Top Tech Tools for Formative Assessment - 0 views

  •
This website has a great list of top tech tools for formative assessments. Although they are primarily for k-12 teachers, there are many ways to incorporate into a post secondary course such as increase the complexity of questions or have the students write their own assessments. Most of these are free and and are easy to use and teach. Teachers can use these tech tools for easy and interactive formative assessments.College instructors can use these tools to measure the students' understanding of the material and assess if review or re-teaching is necessary. Small assignments can be indicators for instructors and assist in "taking the pulse" of the class.

Archived: PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT - 0 views

  •
Performance assessment, also known as alternative or authentic assessment, is a form of testing that requires students to perform a task rather than select an answer from a ready-made list. For example, a student may be asked to explain historical events, generate scientific hypotheses, solve math problems, converse in a foreign language, or conduct research on an assigned topic. Experienced raters--either teachers or other trained staff--then judge the quality of the student's work based on an agreed-upon set of criteria. This new form of assessment is most widely used to directly assess writing ability based on text produced by students under test instructions

EDpuzzle - 0 views

  •
Edpuzzle is a Web-based application that allows instructors (and students) to upload videos or use pre-existing streaming videos from YouTube or Vimeo and overlay test/assessment items to create a more interactive lesson. Instructors can stop videos at anytime and present assessment items to check for understanding. Videos become lessons and engaging presentations. Great for flipped classrooms...............and it's free!

Multiple Intelligences -- Assessment - 1 views

  •
Actually, no one uses just one type of intelligence; we all use several in our daily lives. Some are stronger than others for each person. Thus it's helpful to determine your learner's top intelligences and tailor your methods to best meet your learner's particular combination of strengths.

Educational Leadership:Feedback for Learning:Seven Keys to Effective Feedback - 0 views

  • feedback is information about how we are doing in our efforts to reach a goal

Good or bad, some kind of information related to student effort needs to be relayed.
  • What specifically should I do more or less of next time, based on this information?
    • Denise Caparula

Keep this question in mind when providing student feedback.
  • the sooner I get feedback, the better

Waiting until the last week of class to provide any kind of feedback has no point.

  • What makes any assessment in education formative is not merely that it precedes summative assessments, but that the performer has opportunities, if results are less than optimal, to reshape the performance to better achieve the goal. In summative assessment, the feedback comes too late; the performance is over.
  • Although the universal teacher lament that there's no time for such feedback is understandable, remember that "no time to give and use feedback" actually means "no time to cause learning." As we have seen, research shows that less teaching plus more feedback is the key to achieving greater learning. And there are numerous ways—through technology, peers, and other teachers—that students can get the feedback they need.

Classroom Assessment Techniques - 1 views

  •
Classroom assessment is both a teaching approach and a set of techniques. The approach is that the more you know about what and how students are learning, the better you can plan learning activities to structure your teaching. The techniques are mostly simple, non-graded, anonymous, in-class activities that give both you and your students useful feedback on the teaching-learning process.

Assessing Faculty's Technology Needs (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | EDUCAUSE - 0 views

  •
Teaching students in the 21st century has new implications for today's classroom at all educational levels. Accompanying these implications are expectations that faculty must engage students through instructional strategies and activities of value to students. Twenty-first century learners live in an age of new technologies and information sharing. Cell phones, laptops, handheld PCs, electronic devices, and social online communities are a few examples of students' constant immersion in technology (see Figure 1). The exception to this constant exposure can be found in the classroom. One might reasonably ask, "How are faculty integrating technology into the curriculum to enhance learning?"

This article provides a good global study of faculty, and addresses the needs, technology needs in particular, that are essential to faculty effectiveness as we transition to the 21st century classroom.

FlipGrid for Psychomotor Assessments - 1 views

My children's teachers were using FlipGrid for fun activities in their classroom so I decided to modify and use it in my classroom! We are now performing our skill checks on FlipGrid and the students are loving it! They also have to review two or three of their classmates each week and their responses are videos as well with corrective techniques. When we return to on campus classes, we will continue to use this as an additional psychomotor assessment!
