UCLA Nursing Students Add iPods to Training -- Campus Technology - 4 views

  •
"The goal of providing the handheld device, the school said in a statement, was to improve the learning experience and give students flexible access to health care--related content. The combination media player-camera-video recorder-personal digital assistant with WiFi capabilities was loaded with mobile applications students will need in the classroom as well as an app to help them prepare for the nursing board examination."

College Open Textbooks - 2 views

  •
" Funded by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, College Open Textbooks is a collection of colleges, governmental agencies, education non-profits, and other education-related organizations that are focused on the mission of driving the awareness and advocacy for open textbooks. This includes providing training for instructors adopting open resources, peer reviews of open textbooks, and mentoring online professional networks that provide support to authors who open their resources. Through our community outreach, we have found that open textbooks should be: * easy to use, get and pass around, * editable so instructors can customize content, * cross-platform compatible, * printable, * and accessible so they work with adaptive technology. This is a fantastic resource that directly relates to the mission of http://www.inet-nurse.org. I feel confident in following the lead of the NLN in preparing technology savvy nurses and nurse educators. One idea was to establish a 'computer drivers license' - check on the site: http://www.icdlus.org/ Looking forward to implementing something like this.

This video is of Michael Wesch talking to the Library of Congress is a must see for educators. Whe you have 55 minutes, you should watch it. It's worth your time, I promise. Wesch also spoke at the CHAT festival in Chapel Hill earlier this year that Newman and I attended. He hit on some of the same points, but this talk below is quite extradordinary. It is an expansion of his short video by the same name.
