NY Times Business Day Technology Blog - 1 views

  •
New York Times technology blogs are located here. The articles are very current. I (as a teacher) will probably benefit from these sites as much as my students. I plan on posting the YouTube "Blogs in Education" video along with these blogs, because the video gives a good description, application and history of blogs.

Aplia - 2 views

I am moving toward more tech and eventually considering textbook-free classes. Step one is trying a semester with Aplia, a text-linked software program that will allow me to entirely design the course using the online version of the text I selected for my students, complete with a grade book and assignment records for each student. I am excited to start using such a technology-intensive approach for my classes.

Gamifying abstract subjects | From theory to practice with Kahoot! - 4 views

My students actually love this. One of the assignments they have in my composition class is to "teach" a grammar topic they have been assigned. They are required to make a presentation and an assessment. Many of them choose to do Kahoot!

5 Ways to Use Snapchat as A Teaching and Learning Tool in Higher Education - 2 views

  •
I never thought Snapchat would work in a classroom setting. I think it's time for me to stop being too old school and meet my students in the middle and allow them to enjoy my messages in whatever reasonable way that is necessary.
  •
This helps. It gives a good path to how to use this teaching and learning tool.

Otter - Audio and Video Transcription - 2 views

  •
Otter processes your audio or video files - in real time or after they are created - and generates a text file with a transcript. It automatically recognizes and designates different speakers, and allows you to give them names before downloading the text file. The fee tier gives 600 minutes of transcription per month. I am uploading my lecture videos after they are generated, and posting the transcriptions in my LMS for students.

This a great (free) Pharmacology Open Education Resource (OER) for any nursing faculty. I have utilized this in my classes and my students have reported positive feedback on this resource. The e-book also has interactive case studies that I have implemented too. The same company is developing a Fundamentals nursing book (OER) that is set to launch later this summer.

What a great video! Actually, my class on Film Appreciation may benefit from this type of interaction, considering that I cannot have all of my 35 plus students talk all the time. Thank you Heather!

I'm glad you like it - I was fascinated too, Jim. I really expected to not love Twitter in the classroom, but I've been rethinking it since I saw this.

@hnoore681 Thanks for sharing! Just wanted to keep in mind of those who don't have an account, and those who don't want to have one. That's when UDL comes into play. I am also exploring https://grouptweet.com/blog/step-by-step-guide-to-managing-a-classroom-twitter-account-with-grouptweet.

@chreych I am always curious about this. Since twitter is free, if they do not have an account - can't we ask them to create one for use in the classroom?

FlipGrid for Psychomotor Assessments - 1 views

shared by ritz45991 on 11 Jun 20 - No Cached
  •
My children's teachers were using FlipGrid for fun activities in their classroom so I decided to modify and use it in my classroom! We are now performing our skill checks on FlipGrid and the students are loving it! They also have to review two or three of their classmates each week and their responses are videos as well with corrective techniques. When we return to on campus classes, we will continue to use this as an additional psychomotor assessment!
