The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is pleased to offer a limited number of conference grants. These grants will be used to subsidize the cost of attendance for individuals to attend either CUR Dialogues 2015: Climbing the Ladder to Funding Success: Diverse Sources, Diverse Pathways or Undergraduate Research Programs: Building, Enhancing, Sustaining. Nominees are asked to provide contact and demographic information, a statement of expenses, a statement describing financial need, and a statement on expected outcomes from attending the conference. Historically under-represented groups and first-time attendees will be given priority. The review committee will work to ensure awardees represent a diverse subset of the applicants, specifically across discipline/CUR Division and geographic location. Awardees will receive the conference grant as a rebate after their confirmed participation in the conference, and the submission of reimbursement paperwork.

The Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR) is pleased to announce a travel award opportunity for neuroscience students to present their research on sex differences in the brain at a scientific conference in 2014. SWHR is accepting applications for travel awards sponsored by Donald G. and Darel Stein in memory of Anne Hammer. Awardees must provide evidence that the poster or oral presentation has been accepted for inclusion in the conference. Funds can be used to pay for expenses associated with attending a neuroscience-related conference, including an abstract submission fee, society membership and/or conference registration, and travel and/or lodging. The research presented must stem from a current project on sex differences in neuroscience.

Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students Judges' Travel Subsidy First-time ABRCMS judges (postdoctoral scientists and faculty members) available to judge all poster and oral sessions scheduled throughout the conference are eligible to apply for the Judges' Travel Subsidy. The subsidy provides up to $1,500 to cover registration, housing and travel.

Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students Student Travel Award Application Deadline:  Friday, September 6, 2013 The ABRCMS Student Travel Award provides undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students up to $1,500 to cover registration, housing and travel (airfare and ground transportation). Graduate students and postdoctoral scientists are not eligible to apply.

As an initiative of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Aspiring Physicians & Research Scientists Conference is a two-and-a-half day enhancement program that focuses on science innovation and world-class care. Cleveland Clinic physician and research scientist-led presentations and mentoring/coaching sessions provide students a unique opportunity to interface with our world renowned staff. An abstract poster competition provides students the opportunity to showcase their research. Our target audience includes underrepresented minority science, math and pre-med college students. It is designed to increase representation of American Indian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander physicians, research scientists, physician investigators and physician leaders. Applicants, who must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in college majoring in math, science, or pre-med will be notified of acceptance via email by April 19, 2013. Research students interested in participating in the poster research scholarship competition must submit an abstract of their work by April 12, 2013. Applicants accepted to present their posters will be notified by email by April 19, 2013.

Recipients of the award are inspired individuals with projects that show potential to generate new knowledge relating to causes, cure, or treatment of primary brain tumors/brain cancer. The annual award provides up to $600,000 in funding over a four-year period. Over that time, recipients also receive additional support from the foundation through its network of scientists in the field and an annual alumni conference.

This FOA encourages Research Conference Grant (R13) applications from institutions and organizations that propose to develop interdisciplinary research teams. Teams must include investigators from the social and/or behavioral sciences, and may include the life and/or physical sciences.  The goal is to broaden the scope of investigation into scientific problems, yield fresh and possibly unexpected insights, and increase the sophistication of theoretical, methodological, and analytical approaches by integrating the analytical strengths of two or more disparate scientific disciplines while addressing gaps in terminology, approach, and methodology.  This program will allow investigators from multiple disciplines to hold meetings in order to provide the foundation for developing interdisciplinary research projects.

The purpose of this Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative is to encourage applications that will develop and validate novel tools to facilitate the detailed analysis of complex circuits and provide insights into cellular interactions that underlie brain function. The new tools and technologies should confer a high degree of cell-type and/or circuit-level specificity. Validation of the utility of the tool/technology is an essential feature. A particular emphasis for this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is the development of new genetic and non-genetic tools for delivering genes, proteins and chemicals to cells of interest; new approaches are also expected to target specific cell types and or circuits in the nervous system with greater precision and sensitivity than currently established methods. Tools developed through this initiative that can be used in a number of species/model organisms rather than those restricted to a single species are highly desired. Applications that provide approaches that break through existing technical barriers to substantially improve current capabilities are also encouraged.

Selected finalists will receive international recognition and compete for grants totaling $150,000 to support the development and commercialization of important new products, technologies, or therapeutic concepts. As many as six finalists will be selected to present at the 2018 Epilepsy Pipeline Conference (San Francisco, February 22-23, 2018). Each presenter will have five minutes to present the concept, followed by five minutes of questioning. The event will feature live voting among audience members and a panel of judges (Sharks) representative of industry, advocacy, investors, and the research and medical communities. The winning project(s) deemed to be the most innovative will be announced at the conclusion of the competition. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate an ability to move the proposed plan to completion, showing how the prize can accelerate any step along the path to market. Inventors who submitted ideas in previous Shark Tank competitions are encouraged to re-submit their ideas if substantial progress has been made.

The Amyloidosis Foundation focuses on raising awareness in the medical field of amyloidosis, a group of diseases in which abnormal protein, known as amyloid fibrils, builds up in tissue; educating medical professionals through its Grand Rounds program and attendance at medical conferences; prioritizing a research agenda through grants and partnership with the Amyloidosis Research Consortium; and empowering patients through its comprehensive range of services, including accurate, up-to-date information.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to provide infrastructure support to advance development of operational definitions and approaches for the study of the concepts of cognitive reserve and resilience to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and age-related cognitive decline.
