Brain Tumor Funders' Collaborative Issues RFP for Neuro-Immune System Research | RFPs |... - 0 views

    The Brain Tumor Funders' Collaborative works to identify potential therapies for patients with primary human brain tumors, with the goal of increasing progression-free patient survival and improving quality of life for patients affected by a primary brain tumor. To that end, BTFC has issued a Request for Proposals for research on the role of the neuro-immune system in the origin and progression of immune responses in primary human brain tumors with the hope of developing immunotherapies for treatment of these tumors in patients. Priority will be given to studies on immune responses in primary brain tumors in pediatric and/or adult human patients. The program, which will provide grants of up to $250,000 per year over three years, will support a small number of multidisciplinary team-based projects. Teams should represent the requisite skills needed to carry out the proposed research, including clinical oncology, tumor biology, neuro-immunology, computational modelling, and data science. Other areas of immunotherapy research may also be entertained, including radiation-induced brain tumors in survivors of childhood cancers who received cranio-spinal radiation for their original cancer (leukemias or medulloblastoma).

Mary Louise Nickerson Fellowship in Neuro History - 0 views

    Established in 2011 by Granville H. Nickerson, M.D., C.M., in honour and in memory of his wife, Mary Louise, who was an inspiration to many of Dr. Nickerson's classmates of McGill's Medicine Class of 1945, an acknowledged scholar and an enthusiastic promoter of the Arts.  The Fellowship will allow a scholar to carry out research utilizing the Neuro History archival and artifact collections, the centre piece of which is the Penfield Archive in the Osler Library, and other resources available at the Osler Library, the Montreal Neurological Institute and the McGill University Archives.  The Osler Library's collections are listed in the McGill Library Catalogue and the Osler Library Archives Collection website.

Klarman Family Foundation Grants Program in Eating Disorders Research - 0 views

    The Klarman Family Foundation is interested in providing strategic investment in translational research that will accelerate progress in developing effective treatments for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. The Program's short-term goal is to support the most outstanding science and expand the pool of scientists whose research explores the basic biology of feeding, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and/or binge eating disorder. The long-term goal is to improve the lives of patients suffering from these conditions. Examples of funding areas include but are not limited to molecular genetic analysis of relevant neural circuit assembly and function; genetic and epigenetic research; animal models created by genetically altering neural circuits; and testing of new chemical entities that might be used in animal models as exploratory treatments.  Please note that imaging studies involving humans are not eligible. Investigators conducting research in the neuro-circuitry of fear conditioning or reward behavior may also apply but must justify the relevance of their research projects to the basic biology of eating disorders. Clinical psychotherapeutic studies, medication trials and research in the medical complications of these disorders are outside the scope of this Program.

ASA-Bugher Foundation Centers - 0 views

    The Henrietta B. and Frederick H. Bugher Foundation has joined with the American Stroke Association (ASA, a division of the American Heart Association) to support a network of three Centers of Excellence in Stroke Collaborative Research for a period of four years. The intent of this initiative is to support a collaboration of basic, clinical and population researchers from different specialties whose collective efforts will lead to new approaches, not only to improve the prevention of stroke, but to also expand upon the previous Bugher Stroke initiatives by inviting research on recovery after a stroke; including the areas of repair, regeneration, neuro-plasticity and rehabilitation.   Within the scope of stroke research, scientific disciplines may range from basic to clinical to population with bridges to translational research.  The application must contain at least two of these three disciplines.  Areas of recovery, secondary prevention, nursing, psychology, psychiatry and neuropsychology are strongly encouraged.    A focus has again been placed on fellowship training and cross-center collaboration for this new initiative.  Prospective applicants will be required to illustrate their capability to not only train fellows in stroke research, but also their commitment to collaborate with scientists outside their institution.

Drug Discovery Program | Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation - 0 views

    The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation has issued a Request for Proposals for its Preclinical Drug Discovery program. Through the program, grants of up to $600,000 over two years will be awarded to promising preclinical drug discovery programs relevant to Alzheimer's disease, related dementias, and cognitive aging. Preclinical research funding priorities include high throughput screening, medicinal chemistry hit-to-lead development and optimization, in vitro and in vivo efficacy studies, ADME, toxicology, pharma-cokinetics and pharma-co-dynamics, and in vivo proof-of-concept with lead compounds and biologics. Program areas of particular interest include new chemical compounds for Alzheimer's disease, preclinical proof-of-concept, and re-purposing. With regards to potential drug targets, ADDF is interested in novel targets that include but are not limited to neuro-inflammation, protein degradation/autophagy, growth factor signaling, synaptic function/morphology, calcium regulation, energy utilization/mitochondria function, insulin sensitivity, epigenetics, ApoE function and cholesterol metabolism, vascular injury and the blood-brain barrier interface, cognitive enhancers, myelin changes, ischemia and oxidative stress, and tau-related toxicities. To be eligible, applicants must be academic investigators seeking to create and support innovative translational programs in academic medical centers and universities; biotechnology companies with programs dedicated to Alzheimer's disease translational development; and new biotechnology company spinouts or existing biotechnology companies that demonstrate a clear need for nonprofit funding. Funding is provided through program-related investments (PRIs) that require a return on investment based on scientific and/or business milestones.
