This site serves as a practice tool for students of music theory, ear training, or general music. The site includes recordings for use in interval identification, rhythmic dictation, chord identification, and a variety of other ear training concepts. This would be an excellent resource for teachers who wish to provide their students with practical experience in ear training via technology. Students could practice at home or in a computer lab. 

This is an excellent resource. I studied my music theory classes with Rodriguez-Alvira, the author of this program. Wonderful resource and music theory professor.

This site contains helpful teaching tips and strategies for low brass. The tips were authored by Richard Murrow who is the principal tubist with the East Texas Symphony. The purpose of the resource is to provide a step by step process for teaching embouchure and the first tones for low brass beginners. Other tips are offered as well such as posture, how to hold the instrument, and tips about responsible teaching. The site does not contain musical content, but rather provides information that will prepare students to begin studying musical exercises.

Tim Price provides free lessons on jazz improvisation, theory, and technique.  These lessons can translate to any instrument and provides a variety of topics for the beginning and advanced jazz player to digest.  The music can be opened in pdf form and printed for personal use.  I have used these exercises when teaching jazz theory and technique and is a great resource for jazz students

It includes information about viola basics, such as how to set up the viola and start playing the viola, viola fingering charts, viola care, viola practice tips, how to read music, and much more. It also has free sheet music for the viola and exercises specifically for the viola. Finally, it offers a string class that discusses string music throughout history. It is a similar structure to Violin Online, with slight variations in what is offered for the instrument.

Musictheory.net is an all encompassing music theory website. It includes lesson plans and on-line, interactive exercises that solidify and enhance those lesson plans. This website also includes great theoretical tools. These tools include interval calculators, analysis, chord and scale calculators and even a 12 tone row matrix. It also has utilities such as an pop-up piano and metronome.

A great website for step-by-step theory instruction, exercises, and quizzes. This website would be great to offering out-of-class instruction or assistance to students who may need extra help. The instruction is organized by concepts (ex. key signatures, chords, etc) and gives helpful tips and tricks to understand the concept being taught.

The 4-Beat Rhythm Cards found on this site has been an excellent tool for me over the past three years. I have used the full-page sized flash cards as rhythm exercises for both bands and choirs, and they are really effective for immediate use in the classroom. Not only are rhythm charts found on this website, but a host of music theory resources are also available.

This website offers many free choral pieces that can be used in the classroom. It assists in a budget-friendly way for performance classrooms to still have repertoire available.

Being a first-year teacher is, as I'm sure we all know, daunting and overwhelming, especially for those of us who seek to be the best that we can be for our students. Nonetheless, educator Jim Matthews provides his audience with a concise list of eight habits exhibited by several highly effective band directors, which includes but is not limited to having ensembles play long tones, engage in breathing exercises, and participate in warm-up routines that are both effective and efficient. By adopting each of these eight habits, Matthews is certain that every year of teaching will be nothing short of productive and rewarding.

This resource has a simple layout and allows its users to train their aural skills on anything from intervals and chords to harmonic progressions. Teachers who are just beginning to introduce this skill to their students can also find use in the beginner level training exercises. Good-Ear is free and can easily be used by not only teachers, but also students who have access to an electronic device and internet source.

This is great tool to develop an ear for music. It has all of the qualities and the features to be able to help the student become a stronger performer. Being able to hear is very important when it comes to music. What I love mostly about this training tool, it strengthens your ability to enhance perfect pitch.
