This is an excellent list of technology tools all educators should know about especially if they plan to deliver courses online

via Edudemic Technology and education are pretty intertwined these days and nearly every teacher has a few favorite tech tools that make doing his or her job and connecting with students a little bit easier and more fun for all involved.

Relevant to this week's topic, this short article underlines the usefulness of Twitter in facilitating out-of-classroom interest.

Arizona State University (ASU) developed eAdvisor (an advising solution) based on developments in computer technology and data analytics. It provides students with course maps, which courses should be taken and in what sequence which helps keep of students success. It also shows career opportunities and has shown positive effect on student success.

I love this blog because they have a pretty quick (but helpful!) introduction to all the trendy tech tools with examples and explanations about how to use them in classrooms and they update their posts fairly open!

I saw a presentation from NEIU librarians who discussed an Edit-A-Thon they held. It can be a good way to each students about the way information is generated online, and also can be used to teach research practices (such as correct use of citations), among other things.

I have added a bookmark for an article about college readiness. This topic is particularly popular as of late, especially with Math and English.

This is an article about the growing role of smartphones and social media in education to support learning. Karen

This was an interesting list that suggested social media tools to use as alternatives to those that dominate social interaction on the web. The idea behind the suggestions are that for many students Facebook and Twitter exist within a personal social sphere, and that offering a separate space for academic interaction can help preserve the distinction between the two. Tom addressed the benefits of that approach and reasons why it may be worth pursuing in his post this week in the Technology Tools class.

This is a great reminder that tech tools need to be accessible to everyone. The bonus advantage to accessibility is that students with mobile devices have a better chance of taking part, now, too. -- Tom Educational innovations like the flipped classroom, clickers, and online discussions can present difficulties for students with disabilities. The issue was highlighted this month, when Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology were sued for allegedly failing to provide such students with closed captioning for online lectures and course

The best way to determine how to offer your distance learning course is to consider these items: What do you want your students to know? How do you teach this on campus? How comfortable are you with technology-and do you want to learn? Remember: More technology does not make better teaching or learning.
