression in organ sites that belong to different organ systems. For example, a SPORE may focus on cancers caused by the same infectious agent or cancers sustained and promoted by dysregulation of a common signaling pathway. In addition, a SPORE may focus on cross-cutting themes such as pediatric cancers or cancer health disparities. The research supported through this program must be translational and must stem from research on human biology using cellular, molecular, structural, biochemical, and/or genetic experimental approaches. SPORE projects must have the goal of reaching a translational human endpoint within the project period of the grant.
