"How to draw the mind map: Write the topic in a circle in the centre of a piece of paper (landscape position). For each of the main points, draw arms out from the circle. Write the key words of the main point along each or at the end. Draw smaller arms out from the main arms and write the sub-points that relate to each main point. Continue with smaller arms if you have other points or examples for the sub-points."

Yes so many things keep us busy - planned and the unexpected. Moving house is up there with the stressful things to do Michelle! I just spent the weekend involved in our local show and moving a room and that was exhausting and still not finished.
Have you a location you can study, complete tasks and connect to class (e.g. work place or local library) during your move?

Harold - is there a way you can negotiate with your daughter as your diploma is as valuable as hers. (though she may not think so!) Perhaps quarantine some hours in a time slot when you are not too tired... or perhaps focus on printing off info so you can follow it up later off the internet.

Time Management - Highlights of discussion in the NEInursing Diigo Groups - 5 views

  • let everyone who is likely to "need" you at this time know you are NOT available
  • Having a timetable & displaying it to others will also let them know when you are not available
  • if someone wants to have a chat: stand up.
  • ...24 more annotations...
  • gave myself managable goals or tasks.
  • I gave up tv and face book (big distractions) when studying
  • Slow, steady & regular study will eventually help you reach your goal.
  • .im actually considering dropping a day at work so my work load (study) does'nt get on top of me
  • find that being in a seperate room to everyone else and a sign on the door that states" class in progress" works wonders for me.
  • do extra time on the Mon and Wed after class as its still fresh in my head and always do half a hour to a hour after tea.
  • I make sure that my four kids are sound asleep.
  • set aside atleast one hour per night to help me get into the routine of studying
  • I follow a schedule
  • I am lucky enough to have a study buddy. This has kept me honest with my time because I am helping her as much as she is helping me.
  • probably best to set aside time to study
  • i have a seperate room to go into & find my Study head lol
  • i leave my mobile phone in kitchen and try to limit distractions,
  • I have even been taking my books into work with me when i'm on night shift & try to get some done when its quiet & in between calls.
  • it looks like Im about to make some major changes to my life if i want to achieve my goal - course completion
  • I find having my own separate study area is very helpful. I only use it when im studying and not for anything else.
  • Have no distractions around me such as mobile phone and also use some ear plugs to stop any out side noise.
  • I surf for 1/2 each day and anything I find I add too favs immediately, then log on about an hour before class and read the stuff i've saved and complete some of the resourse books.
  • i spend at least 4 hrs when i can try to do it every day to catch up
  • having a diary helps me
  • Locking myself in the study and focusing on the assessment at hand,
  • i might make up a timetable, i start permanent rostered shifts soon so this will allow me to have some stability in my study hours and will help put myself in a routine!
  • i have found soft music helps me concentrate like nature sounds and mozart
  • i mange my day buy doing things in secshions

Hi Nursing Team - I have highlighted the great tips from the MW team using the highlight tool in Diigo. This will hopefully reduce your reading time - by just tuning into the highlighted sections. Some excellent and varied strategies for Time management - thanks everyone for sharing your ideas.

I have highlighted hints from the team - so you can hone into the strategies. I hope this helps. (A great feature of Diigo)

Hand sanitizer or sanitiser. Hand cleaner. - 2 views

PLEASE NOTE: I would like feedback from nursing teachers as to whether this is an approved product. Sharron shared this site in a discussion... Thanks Sharron! Is an Antibacterial, Alcohol-Free Instant Hand Sanitiser. It is a quick, efficient and easy way to sanitise your hands without the need for soap, water or towels. Simply apply one pump to your hands and rub together until dry (10 seconds). Once you use Hands First, you won't want to use anything else! Please comment below & you can see further info in an earlier discussion topic http://groups.diigo.com/group/nei_nursing/content/hand-washing-info-4466886

    Hi Michelle,
Hope you achieved something today with that time to yourself. Wondering if you and others are feeling overwhelmed?
A strategy could be to take it one bite or step at a time. Work out which one is due first and work on that one.
    How are others going? Viv

Great Michelle! Glad your day went so well.

Thinking we might look at some activities on Procrastination (how to avoid it) and invite our counsellors in to help us all as well.

Any other suggestions/requests ANYONE? for helping with completing assessment tasks? Robyn suggested we look at Mind mapping as a tool for researching, good for summarising and putting into your own words too.

Thanks Kylie for starting this "Topic" in our NEI Nursing group. I just checked out the link you posted (It came from Shawn's session on 'Getting started with your research'.

I found some of the words in the list difficult to understand... for example 4. Truncation...

So I did a Google search for 'truncation' and the 3rd in the list gave me this link which explained it beautifully for me - http://library-resources.cqu.edu.au/learning-objects/truncation.htm

So it seems it depends on the 'database' or search engine as to how you use these tools.

So why not look at Kylie's link in the first posting in this topic and then choose one in the list of 8 Search strategies, search for a clearer explanation of what it means and post a reply. Let's share our learning. :-)

Truncation - 1 views

  • Different databases use different truncation symbols so it is important to check the database 'Help' information or 'Search Tips' for details about which symbol to use.
  • Truncation enables different forms of a word to searched for simultaneously, and will increase the number of search results found
  •
Here is a definition of Truncation that makes sense to me... It is a tool we can use in search engines and databases to help us find information. Discovered I use truncation symbols! Did you realise you do to?
