The purpose of this FOA is to support a more efficient method for jurisdictions to de-duplicate the National HIV Surveillance System. The applicant will develop a privacy data-sharing tool capable of identifying potential duplicates across jurisdictions. Activities will include acquiring a Security Assessment and Authorization, negotiating with the 59 jurisdictions to obtain their participation, providing a data sharing tool that will allow for secure, encrypted submission and matching of person-level HIV surveillance data, and providing a report back to jurisdictions on matching levels.

The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (DRIVe) is releasing this ÂœDRIVe Accelerator Network Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applicants interested in working with BARDA DRIVe to stimulate the public good by creating or leveraging a network of accelerators across America to promote national health security innovation. The National Security Science and Engineering Faculty Fellowship (NSSEFF) program is sponsored by the Basic Research Office, Office of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (ASD (R&E)). NSSEFF supports innovative basic research within academia, as well as education initiatives that seek to create and develop the next generation of scientists and engineers for the defense and national security workforce.

The purpose of this NOFO is to support a more efficient method for HIV surveillance jurisdictions to identify potential interstate duplicates. The recipient will develop and provide a secure, encrypted, on-going privacy data-sharing tool capable of identifying potential duplicates across jurisdictions, implement necessary data security, confidentiality and privacy protections according to CDC standards, obtain participation agreements with 59 state and local health department HIV surveillance programs that will allow on demand submission and matching of person-level HIV surveillance data, and report back to jurisdictions on matching levels in formats that are importable into local/state HIV data systems.

The CSBR program provides for enhancements that secure and improve existing collections, result in accessible digitized specimen-related data, and develop better methods for specimen curation and collection management. Requests should demonstrate a clear and urgent need to secure the collection, and the proposed activities should address that need. Biological collections supported include established living stock/culture collections, vouchered non-living natural history collections, and jointly-curated ancillary collections such as preserved tissues and DNA libraries.

The mission of BTO is to leverage biology as a technology to solve intractable problems. BTO seeks to leverage advances in engineering and computer science to drive and reshape biotechnology for national security. To achieve this vision, BTO is interested in a range of emerging technical areas, including but not limited to human-machine interfaces, human performance, infectious disease, and synthetic biology. The overarching goal is to develop, demonstrate, and transition biologically-based technologies as part of the national security toolkit.

Pathway to Leadership Grants support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows in the first five years of their fellowship at the start of the grant term, who have not already secured a full-time tenure track assistant professor position (or equivalent). The grants provide up to five years of support in two phases. The initial mentored phase lasts up to two years, during which time recipients are expected to work closely with their mentor(s) to develop their research. During the subsequent three years, recipients are expected to secure independent research positions.

Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR) provides for enhancements that secure and improve existing research collections, improve the accessibility of collection-related data, develop capacity for curation and collection management, and to transfer ownership of collections that are significant to the NSF BIO-funded research community. Requests should demonstrate a clear and urgent need to secure or improve the collection, and the proposed activities should address that need. Types of biological collections that are supported include established living stock/culture collections, established natural history voucher collections, and jointly-curated ancillary collections such as preserved tissues and libraries of genetic and genomic materials. Biological research collections support essential research activities in the biological sciences. Collections are used to document biodiversity, identify species, understand organismal systems, recognize environmental shifts, explore alternate energy sources, understand evolutionary patterns, and improve agricultural, biomedical, and manufacturing applications. Natural history collections contain records of life on earth that are unique and irreplaceable, including specimens of extinct species and temporal information on changes in the ranges of native and introduced species. Many collections also house voucher-linked ancillary research materials (including DNA and frozen tissue samples, digital images, audio and video files). Living collections play a key role in the advancement and preservation of biological knowledge by providing well-characterized and documented experimental organisms to researchers at modest cost.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the latest in a series of infectious disease emergencies, including cholera, Ebola, SARS, Chikungunya, HIV/AIDS, and influenza. While scientists and drug developers, with support from governments and multilateral organizations, have been rushing to produce, test, and deliver vaccines and treatments, tech innovators also have a crucial role to play, both in the near term and to prevent and mitigate future disease outbreaks. In the near term, the world needs improved solutions for prevention, accurate detection, and rapid response. MIT Solve, through its Health Security & Pandemics Challenge, is seeking tech innovations that can slow and track the spread of an emerging outbreak - for example, by improving individual hygiene, developing low-cost rapid diagnostics, analyzing data that informs decision making, and providing tools that protect health workers.

The overarching goals of this program are to (i) prepare, nurture, and grow the national scientific research workforce for creating, utilizing, and supporting advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) that enables potentially transformative fundamental science and engineering research and contributes to the Nation's overall economic competiveness and security; (ii) ensure broad adoption of CI tools, methods, and resources by the fundamental science and engineering research community to enable new modes of discovery; and (iii) integrate core literacy and discipline-appropriate advanced skills in advanced CI as well as computational and data science and engineering into the Nation's educational curriculum/instructional material fabric spanning undergraduate and graduate courses. For the purpose of this solicitation, advanced CI is broadly defined as the set of resources, tools, and services for advanced computation, data handling, networking, and security that collectively enable potentially transformative fundamental research.

JDRF is launching an initiative to accelerate the development of "open-protocol" automated insulin delivery (artificial pancreas) systems. JDRF is soliciting proposals from insulin pump manufacturers and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) manufacturers that will enable seamless, secure connectivity with other devices (e.g., by using Bluetooth technology). JDRF remains committed to supporting the traditional, proprietary commercial development of artificial pancreas systems; in parallel, JDRF will launch efforts in the United States and globally to partner with regulators and legal experts to establish predictable approval pathways for systems that allow for secure, open-protocol-based control through commercially developed devices and software

The long-term goal of the program is to develop the next generation of scientists and engineers in the research community who will focus a significant portion of their future careers on DoD and National Security issues. DARPA is particularly interested in identifying outstanding researchers who have previously not been performers on DARPA programs, but the program is open to all qualified applicants with innovative research ideas.

The BioWatch Program is an early warning system that is designed to detect the intentional release of select aerosolized biological agents. The BioWatch Program's mission is to provide and maintain a continuous bio-terrorism air monitoring system in metropolitan areas and coordinate with state and local public health communities to prepare for and respond to a bioterrorist event. This mission is accomplished by serving as an early warning system which enhances the security of jurisdictions by providing the needed time to execute their comprehensive concept of operations plans to counter biological terrorism. The Biowatch Program is a critical part of an ongoing national effort to build and sustain preparedness which helps the United States to maintain momentum through targeted jurisdictional planning that highlights preventative actions necessary to allow for a proper and timely response and begin the process to recovery from a biological agent release.

The Melanoma Research Foundation is accepting applications from emerging and established scientific investigators for research projects that explore new avenues in melanoma biology, prevention and treatments, with the goal of finding a cure. The foundation makes grants in four areas: Career Development Awards, Established Investigator Awards, Career Investigator CURE OM Awards, and Established Investigator CURE OM Awards. Career Development Awards provide funding of up to $50,000 a year for two years to junior investigators who are beginning a research career emphasizing melanoma-related projects and have not yet secured strong federal funding for their research. Established Investigator Awards provide funding of up to $100,000 a year for two years to established melanoma researchers or senior researchers working in closely related fields who wish to move into melanoma research. Leidos will match high-scoring, unfunded National Institutes of Health (NIH) proposals with private biomedical foundations and/or industries seeking to fund promising research. Foundations will have access to peer-reviewed research proposals that directly relate to their funding priorities, industry will have access to a rich pipeline of early stage and translational research proposals that align with its priorities, while applicants with strong research proposals will be provided with a second opportunity to secure funding.
