It took me about an hour to find this podcast. I wanted a podcast that addressed topics that are could be understood by a student in a college level math class. These short podcast give a step by step solution for various algebra problems and could be used as a supplemental way of explaining a particular problem. I would use these podcast if there were a few more examples for each topic. For instance, I would like at least 3 podcast for the common denominator problem. I would probably use the podcast as a section review or with a worksheet that had similar examples.

The Inside-Out Classroom: A Win-Win-Win Strategy for Teaching with Technology - 1 views

  •
This abstract written by an engineering professor at Cal Poly Engineering offers research and support for a new trend in education called, "the Inside-Out Classroom." The abstract describes how the inside out classroom is a win-win-win strategy for teaching with technology. Instructors create "chunks" of core content in a digital, lecture-capture format. These resources are then stored online for students. These are short videos that students watch before attending class sessions. Students study core content for a course online on their own, and then complete assignments during in-class sessions.

Twitter for Academia - 2 views

For those who may be a bit unclear on how to use Twitter for a class, the article includes varied strategies. Some of the ideas have already been mentioned in our discussions and responses as we worked through the second module, but there are a few other points that may be noteworthy. Second, the article affirms some of the ideas already shared, especially for those of us who were initially unfamiliar with twitter's potential application.

I'm still not convinced I want to use Twitter in my classes, but this gives a lot of good information.
  •
I must admit that when I first heard about Twitter I thought it represented the apex of what concerns me about internet technology: solipsism and sound-bite communication. While I obviously spend a great deal of time online and thinking about the potential of these new networked digital communication structures, I also worry about the way .....

Favorite Tools for Online Learning - 2 views

Really has some nice information on tools available for online teaching.

Hi Kathy, good solid article and my favorite part related to one of the pod casts that we were assigned for Module 4 this week in our TT class. DeMarias says that the synchronous on line class should not be a literal translation of the f2f and she suggests the same concept as this article: a reconceptualization of the course all together. My least favorite part of the article was that we are developing "digital citizens of tomorrow". I totally agree but the sound of it is so robotic. :)

Key elements of building online community: Comparing faculty and student perceptions - 0 views

Vesely, P., Bloom, L., & Sherlock, J. (2007). Key elements of building online community: Comparing faculty and student perceptions. MERLOT Journal of Online Learning and Teaching, 3(3), 234-246. Vesely, Bloom, and Sherlock (2007) document that essential to the learning process is the student/student and student/teacher interaction, and building this community of learners is more challenging in online. Students in blended courses felt interaction may be better than in traditional courses. Students who feel silenced in onsite class discussions are more apt to contribute online. Seeking help can be a determining factor in successful learning. In the online communities, help is available virtually around the clock from the instructors and fellow classmates. Furthermore, through their experiences in the blended course, students would better understand the significance of managing their time, cultivating their study environment, regulating their effort, seeking appropriate support, and learning from classmates. In my experience, students reported that their online interaction with classmates had greatly assisted in their comprehension of course materials. Central to how they felt about blended learning was the quality and quantity of student and faculty interaction. In blended courses, students are often required to engage actively by reading and responding to discussion forum postings that become a permanent record of their participation and learning, rather than passively attending classes. Perceptions of interaction from faculty are also positive for blended courses. Faculty renovate their teaching methods by placing onsite lectures online and adding supplementary activities to aid student learning. Blended teaching and learning transforms education from "a command and control structure to a connect and collaborate environment" (Moskal, Dziuban, Upchurch, Hartman, & Truman, 2006) which is more student-centered than faculty-controlled. For faculty, the quality
