Through LASER, USAID seeks to leverage and support international university networks, inclusive of universities from both the United States (U.S) and lower-middle income countries (LMIC), to improve development research opportunities, evidence generation, and uptake by development actors and policy makers. As part of the Cooperative Agreement, USAID will support a recipient to identify new research questions, fund research activities, translate research results into development impact, and build capacity of local higher education institutions and researchers. USAID seeks to support a recipient with a defined plan to achieve these goals, with the specific details and workplan proposed by the recipient, in consultation with USAID. USAID specifically seeks to support an implementing partner whose workplan includes the creation, engagement, and/or growth of a large, international network of university researchers, centers, and institutes across disciplines that can 1) independently identify and address new and impactful research questions with high relevance to the international development community AND 2) partner with USAID Missions, Bureaus, and Independent Offices (M/B/IOs) to address unique research needs identified by USAID. Additionally, USAID seeks to increase the human and institutional capacity of LMIC HEIs through LASER.

Social connections can help us thrive. But too many people feel disconnected from society and from life, and that contributes to a host of physical, mental and emotional health problems. School children, teens, new mothers, immigrants, LGBT people, people living in remote areas, even millennials with thousands of Facebook friends, often feel excluded or like they don't belong. We want to learn about solutions that have worked in other countries to address social isolation across all ages and life stages, so that we can strengthen social connection in the United States. RWJF is looking for applicants who represent organizations from a wide range of fields and disciplines-both within and outside the health sector. We encourage proposals from both U.S.-based applicants to adapt an overseas idea, and from international applicants with ideas that could work in the United States. We encourage submissions from teams that include both U.S. and international members. We seek to attract diversity of thought, professional background, race, ethnicity, and cultural perspective in our applicant pool. Building a Culture of Health means integrating health into all aspects of society, so we encourage multisector partnerships and collaboration.

This FOA invites Research and Development Center (P30) grant applications in demography, economics and health services research relevant to Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). Areas of focus that are especially encouraged are: a) national and international population trends in cognitive aging and AD/ADRD; b) demography of dementia care and caregiving; c) economic burden of AD/ADRD; d) impact of health care systems and long-term supports and services on outcomes for persons with dementia and their care providers; e) impact of health care financing policies on outcomes for persons with dementia and their care providers; f) how regulatory and economic incentives affect access, quality and health outcomes in health and long-term care systems for persons with dementia; g) disparities in quality and access to dementia care; h) effects of population-level health delivery and care interventions on outcomes of persons with dementia; and i) national and international projections of dementia caseload, incidence and prevalence. Center grant applications must include two mandatory Cores and may choose among three optional Cores. Centers are required to work collaboratively with the Coordinating Center to be funded via RFA-AG-20-003.

It is a great, international, and competitive contest, which gives an unique opportunity for researchers to move in a new country and develop their own project in cooperation with a local host centre.

This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) seeks opportunities to co-create, co-design, co-invest, and collaborate in the research, development, piloting, testing, and scaling of innovative, practical and cost-effective interventions to address Zimbabwe's Development Challenges. Those Development Challenges may include opportunities to increase the number of Zimbabweans who live longer, healthier lives. The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College works to promote research on retirement issues, transmit new findings to a broad audience, help train new scholars, and expand access to valuable data resources. The center is accepting applications for two funding opportunities: The Steven H. Sandell Grant Program provides funding opportunities for scholars from all academic disciplines and senior scholars working in a new area to pursue cutting-edge projects having to do with retirement income and disability insurance issues. Junior scholars within the first ten years of their academic career and tenured scholars entering a new field are encouraged to submit a proposal. The principal investigator and co-principal investigator, if applicable, are required to have a Ph.D. or comparable professional certification. Scholars must be employed full-time at an academic or research institution. Grants are not intended to fund dissertation research. Up to five grants of $45,000 will be awarded for projects of one year. The Dissertation Fellowship Program in Retirement Income and Disability Insurance Research provides funding opportunities for doctoral candidates to pursue cutting-edge research on retirement issues. Applicants are required to be enrolled in a qualified doctoral program at a United States university; have completed all coursework for a Ph.D. by the time funding starts; and have a dissertation advisor and/or committee. Doctoral candidates from all academic disciplines are encouraged to submit a proposal. Up to seven fellowships of $28,000 will be awarded. Priority research areas for both programs include Social Security and disability insurance, macroeconomic analyses of Social Security, wealth and retirement income, program interactions, international research, and demographic research.

In May of 2013 the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), with input from the National Institute on Aging (NIA), held an Alzheimer's Disease-Related Dementias Conference in response to the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease. The Conference brought together national and international experts and members of the public to develop research priorities for accelerating the development of therapies for the Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRDs). The ADRD 2013 research recommendations that resulted are part of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease. This FOA addresses the National Plan's highest priority for human-based research on vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID): to develop noninvasive markers of key vascular processes related to VCID in Alzheimer's and related dementias. The research program initiated here underscores the need to facilitate the development of biomarkers to improve the efficiency and outcome of Phase II and III clinical trials and advance therapeutic development. These companion FOAs (RFA-NS-16-019, i.e. this FOA; and RFA-NS-16-020 for the Biomarkers Development Projects) establish the Small Vessel VCID Biomarkers Consortium, and are focused on small vessel (i.e. arterioles, capillaries, and venules) VCID in vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), vascular dementia, and all mixed and pure cognitive impairment and dementias with contributing small vessel vascular disease, including such as commonly occurs in sporadic Alzheimer's disease. Awards funded under these two FOAs create a consortium and infrastructure to complete development projects as well as planning that will enable follow-up activities (to be carried out under future separate funding; for example large scale multi-site validation studies and other activities, for future FDA qualification of small vessel VCID biomarkers and use in clinical trials).

The Margret M. and Paul B. Baltes Foundation Award in Behavioral and Social Gerontology acknowledges outstanding early career contributions in behavioral and social gerontology. The award will be given to a person from any discipline in the social sciences. Eligible nominees must have the Ph.D. degree and must not be more than 10 years past the date the Ph.D. was awarded. Nominations are not restricted to GSA members. International participation is encouraged. Nominations made by others or self-nominations will be accepted. The award recipient will receive a plaque and a $1,000 cash award and is invited to present a lecture at the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting the following year.

The Center for Retirement Research sponsors the annual Steven H. Sandell Grant Program for scholars in the field of retirement research and policy. The program is funded by the U.S. Social Security Administration to provide opportunities for scholars from all academic disciplines and senior scholars working in a new area to pursue cutting-edge projects on retirement income issues. The Environment of Elder Care Nursing Research Grant co-sponsored by Hill-Rom will advance the science of nursing through research focused on critical aspects of elder care including clear lungs, no falls, safe skin, patient comfort and ease-of-use. Applications from novice researchers who have received no other national research funds are encouraged. Preference will be given to Sigma Theta Tau International members, other qualifications being equal.

Through its Science of Hope and Optimism Funding Initiative program, the association will award two-year grants of up to $250,000 for research projects that use a variety of methods to explore the nature of hope and optimism. Priority will be given to projects in cognitive, developmental, personality, health, and social psychology, as well as sociology. Interdisciplinary teams that include members from cognate areas - e.g., cognitive science, anthropology, nursing, and biology - are encouraged.

Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.
