ACDA website with links to choral journals, library archives, festival information and more.

This is the official ACDA website. You can find information about conferences, as well as access resources and connect with colleagues. If you teach choir, being a member of ACDA is a must.

The purpose of this resource is wide and varied. Not only does this resource provide choral music educators with a professional development community but also looks at a range of topic regarding singing both in the individual and choral setting. Membership in this organization does cost a fee but there are many benefits for music educators who teach choir.

Voice instructors, especially those just starting out, tend to have trouble finding places to take their students to showcase their talents. NATS is an organization designed specifically for that purpose. It provides information for their events, the opportunity to find vocal coaches, and vocal literature that would enhance any instructor's library.

An all-encompassing website for choral directors in the United States. Provides information regarding competitions, professional development, instruction and many other areas. Journals inform teachers of latest news in the field of vocal teaching.

The purpose of the resource is to provide singing teachers multiple resources and professional development. NATS is an organization geared towards private lesson and studio teachers who work in a variety of settings and teach a variety fo students. Membership is costly but resource include access to journals and ability to register students for scholarship competitions.

This website contains PDFs of music that is available for free to download in the United States. The music is public domain or available via a Creative Commons license. There is also an option to purchase some music. While bandmusicpdf.org is strictly for wind band music, IMSLP contains music for band and orchestra, as well as vocal and other instrumental works. This is very helpful with finding older music or replacing parts, especially with music that is out of print.

The International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) is a great site to find timeless works of instrumental and vocal music. The site is free to use, but membership is available. The public domain site is easy to navigate and provides scores and recordings out thousands of composers and their music. Make sure not to click on advertisements and download something on accident in the free version. This site is a great resource for educators to find musical works from great composers that are no longer in print, and they is free.

IMSLP is a website where anyone can search music that is no longer under copyright law. Here you can find music from a symphony score to a Beethoven piano piece. This resource can be used by growing student-run ensembles that wish to perform classical music. I use this website when I want to practice bassoon repertoire or when I need to find another piece to practice on piano. This is also a great resource to show students how to properly find music with educated keyword searches through a public domain.

This site provides teachers and students with a rich history of jazz music. Teachers and students can find videos of jazz musicians, repertoire and resources for Jazz Appreciation Month and tips and tricks for teaching jazz concepts such as swing and improvisation.

Smithzonian Jazz has a vast resource of archives, recordings, timelines, lesson plans, and interactive resources support Jazz Education and Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM).

Smithsonian Jazz is a website fro music educators. It covers every facet of jazz. It has links to concerts and Jazz collections and archives. This includes links to articles, sheet music etc. This website also has a link to lessons surrounding great artists such as Ellington, Ella, Louis Armstrong, Benny Carter and many more. Jazz Appreciation Month is covered as well as all Masterworks in the Jazz Genre.

There are students who love music, but they do not want to sing or play an instrument. Music technology classes allow these students the opportunity to be creative while participating in their love for music. This blog discusses the importance of music technology classes and how fostering this skill can lead to a career in the ever growing music industry.

This site provides several useful resources for educators. It is an authentic assessment toolbox filled with tips to help teachers create rubrics, include standards in their assignments, and examples of assessments to use.

The Smithsonian Jazz website offers an education page that features information about jazz and jazz musicians, free streaming recordings, and guided listening activities. Some categories also offer parent guides, lesson plans, and education kits. The website suggests that the appropriate age range is 8-15 years.

The Smithsonian Jazz Education page is a resource provided to showcase jazz and it's history. They have many lesson plans with recordings and activities to do with your class.

The College Band Directors National Association is a very reputable source of information about everything music education, especially in terms of band. Through publication of their journal and social media accounts, there is a constant source of information about teaching resources for the band music classroom, and they have an entire committee dedicated to technology in music education.

NAfME Music in a Minuet is a music blog. It includes articles and interviews to support music educators.

This site contains information for parents who have children in a music program. Educators can point parents to this site to see what parents are doing in their local communities to support their children in music. Additionally, links are provided to resources/tools for students in their practice in aiding parents in encouraging their students to practice efficiently.

The NAfME My Classroom website is an excellent resource for music educators. It provides links to journals, advocacy resources, professional development, and standards-based lesson plans. The lessons plan page offers both plans submitted by other educators and strategies for meeting the arts standards. By using the search tool, teachers can find lessons pertaining to a wide range of music content and age groups.

The Music Educators Toolbox was created by music teachers and musicians through Carnegie Hall. It has lesson plans, videos, activities, and other resources that are categorized by grade level and also by concept. You can view the lesson plans and also watch videos of the lessons being taught. This is a great resource for lesson plans that meet the national standards.

While primarily geared towards elementary level students, some of the activities found on this website would also be helpful for beginning band classes. These can be used during those first couple of weeks when students are still trying to decide what to play and how they are going to acquire an instrument. Any of the activities can be adjusted to the experience level of your students.

Musical Content: The Choral Public Domain Library contains digital downloads (sheet music, midi files, and notation files) for choral works that are in the public domain. There is a large selection, and CPDL offers useful search features such as listing all musical settings of a text, searching by language, type of piece, and by musical era. Other information: This is a good resource for directors who do not have large music budgets, are looking to find different settings of specific texts, or are looking for music from a specific time period.

This website focuses on jazz history and music. Activities are designed for ages 8-13 or 12-15. Each famous jazz musician or historical page includes the story behind the composition, recordings, and suggested activities that engage students in the listening selection.
