Really has some nice information on tools available for online teaching.

Hi Kathy, good solid article and my favorite part related to one of the pod casts that we were assigned for Module 4 this week in our TT class. DeMarias says that the synchronous on line class should not be a literal translation of the f2f and she suggests the same concept as this article: a reconceptualization of the course all together. My least favorite part of the article was that we are developing "digital citizens of tomorrow". I totally agree but the sound of it is so robotic. :)

Recognizing the grave consequences for individual opportunity and more generally for our economy and society, the Carnegie Statway ™and Quantway ™Networked Improvement Communities have embraced an audacious goal-to increase from 5 percent to 50 percent the percentage of students who achieve college math credit within one year of continuous enrollment. As a result of the Carnegie Advancement for Teaching (CAT) work, my college will undergo a pilot program for Fall 2012 where I will be the instructor to achieve college math credit within one year on continuous enrollment. The Pathways Blog provides information about Carnegie's work to create pathways for student success in developmental education in community colleges and makes connections between Carnegie's work and that of others concerned with student struggle. Even though I follow the pathways blog, there are several more blogs from the foundation and are listed blow:

Not only has the class been very helpful, but the ION Web page gives me much information on sample rubrics, and many other ideas on instructional strategies as I continue to enhance my teaching abilities in my online classes.

One of my favorite website ideas. It's a little too neo-luddite for me in it's marketing, but I applaud the struggle to give power back to the people (even if they can't put the toothpaste back in the tube).

Ten Steps to Using Twitter in the College Classroom | Jason A. Llorenz - 2 views

Posted: Like all college and university faculty, August means finalizing fall syllabi and lesson plans, and pre-reading articles for fall courses. For many professors, this process includes thinking (or rethinking) on how to leverage social media to engage students in the semester's learning.

Having experimented with social media for learning -- especially Twitter -- across my courses, I am convinced that social media offers powerful opportunities to connect with students, by providing new ways for them to own the learning....

Can we use Twitter for educational activities? - 0 views

There is a nice section listing some positive and negative aspects of Twitter that some may find useful along with some ideas of ways to incorporate it into educational settings.

I referenced this article in my Discussion post, but it's such a good one that I wanted it to be available here as well.

This one doesn't have anything to do with class, but if you are introducing your class to technology it is a great place to start. My granddaughter's junior high tech class uses it. I was introduced to it when one of our faculty used it to make me a graduation gift. He put my thesis into the web site, printed it out and framed it. I loved the gift.

Jing - Free Video Software - 2 views

  •
Simple and free, Jing is the perfect way to enhance your fast-paced online conversations.
  •
I tried Jing only a couple of weeks back and I have already made over 40 videos for use in my classes.
  •
I was referred to this product by a colleague and it is really easy to use. I use it to record video solutions for my math review. Jing also works with Camtasia, which allows you to edit your Jing videos, as well as convert them into other media types such as mp4.

Collaborate in real time with Pirate Pad - 0 views

I've been looking for ways that my Writing Center can offer synchronous online tutoring. Etherpad is a free, open source tool that I looked at, and Pirate Pad is one free site that uses it. It's neat and easy to use. Open a Pirate Pad, give the person a link, and you're off!
